How do you cope with the racism directed towards you? Numerous examples on this thread already!

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 10/07/2018 15:43

Dogs need more than to live in a box and have a few scraps every now and then! What an existence.

zampa
im used of it - people dont like that people can live totally differant to them and thats how some react i suppose? ive learned to just ignore it? hence why we dont like our children mixing out - a few people i know non travellers were told as children to keep away from us and to be scared of us

Disgusting racist post, WaitrosePigeon

Racecardriver · 10/07/2018 15:46

So I am the first to admit that I am completely ignorant of the whole traveler conmunuty/culture. No equivalent where I come from. I'm mostly curious about the way you live though. You mentioned that you live on a private site-private campsite? So do you live in a caravan? Doesn't that drive you insane? Or are you just used to it? Do you go to the same places when you travel or always somewhere new?

lastnamefirstfirstnamelast · 10/07/2018 15:48

a traveller threatend my partner the other day simply because my partner could quote him the cost to repair the bodywork on his car without seeing it first as it could be in any state, the guy threatend to come down and beat him u unless he gave him a quote over the phone! absolutely awful! I've been so worried abut him being in the business on his own!

i can only speak for my self i am very strict on my children - they arent cheeky, are in strong routine - food 5 bath 6 bed watching film after and then food before a sleep at 9 arnt aloud to mess to much when we go out are generally good children with their odd days. like i said how can you tar us with all the same brush its like me saying why are all your children so bad - drinking on the streets atanding outside shops abusing people who walk past sitting in parks speaking aload of filth?
i dont steal im a christian
and i pay my electric on a meter pay for gas bottles pay my council tax and my tv liscence dont pay water because im on a private site

racecardriver i like in a caravan (some sites are council owned and some a travelling man buys land gets planning permission and builds a site to rent out) usually we pull to the same places every year

Obviously there's lots of racism against travellers among the settled community, but is there a lot of racism in the traveller community against the settled community too? What do you think is the best way to get people to realise deep down we're all human beings?

QueenAravisOfArchenland · 10/07/2018 16:02

What do you do for toilets, if you don't use the toilets in your trailer?

YouKnowWhatIMean · 10/07/2018 16:03

Do you really get married at 16?

ChipsAndKetchup · 10/07/2018 16:04

Where do you go to the toilet then?! The travellers near us are in a rural field. Then when they leave they just empty it out.

TakeABreak2 · 10/07/2018 16:04

dieantword
there probably is a bit of racism from travellers (not saying me or my family)

OP posts:
MyNameDefinatelyIsntJanet · 10/07/2018 16:05

How old were you when you married?

Do you allow your kids to access social media? If you do, how do you prevent them mixing with gorgers?

You say you don't teach your girls about sex and relationships, how do you feel about grabbing and the risk of young women ending up in abusive relationships?

How do you earn money?

Myotherusernameisbest · 10/07/2018 16:05

We camped near a large group of irish travellers a few years ago in a proper campsite and I hadn't ever heard much about travellers to be honest. However the little girls were dressed like teenagers attending a nightclub and threatened to smack my 7 year old dd's fucking face in if she didnt get off the fucking seasaw as soon as they arrived. The men smashed glasses and bottles in the play area after getting drunk and fighting and 11 year old lads were roaring around the campsite in their parents cars at 8 o'clock at night. So it wasn't a pleasent experience. Why are travellers like this? Was it so everyone else left the campsite?
