Just getting into the spirit of things.

I am a boring middle aged woman too.

How do you avoid being openly cynical and eye roll-y at the bright young things who join your work knowing EVERYTHING ? (Note, not cynical about the work itself, yet....)

Does your PMT last all bloody month?

Do you ever feel invisible?

CLR1 · 04/07/2018 19:14

Whats the most rebellious thing you done when you were younger?

Flippetydip · 04/07/2018 19:44

Ancient I haven't in the past, but now I will.

old sod avoiding being openly cynical - I embrace being openly cynical.

No, my PMT lasts about 4 days, I am exceptionally lucky.

No, I never feel invisible, which makes me think perhaps I'm rather arrogant.

CLR I was THE most boring teenager and young adult ever on the planet, I never did anything remotely rebellious. The most off-the-normal track thing I ever did was go and live in a small African village for a year.

Do you think of yourself as middle class? Do you have any friends or colleagues from a different social class?

Are your boobs saggier now at 45 than they were at 35? Asking for a friend Grin

Flippetydip · 04/07/2018 19:51

Yes I think of myself as first generation middle class.

I have colleagues and acquaintances from a different social class but no, if I'm honest I would consider all my friends middle class too.

My boobs were enormous at 35 as I was pregnant and then breastfeeding. They are looking pretty good now to be fair. I am in better physical shape at 45 than I was at 35 (regardless of pregnancy).

(I wasn't really expecting people to ask questions on this, I was just taking the piss out of all the AMA threads but I've quite enjoyed it - it's been therapeutic!)

What do you look forward to (in a good sense)?
What do you dread?

Flippetydip · 04/07/2018 20:06

I look forward to my choir practice in the week (you see, I told you I was boring) and I look forward to the weekends and I look forward to holidays.

I dread my kids becoming teenagers.

OP posts:
Xenia · 04/07/2018 21:03

I think it's just as interesting asking questions about someone who thinks they are boring as someone who says they are the wife of a gangster actually.

So why do you dread the children being teenagers? I have 2 teenagers and had others and I like it.

Choir is never boring. I sing every day.

Flippetydip · 05/07/2018 06:35

Xenia

Thanks for being positive about the teenage years. I guess because we are in the glory years at the moment of 8 and 10 years old and I'm enjoying it so much and I know they won't be like this forever. I've actually worked a good bit with teenagers in a voluntary role and really enjoyed it but I suppose I worry with my own it will be all conflict and no joy. I'm probably being overly dramatic.

I think your feet may benefit from wearing sandals. Air those toes.

Howmanysleepstilchristmas · 05/07/2018 07:06

Am I middle aged too? When does it start?

FrankUnderwoodsWife · 05/07/2018 07:12

Do you think it’s ok to flip the bird at your children?

Do you still love your husband?

Have you let yourself go, like I have?

FrankUnderwoodsWife · 05/07/2018 07:14

Xenia, I just want to say, I love your positivity. Especially as we are all Middle aged women and the whole world basically ignores us

Allycumpooster · 05/07/2018 07:26

I am also a middle aged, middle class woman and I am loving this thread!
I don’t really consider my life boring but I suppose I would have thought myself boring if I met myself when I was twenty something iykwim.

My question is - if you could change one thing, big or small about your life what would it be?

AtiaoftheJulii · 05/07/2018 07:26

How's your pelvic floor?

Do you dye your hair?

(Teenagers are brilliant btw!)

Flippetydip · 05/07/2018 07:43

vita - the world is so not ready for my toes.

Am I middle aged too? When does it start? No idea - I'm assuming middle age is halfway through one's life - I'm being generous and assuming I hit about 90

Do you think it’s ok to flip the bird at your children? Not to their face, but definitely behind their back.

Do you still love your husband? Yes, I'm very lucky, he's pretty amazing and very long suffering (and also as boring as I am in his own way)

Have you let yourself go, like I have? No, but there wasn't much to keep hold of in the first place to be honest. I'm fitter and thinner than I was in my 20s though if that's what you mean. My hair looks better although is a lot greyer but has a better style.

My question is - if you could change one thing, big or small about your life what would it be? I often think about this and actually I'm amazingly fortunate that there's not a lot I would change. I've done a lot in my life that I wanted to do, I wasn't planning on children but they've turned out to be quite fun, I guess the only thing I should have done, which I toyed with, was live in Paris for a while in my youth. I'd be a more committed Christian if I really wanted to change something - I'm very wishy washy a lot of the time, which is the worst sort to be.

How's your pelvic floor? Shot to buggery - I run, and therefore keep Tena in business

Do you dye your hair? No, apparently I am allergic to every form of hair dye and therefore am pretty grey. To counteract though I've had it cut very short.

the world is so not ready for my toes. I can sympathise with that I have bunions but strategically placed straps are the way to go. Sorry to go on about the fungal but do you air them at home at least. I'm trying to help you here Grin

You've not lost your sense of humour I can see that OP. I don't think you're boring either.

Just an idea:

FrankUnderwoodsWife · 05/07/2018 08:23

I only ever flip the bird behind her back, and I’m pretty sure she’s done it to me too Grin

Vitalogy · 05/07/2018 08:32

£14!! Not to turn this into a sandal thread or anything Blush

FartAtTheMaddingCrowd · 05/07/2018 08:35

Do you ever wear beige?

What's your favourite song?
A) To sing
B) To listen to

Agree with PP you're not boring if you sing in a choir.

FrankUnderwoodsWife · 05/07/2018 08:37

Vita - you have confirmed our status as boring middle aged women with that offering. 1/2 of us are still trying to be kool kids (and failing)

Vitalogy · 05/07/2018 08:46

Grin Err, excuse me, they're from New Look, that's down with the kids isn't it Confused Grin

AlwaysTheEnd · 05/07/2018 08:53

You sound like good fun OP Smile

You hair sounds nice and not boring and running and being in a choir aren't boring.

BTW I love teens. They are brilliant fun. Lots of teens of lovely, you only ever hear about the tricky ones on Mumsnet but they aren't all like that.

6 cats is a lot. Are you planning on being a mad cat lady later on in life.

WhyDidIEatThat · 05/07/2018 09:05

How do you know when to finish masturbating or doing the sexuals if you’ve never orgasmed?

Flippetydip · 05/07/2018 10:00

I don't really think I'm boring - it was just a stupid thread in response to "I'm a brain surgeon, ask me anything" "I'm an astronaut ask me anything" "I'm a former prostitute ask me anything" "I'm the Queen AMA" etc etc. But thank you SO much for saying I sound fun - that's made me smile :)

I don't like either of those sandals I'm afraid - I'm more your trainer/walking sandal type of girl middle aged woman

Do you ever wear beige - it's practically a staple

What's your favourite song - to listen to - I don't really listen to music, I never have it on in the background, but if I had to chose one I'd go with Kitty Jay by Seth Lakeman

What's your favourite song - to sing - I sing tenor - I'm naturally an alto but our choir was so short on tenors that I now sit with the old men and sing in my boots - my favourite song at the moment is Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen or You Raise me Up or Fields of Gold (Sting) - so many to choose from :)
