Just getting into the spirit of things.

*Elinor^ that sounds amazing! I had a similar experience giving birth to my second child, funnily enough she's not interested in religion at all so it obviously didn't rub off on her!

Flippetydip · 05/07/2018 16:55

They sound amazing experiences - I'm still waiting for my major spiritual enlightenment!

Oh no I've got three of the Next dresses... you can go down a size in them so that's something and I think I look good in mine too but have to wear leggings to cover my knobbly knees.

PearlyG8 · 05/07/2018 17:26

When did you jojn your choir?
What voice do you sing?

Do you have a favourite hymn/madrigal/choral work if any kind?

PearlyG8 · 05/07/2018 17:28

Oh, just spotted answers to my as. Grin

Fflamingo · 05/07/2018 17:38

Are you north south east or west in the country and by north I don’t mean humberside, more Aberdeen.

Flippetydip · 05/07/2018 17:38

Pearly - You've seen the answers - tenor rather randomly, although more through necessity than comfort - I have a very tired voice at the end of the evening and have lost any top notes that I ever had! I joined my choir about 3 years ago and I LOVE it - it makes my week.

I'm intrigued by these next dresses now - beginning to think I need one - can someone link for me please?!

I'm West in the country.

I'm loving vitalogy's determination to get you some sandals Grin, and only 'middle aged' women can swap conversations so easily between fungal infected toes and orgasms. Brilliant.

This is the only AMA thread I have enjoyed and I only clicked on it as I thought it was a joke. Thank you Flippety

Flippetydip · 05/07/2018 18:13

It was meant as a joke crumble - I didn't actually expect it to take off but I'm so glad you've enjoyed it - I have too :) And yes I love the mix of conversation, it's great.

You obviously should have put a smiley face in you OP Grin
Anyway, it's good to hear that life has turned out so lovely for you. My life is also lovely and I know how lucky we are because of that. Middle age has it bonuses.

FartAtTheMaddingCrowd · 05/07/2018 21:16

I've never done a link thing on MN before but here goes

Next v neck dresses.

Flippetydip · 05/07/2018 23:02

crumble so glad you're happy with life, middle age certainly does have it's advantages.

Fart congrats on your first link - it worked. I feel I may look as if I were wearing a brightly coloured sack in one of those. But if it's a middle-aged must, maybe I should just suck it up and get one!

Flippity, slightly past middle aged Yank mum here!

Brilliant thread, well done sister. My kids are 16 and 18 now and it's been remarkable peaceful and drama free. Don't dread yours becoming teenagers. It's amazing to watch them turn into adults.

I did have a bit of a cry the other day when I thought about taking my oldest to uni this fall...

ThePlatypusAlwaysTriumphs · 06/07/2018 00:26

From one middle aged woman to another: what do you look forward to?

This is my issue at the moment. I feel like all the "good" surprises ( meeting someone, having kids, amazing new job) are behind me. I worry about the " bad" surprises now Sad. In 10-15 years time ( teenage kids, alternately nice/ nightmare!) I look forward to retirement, travelling, being a grandparent, but worry about getting there and finding health issues getting in the way. You sound very positive, how do you see the future?

Pippioddstocking · 06/07/2018 00:33

I'm loving this thread , so brave .

My question to you is
As a fellow middle aged Mum what length of dress/skirt would you consider too short?

Freyanna · 06/07/2018 00:38

I like the v - neck dress.

Where do you like to go on holiday to?

Flippetydip · 06/07/2018 06:08

MissConductUSA thank you for positive thoughts on the teen years. I think I hear so many bad things and never the good, so it's nice to hear that it doesn't actually need to be so horrendous.

Platypus yes I hear you. I'm positive mainly because of the sun, if I'd started this thread in winter it would have been a whole different outlook! So, I look forward to summers every year. Retirement is still another 20 years away for me, which seems quite a long way off. My next goal is to go part-time so that I can enjoy life now and not have to wait until retirement. Also, I'm not entirely sure that I haven't got another career in me somewhere down the line. 20 years is a LONG time.

How do you see the future? Sometimes I dread it, I find technology overwhelming - particularly for my children, I find the idea of aging parents and a aging partner a challenging one (for some reason, I don't worry about myself getting old - maybe I feel I'm invincible!) but generally I think because I have been so fortunate in life I kind of hope it just continues in the same vein. We have some lovely older friends though who lead the same kind of charmed life we did and just before retirement the husband contracted a horrible degenerative condition which makes me very sad, but also so aware that life doesn't always go the way you think it's going to.

As a fellow middle aged Mum what length of dress/skirt would you consider too short? I know the correct answer to this should be "whatever you wear is fine, your body, your rules" but actually for me, it depends on your legs so I do have a mini skirt that is very short but I wear it with leggings because I have wobbly thighs that really the world doesn't need to see, so it doesn't really count. But really, you know, whatever wear is fine - your body, your rules! Go for your life.

Where do you like to go on holiday to? this has changed since having the children. I had some amazing holidays pre-kids to all over the place, lived in various overseas locations and travelled a lot, now, I like to go to France or Cornwall. See, the epitome of boring.....

How's the dress working out for you Freyanna

Loads to look forward to. I am 56. I had the menopause a year ago with no symptoms or just about none and now things are so much better as no ups and downs of periods, PMT etc never mind the money savings in not having to buy tampax. Also people can look forward to their careers - mine is better even than in my 20s and I hope to work at least another 20 years; grandchildren. I have 2 teenagers at university and that's fun too. I still never ever get enough time alone so hopefully at one stage I will be an OAP with no one around - we live in hope.
