Due to living in a small island I'm frequently bored. Hence the thread. Grin

We have friends in Boothbay so are there quite a lot. Our nearest town is Camden. I love it. A bit crazy this time of year but still beautiful and nice food.

Is Wiscasset the place with signs proclaiming it the prettiest place in Maine? I’m afraid we spent a lot of time asking each other whether every place we drove through was prettier than there.

Stimmyplip · 26/07/2018 11:26

Haha! Yes that's the place. I strongly dispute that. (Especially when stuck outside that fucking lobster place on route 1 for an age.)

Wiscasset had no such signs when I was there, but that was a very long time ago. They do seem rather brilliant because people are now talking about Wiscasset even on MN and it's really a rather insignificant town.

Stim, Route 1 is absolutely infested with lobster places, so you'll have to be more specific. Smile

chemenger · 26/07/2018 15:05

Is it the lobster place with the 40 foot inflatable lobster on the roof?

Stimmyplip · 27/07/2018 01:26

@MissConductUS Reds Eats. It's been voted the best place to eat lobster in Maine and the queue will be an hour long down route one even on a rainy bloody Monday. Angry Pretty much everyone that loves in Maine wants it moved!

Stimmyplip · 27/07/2018 01:27

@chemenger No. That place cracks me up. I've never eaten there. I just want the big lobster. Grin

I had the lobster stew at Gilbert's Chowder House today. That WAS amazing and almost worth the cost to park in Portland.

Stimmyplip · 27/07/2018 10:08

@Semster GrinGrinGrin I put that up on my Facebook a few months ago and some of my, um, older friends from Maine took it very seriously and totally lost their shit. GrinGrinGrinGrinGrin

I haven't been to Portland for ages! I love a good chowder/stew. I had one the other day which clearly had frozen lobster in Envy not envy.

@Stimmyplip do you have a preference between Sephora and ULTA?

Stimmyplip · 27/07/2018 16:50

@macattack52 the only Sephora I've been to was in London and I've not been to an Ulta! Grin

Stim, does that mean that you don't do full makeup everyday? Shock Grin

macattack52 · 27/07/2018 18:19

@Stimmyplip the uk doesn't have Sephora...

MissConductUS · 27/07/2018 18:23

mac, I've never been to an Ulta but Sephora in the US is lovely. A bit pricey, but great products and selection.

macattack52 · 27/07/2018 18:25

@MissConductUS you are so lucky. It would be a dream come true to have access to a Sephora.

MissConductUS · 27/07/2018 18:29

mac, well come over and see us and shop Sephora! I'm in NY and we've lots of them.

Can you order on-line?

Semster · 27/07/2018 19:08

I just took my 15yo DD into Ulta for the first time - it didn't have anywhere near as much make up as Sephora but did have lots of other stuff for hair, etc, and lots of cheaper cosmetics ranges. It didn't seem that different to a drugstore except with a wider range. It did look like it was on the verge if closing down.

MissConductUS · 27/07/2018 19:27

As in empty shelves, rubbish on the floor, that sort of thing?

Stimmyplip · 27/07/2018 19:53

@macattack52 they used to have one near me in Islington years ago.

At least half the shelves were empty, and there was a fair amount of stuff deeply discounted. No rubbish though, and the staff were helpful. It was a bit of a weird atmosphere.

Yesterday our ferry broke down so there were no boats off all day until the end. The queues to get on the ferry were backed up for over a mile each way on to route one. Utter shit show.

Today we have a tiny ferry instead and at 7.30 this morning there was already at least 5 ferry loads of cars waiting to get off the island so mine and ds's fun plans of going off to stay with friends and go to a reggae festival are shot.

Instead we will be staying at home and going to a lawnmower race. Angry

Island living really isn't all shits and giggles.

OP posts:
MissConductUS · 28/07/2018 13:07

Sorry about the ferry troubles. The summer people must have been fuming, swanning about and threatening to sue everyone in sight, I'm sure.

The lawnmower race sounds like fun! Do take a picture or two to post. Grin

Stimmyplip · 28/07/2018 13:15

The poor guy that works the line on the mainland was getting serious abuse from some jumped up summer assholes. He's the sweetest guy in the world, so didn't deserve it.

I think the county sheriff ended up coming out as route one was becoming impassable, it's amazing there wasn't an accident!

My poor friend had travelled 10 hours with a newborn and 2 year old in the car only to be on the ferry that broke down, turned back to the mainland and then had to stay in her car for another 7 hours to get on the first ferry that ran!
