When I was about 6, my mother was repairing a cupboard door. I asked "Can women do that?" 5 minutes later, I was a feminist. It was that or leave home!
No dungarees any more. I once had red ones

Genuinely tell me exactly what you mean by being a feminist?

I sometimes see comments in Feminism Chatmwas feminism is not about equality for women but about liberation for women.what,does that mean?

To become a feminist all you have to do is realise that women do not equal rights and equality of opportunity worldwide and to decide to do anything you can to correct that. Read and listen and learn and teach.

I am bewildered by the preponderance of trans threads in Feminism Chat. Is this really the single biggest issue facing women?

Pheew i thought i was being thick and that it was a joke thread a la im a trans ask me anything from the responses above.

I confess to being confused by the trans stuff, some of it is hard going.

It makes me feel behind the door, everyday little lightbulbs flash on.

I think my feminist icon has to be Germaine Greer, even though I disagree with her on some things. Her lack of fucks to give is inspirational. I am going to misquote here, but I like "I don't know what. Feminist is-all I know is that it's what people call me when I express opinions that distinguish me from a doormat". And, darker, "Men worry that women will laugh at them, women worry that men will kill them"

Hard work? Well, it can be. It’s much easier to go with the flow than to question and challenge. And it’s difficult once you start seeing things through feminist eyes - once you start you can’t stop.

How can feminism become more relevant to the sort of ordinary young women who didn’t go to university, don’t read the Guardian but do watch Love Island and use Instagram?
