When did you realise you were one?

JoyTheUnicorn · 30/06/2018 16:12

Have you got bored of the "I'm a xxxxx ask me anything" too?

I'm tempted to start "I'm a chicken sexer - ask me anything" to see what happens.

I do have a question though.
Where do you think we'll be in 5/10 years time wrt the current trans issues - blown over or deep in Orwellian Oceana?

Arianagrandestattoo · 30/06/2018 16:12

I knew it would be you Grin

LanguidLobster · 30/06/2018 16:14

Ok girly - instruct me on what feminists need to do

Mogleflop · 30/06/2018 16:14

I was thinking of "I'm a useless nobody, ask me anything".

(Go on, anyone. I'll give it a go. Grin)

leghairdontcare · 30/06/2018 16:16

How many pairs of dungarees do you own?

elQuintoConyo · 30/06/2018 16:17

Why do you have a man's name for your MN account?

TheQueef · 30/06/2018 16:21

How do I become a feminist?

Is activism compulsory or is there an armchair entry level, for learners?

SapphireSeptember · 30/06/2018 16:21

Who's your feminist icon and what's your favourite feminist 'catchphrase' (for want of a better term)?

Mine's "nevertheless, she persisted", and my feminist icons are Angela Merkel and Angela Gossow.

LanguidLobster · 30/06/2018 16:27

Where's our feminist gone to...? Hmm

BertrandRussell · 30/06/2018 16:30

When I was about 6, my mother was repairing a cupboard door. I asked "Can women do that?" 5 minutes later, I was a feminist. It was that or leave home! Grin
No dungarees any more. I once had red ones
I changed my name to BertrandRussell for a specific purpose and just never changes it back. But I don't see a problem-there are lots of lovely men

It was either going to be you starting this or a 19yr old boy... I'm glad it's you Grin

mumprincess12 · 30/06/2018 16:33

Genuinely tell me exactly what you mean by being a feminist?

Aridane · 30/06/2018 16:34

I sometimes see comments in Feminism Chatmwas feminism is not about equality for women but about liberation for women.what, does that mean?

BertrandRussell · 30/06/2018 16:35

To become a feminist all you have to do is realise that women do not equal rights and equality of opportunity worldwide and to decide to do anything you can to correct that. Read and listen and learn and teach.

I am bewildered by the preponderance of trans threads in Feminism Chat. Is this really the single biggest issue facing women?

Coughy · 30/06/2018 16:39

Pheew i thought i was being thick and that it was a joke thread a la im a trans ask me anything from the responses above.

Grin
TheQueef · 30/06/2018 16:40

I confess to being confused by the trans stuff, some of it is hard going.

It makes me feel behind the door, everyday little lightbulbs flash on.

I'll get there, slowly Grin

BertrandRussell · 30/06/2018 16:40

I think my feminist icon has to be Germaine Greer, even though I disagree with her on some things. Her lack of fucks to give is inspirational. I am going to misquote here, but I like "I don't know what. Feminist is-all I know is that it's what people call me when I express opinions that distinguish me from a doormat". And, darker, "Men worry that women will laugh at them, women worry that men will kill them"

What is a woman?

BertrandRussell · 30/06/2018 16:46

A woman is an adult human of the class that produces eggs.

OP posts:
Chasingcars123 · 30/06/2018 16:47

I meant to say trans women!

ALittleAubergine · 30/06/2018 16:47

Is it hard work? Does it take up a lot of your time?

BertrandRussell · 30/06/2018 16:51

Hard work? Well, it can be. It’s much easier to go with the flow than to question and challenge. And it’s difficult once you start seeing things through feminist eyes - once you start you can’t stop.

How can feminism become more relevant to the sort of ordinary young women who didn’t go to university, don’t read the Guardian but do watch Love Island and use Instagram?
