Retired lap dancer- ask me anything

yourprivatedancerEX · 26/06/2018 05:30

It’s not something I tell new people I meet that for 10 years I used to be a very successful lap dancer. I have a very different career now but often reminisce about my secret lap dancing past, always with fond memories!
I think it’s still something that is frowned upon by many and in my view I think that’s largely down to being misunderstood. So if any of you have any questions I will answer them and hopefully give you some interesting insight into the secret world of lap dancing! Ask away.

Which club did you work in?
How much did you pay to work in the club per night?

yourprivatedancerEX · 26/06/2018 10:50

Advice please

Ok should i lie then and completely fabricate my 10 year experience to make you happy?

Shall I say it was horrendous and I was desperate to get out of it and hated every moment when it couldn’t be further from the truth?

I’m not sure what your problem is that I genuinely enjoyed my time in the industry?

I’m not encouraging anyone to do it or trying to recruit anyone into it. I’m answering the questions I’ve been asked based on my own feelings and experience.

If you feel so strongly about it then I’m not sure why you’ve continued reading this far into the thread to be honest.

Gosh what an amazing thread, it sounds idyllic.

yourprivatedancerEX · 26/06/2018 10:52

Crunchy mint

Too many different clubs to list and the fees varied from set entrance fee of £50/£60 a night and then everything you make after that is yours, or some clubs charged a percentage of commission so 30% of earnings for example.

How long ago did you lap dance? And for how long?

Adviceplease360 · 26/06/2018 10:56

My problem is clear.
You are one of the few who is claiming to have enjoyed something which objectifies women, most women in those roles are desperate and stuck and need support to leave but when we have people saying how wonderful it is, it reduces support for those women.
Not to mention the terrible standard it sets for young girls.
And yes I do feel strongly about it which is why I continued to read the thread.

specialsubject · 26/06/2018 10:57

It is nearly tax return time. Most don't get read and the details of expense claims are only checked if someone is investigated. I am boggled by the idea of a tax inspector going through a list of expenses for hair removal, fake tan and tiny sparkly bits of material!

models wiggle and jiggle and get paid lots, and seem to get idolised. I don't see the difference between that profession and this, except lapdancing looks to need more skill than just being able to walk.

tectonicplates · 26/06/2018 10:57

I'm asking genuine questions. There are people who enjoy the job and people who don't. Are you aware that the media are heavily biased towards the happy ones? At the moment there's story after story about how sex work is "empowering", and hardly any about the unhappy ones. I'm not even talking about trafficked women. I'm talking about women who "chose" the industry because they felt they had no other choice. Where are these women's stories? Can you really not understand why some of us are a little tired of all the "ask me anything" discussions coming from only the ones who say they're happy? I don't see how that's aggressive.

December2018 · 26/06/2018 10:59

I just want to say how much I admire your honesty... hats off to you girl!
I've got no questions just admiration!
Thanks for a good read too I'm enjoying this!

Adviceplease360 · 26/06/2018 11:00

Oh and BTW no don't lie, do society a favour and stay silent.

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 26/06/2018 11:01

What on earth are you talking about perfume for? How can you possibly equate women being paid to dance for sleazy men, many of them FORCED and TRAFFICKED, with the likes of Keira Knightley and Gwyneth Paltrow?🤯

December2018 · 26/06/2018 11:03

What are some people's problems!
I'd rather do a job that I enjoyed doing than wake up every morning miserable as sin hating my life and my job!!
Live & let live people!
Where all human at the end of the day

Okay just read all the many places you say you worked. And you say that women who offered more than dances were sacked. I know there are a very few places like this, but it is not the norm. Generally to get the kind of money you are talking about you either work in a very upmarket London lap dancing club, or you offer lots of "extras".
I know the clubs in one place you mention and there are no clubs where there are not lots of women offering "extras". Which is why I asked when you lap danced. If it was a very long time ago when lap dancing clubs first appeared, it may be the case that that was all that was offered then - although it was often called table dancing then. And women made most of their money not by lap dancing, but by getting men to buy very over priced drinks from which they got a cut. But the industry has moved on since then.

ineedwine99 · 26/06/2018 11:04

Thanks for the thread OP, it's been interesting to read and good to know a bit of background (had an ex who visited the clubs)

IllHaveALargeGlassOfRed · 26/06/2018 11:07

Really interesting thread - thanks for starting it!

But has anyone else got Tina Turner singing Private Dancer in their head now? Grin

evilharpy · 26/06/2018 11:08

You must have been super fit. Did dancing alone keep you so fit or did you have to do other training/exercise to keep up your stamina etc?

Do you still do any dancing as a hobby?

Yeah, right. Put it away.

evilharpy · 26/06/2018 11:10

findthegap such a shame if she has, it’s been fascinating reading this thread.

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 26/06/2018 11:10

Some of us don't like women being bought, treated as objects for men's entertainment, dehumanised, trafficked and viewed as nothing more Han commodities, funnily enough.

We also don't like the message these clubs give to society about women - that affects ME and MY DAUGHTERS! So no, it isn't live and let live, not when I am affected.

But let's be all choosy choice and forget about the trafficking and degradation and utter, outright misogyny that allows these clubs to exist.

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 26/06/2018 11:11

Findthegap, dissenting opinions are allowed you know.

crunchymint · 26/06/2018 11:11

Just to say, I suspect the OP lapdanced quite a while ago. The industry is not now as she describes it.

What is different nowadays?
