Our verdict

If you are looking for a pair of comfortable, yet durable, kids' headphones that don't cost the earth, then the iClever BTH22 headphones are an excellent choice.

The headband and ear cups are cushioned in soft protein leather, which makes it comfortable to wear for long periods of time. The sound is limited to 85dB to protect little ears, but I wasn't keen on the ear-piercing bleep that’s emitted when you reach the max volume level.

The iClever BTH22 wireless headphones come with a 3.5mm audio cable, so you can continue to use the headphones even if the battery is flat. Although with a 60-hour battery life, this should rarely be a problem.

What are the iClever BTH22 headphones like to set up?

The iClever BTH22 headphones are incredibly easy to set up. There are three chunky buttons on the right ear - two volume controls and the power button in between the two. To switch the headphones on, the user just has to press and hold the power button for two seconds before the voice prompt confirms the power status. The indicator light then starts to flash red and blue to show the headphones have entered pairing mode. To pair, the Bluetooth function has to be activated on the phone, laptop or tablet and the iClever BTH22 selected from the list that appears on the screen. The handy voice prompt confirms the headphones have been connected to the device.

Do the iClever BTH22 headphones have any special features?

iClever boasts that these headphones are built with its patented Safe-Volume Technology which limits the volume to protect children’s hearing while still providing crisp, clear sound. The earphones can be set to one of two safe volume levels - 74dB or 85dB. Pressing both volume buttons at the same time switches between these two levels.

The iClever BTH22 also comes with a built-in microphone, which can be used for calls.

What are the iClever BTH22 headphones like in day-to-day use?

With straightforward controls and chunky buttons, both my children found the headphones easy to use. The swivel ear cup design with 10-position adjustable headband allowed the iClever BTH22 to fit their heads comfortably, and the super-soft protein leather meant the headphones could be worn for long periods, so they are perfect for car and train journeys. That said, my six-year-old took them off after a while, complaining of a sweaty head.

Although the headphones are not noise-cancelling, they still did a pretty good job at filtering out outside noise. I was also pretty impressed by the durability of the headphones as they were dropped and thrown in bags and boxes yet managed to come out unscathed.

Are the iClever BTH22 headphones good value for money?

Priced at £22 on Amazon at the time of writing (May 9th, 2024), the answer is a resounding yes, the iClever BTH22 headphones are good value for money

It may not have the noise-cancelling ability of the Puro Sound Labs PuroQuiet Plus, and the sound may not be quite as crisp, but the iClever BTH22 is a fraction of the price and is more than adequate for younger kids. The durability of the iClever BTH22 headphones means they are perfect for throwing in a suitcase and accompanying you on your family travels this summer.
