Russell Brand has been charged with 3 counts of rape, 3 counts of sexual assault and 1 count of indecent assault.
He was at court today for day 1 and his wife was there supporting him.
I’m not judging her it isn’t a situation I’d ever want to be in but it’s made me think… if the police knocked on my door and my husband was charged would I support him?
I don’t think I would, it must be hard if the man you’ve married has always been loving and respectful to you but I know for a fact how hard it is to get these cases to trial.

There are so many women who have come forward I couldn’t stand by him. I certainly wouldn’t be seen in public with him.

Ivegotonehandinmypocket · 12/10/2026 21:12

Given it wasn’t just one case then no, I’d not stand by him. Then again he’s been a sleaze for a very long time so I’m sure she knew what he was like before she got with him. He makes my skin crawl

Error404FucksNotFound · 12/10/2026 21:13

I would not. Not with evidence.

notacooldad · 12/10/2026 21:13

I would want facts and evidence before I made any decision to be honest if the police cane to me about DH.

Lifeomars · 12/10/2026 21:19

Personally I think he is a devious, self-promoting sleaze bag . As for his wife, this must be so hard, she has I think 3 children with him and I wonder how much denial and disbelief she is dealing with just so she can function day to day.

Waterbaby41 · 12/10/2026 21:20

Whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty. He has not been found guilty of anything as yet.

Waitingfordoggo · 12/10/2026 21:21

No, absolutely not. Lots of allegations and a case that’s strong enough to make it to court would be the end for me.

And in this specific example, quite apart from the allegations, how can she stand him as a person? He is and has always been so utterly self-absorbed. I remember him saying in an interview years ago that Laura did almost all the babycare of their daughters because he was a silly useless man and didn’t know how to change nappies etc. Nowadays he wangs on about Jesus and conspiracy theories. I know he has always been open about mental illness and addiction, but I think it goes beyond that into the realms of personality disorder and I couldn’t cope with being in a relationship with someone like that.

ItalianChips · 12/10/2026 21:25

I really hope that the victims get justice.
Long story short but my allegation of rape ended in a trial.. 25 years after I reported.
The evidence was restraint marks and genital injuries.
His defense was I was upset about a lads holiday he was going on and he had to restrain me, we then made up with rough consensual sex.. not what happened at all but the jury voted not guilty.
The police told me after trial though that the charges had destroyed his life, within weeks of them knocking his wife left him and moved far away with there children. I’m pleased for her, I’ve never met her but I doubt he’d changed because do they ever? He also lost his job.

No I wouldn’t stand by. I’ve cut a close friend out of my life for being a rapist and I didn’t think twice about it. Lots of people do stand by though. And I judge that very harshly.

He’s gross, I remember on the British bake-off he made a cake in the design of I think his wife’s vagina… who the fuck does that, grim.

I can imagine she’s frightened and confused, possibly in a coercive relationship.

He’s a frightening, controlling narcissist with serious addiction problems.

I hope she has support.

Its vanishingly hard to get a rape allegations past the CPS. Unless you've seen it first hand, I dont think you could even begin to belive how hard it is.

Dolg · 12/10/2026 21:34

No. He’s hurt a lot of women.

thebrowncatisback · 12/10/2026 21:42

i find it hard to believe that he’s an ideal husband to her

she must surely be having doubts about him. She must know what he’s capable of. Deep down

I think the sheer volume of accusations would be enough for most of us

He no doubt tells her that he was a bit of a lad when younger and that the women were up for it

TooBigForMyBoots · 12/10/2026 22:34

No.

I have learned never to defend a man against allegations of sexual violence.

Pedant61 · 12/10/2026 22:42

I don't know enough about this case to comment on Laura Brand specifically.
But. If someone is charged with an offence, they are still innocent.... until they are found guilty. Equally, they may be found not guilty. How could we know until the court case was completed?
I would imagine that most wives would assume their husband to be Not Guilty, so of course they would support them.
It is disturbing how many people seem to think that an accusation automatically equals guilt.

But having been the victim in a case like this I know full well that a not guilty verdict does not mean the Vicim is lying.
It’s so so hard to prove but knowing how much evidence is needed for the CPS to charge my go to is.. it’s very unlikely the rape didn’t happen.

Only in the eyes of the law.

In reality, if someone is guilty of rape, they are guilty as soon as they rape somebody. They are not innocent of rape in the years it takes a court to find them guilty of it.

Rapists are guilty of rape the minute they rape someone.

TooBigForMyBoots · 13/10/2026 01:21

Even if their victim never reports the rape, a rapist is a rapist from the moment they rape.

But that’s a legal definition.

i also have my own thoughts outside of this and could decide that i believed the women or I felt his behaviour was morally wrong.

CurdinHenry · 13/10/2026 12:31

I'm amazed at how many values I thought were universal to modern post enlightenment societies (innocent until proven guilty) are not.

Anyway most women do stand by the bloke when it comes to the crunch for a host of reasons

Spaniels4Eva · 13/10/2026 12:36

She's got children with him, and has probably been gaslit to hell and back about these women who were insatiable then turned on him Hmm You can only hope that if he's found guilty, her family step in and help her to "de-program" from him. Men like this are very clever and manipulative. She probably hasn't made a decision for herself since they've been together and choose their partners carefully... he was never going to end up with a strong feminist.
