Laura Brand, would you stand by your man? Trigger rape.

Russell Brand has been charged with 3 counts of rape, 3 counts of sexual assault and 1 count of indecent assault.
He was at court today for day 1 and his wife was there supporting him.
I’m not judging her it isn’t a situation I’d ever want to be in but it’s made me think… if the police knocked on my door and my husband was charged would I support him?
I don’t think I would, it must be hard if the man you’ve married has always been loving and respectful to you but I know for a fact how hard it is to get these cases to trial.

There are always women ready to leap to the defence of men. As can be seen on this thread. So depressing.

I think that people need to wait until the end of the trial before deciding innocence or guilt.

You really don’t. Of course official bodies do have to wait as he’s innocent in law but everyone else is entitled to make their own judgements.

As I said, my childhood friends sisters told me he raped them as a child. I believed them and cut him off years before the trial. Eventually he pleaded guilty at court and was sentenced.

You really don’t have to wait for the end of trial in any situation - that’s a choice.

But I accept in this situation she may well have limited information and is going to trial to hear what the evidence is before she decides.

No they don’t, only the jurors need to do that

Even if hes found guilty he will get a fine and community service at the most. He might be required to attend a perpetrators course only.

Don’t be daft. Rape is the second most serious crime with murder the first, if he is found guilty he’s going away for a long time,

Tulipsriver · 15/10/2026 17:42

There would need to be extremely damning evidence before I'd believe it.

My reaction would be exactly the same as if my sister was accused of stealing or my best friend was accused of abusing her child. I just wouldn't believe they'd have done it, even though I know women do commit those crimes on a regular basis.

If I thought it was a remote possibility that my DH would rape someone, I would never have married or had children with him.

Equally, I wouldn't judge anyone else for believing their partner is innocent (or sister, or best friend) because presumably they trust them completely too.

Ratcherinthepye · 16/10/2026 00:56

I just read an article about the trial. One of the women claims she was okay to share an hotel room because she thought he was gay which tracks tbf! This was before he was famous so she wouldn’t have known he had a rep for sleeping around with women.

thebrowncatisback · 16/10/2026 12:47

I don’t think i would have gotten married to a sex addict. In fact, i know i wouldn’t. Let alone have kids

she stuck by him after that very damning Dispatches doco so she may as well keep going

plus all the conspiracy bullshit.

shes not right in the head

Why? We wont know what goes on in that courtroom or jury debates

Yeah it takes a certain type of woman to marry Brand knowing all that she did, so I am sure she will stand by him regardless.

The only thing I think would make her rethink their marriage is if he loses all his money and it impacts their lifestyle.

thebrowncatisback · 16/10/2026 12:55

I hope the jury are convinced

at the end of the day; rape is very hard to prove

I had a horrible run in with him the ladies toilet at the comedy store about 20 years ago (no crime committed). The man is a predator, no doubt.

I wonder what he tells her to keep her onside

@PoweredBySheerSpite

urgh he’s so gross

what did he do/say?

OneoftheWeddingPeople · 16/10/2026 16:28

Not in this case. Numerous different unrelated women it’s clearly a pattern of behaviour and there’s undeniable evidence of how he behaves to women on screen for gods sake. She’s bought into all this though.

If it was one troubled person accusing and there was not evidence I would likely defend him. A weird girl an ex friend of one of our teens made up total lies about our family once which was actually quite scary. She eventually admitted it was all lies as she was “bored” and jealous of dd2 but proved to me false accusations can happen.

ThisQuirkyHare · 16/10/2026 16:29

I can't help but wonder what Katy Perry is thinking right now

He’s very articulate and while he’s not my cup of tea can no doubt be charismatic and charming if you like that kind of thing.

So he has probably told her everyone is just jealous of him or the “establishment” is gunning for him because he speaks the truth blah blah.

And some women (and men) hear what they want to hear!

I don't.

I suppose it must be easier to live with the belief that all men are "innocent" of VAWG unless a court says so. It's not the reality though.

I wouldn’t marry someone in the public eye who was known to be highly promiscuous in the first place…

Minasama · 16/10/2026 17:46

Dragononawagon · 14/10/2026 18:11

Any woman who chose to marry Russell Brand has surely shown her poor judgment LONG before any court case came knocking, but no. I wouldn’t have been there holding his hand.

Exactly this. One can only assume she lacks self respect / self esteem or has mental health problems because a normal, decent, grounded person would not marry someone like Russell Brand.

Thewonderfuldollypartonsbra · 16/10/2026 18:03

The girlfriend of 'my' rapist not only stood by him,she smirked, stared me out, shot me dirty looks, shouted at me outside the court (and again in the local supermarket)threatened to 'thump me' and made it clear she didn't believe me (and the other lady who had accused him)

He walked around, cocky as fuck and was laughing about everything

She knew he'd been unfaithful to her,she knew what he was like, she knew his attitude to women, she heard what was said in court (twice over) and still stood by him

Some people just can't see what is in front of them

(He got away with it-2 women within 3 months (me and the other lady) came forward and we where not believed)

She's still out there, still with him and has been standing by him with 4 more women accusing him (over 11 years)

She just will not accept her boyfriend is a rapist and believes all these women are 'out to get him' for their own reasons

I honestly don't know what it will take for her to stop and think 'well actually...'

Yet you didn't see Georgina Chapman for dust when the news about Harvey Weinstein broke - good on her.

Sorry but everyone knew for years what HW was like including his wife, she only hit the hills when she knew it was no longer profitable or acceptable to stay with him.

OneoftheWeddingPeople · 16/10/2026 19:15

Listened to the testimony. Suggest any doubters do the same. If they’ve got the stomach for it.

OneoftheWeddingPeople · 16/10/2026 19:15

Throw away the key imo.

No I've not noticed that. Also:

A) if wasn't me who suggested RB was innocent until proven guilty.
B) technically everyone who is charged with a crime and goes to court is innocent until proven guilty irrespective of race, sex, the crime etc

It doesn’t mean they are innocent - they are to be treated as if innocent

they are guilty from the time they commit the crime
