Go and get a really good hair cut, your skin care is good so maybe add some mascara, lip gloss to top up now and again. Go to a beauty counter they are falling over themselves to offer advice as business is so bad, tell them you want something easy and natural and a good assistant will help. When you feel a better about yourself you will be able to shop for clothes you feel good in.

I'd be very careful at makeup counters as they'll try and get you to buy tons of stuff you'll never use. A bit of concealer round your eyes and mascara would be a good start to perk yourself up without trowelling the makeup on. Then you can see whether you think you need a bb cream or foundation and other things. Moisturising your face well makes a difference - Boots No7 do some great ones at a sensible price for older skin.

I’m about 5foot 6. I’m defo and 18 chest is rather large after breast feeding 5 babies (youngest 16) bra is 38g. My husband wasn’t a looker when I married him. I was attracted to the ugly best friend because they were usually more dead on. Hubby was just that. But he has a silver fox thing going on now and when he wears his suit and
polished shoes for work he has that powerful presence he doesn’t have in jeans and golf shirt! Ding Dong!

Anyway I’ve had my colours done a year ago I’m a
”soft summer” I guess I should embrace the colour thing really. My town is Belfast so it’s got most things. My hair is good I go to a place in city centre and the colour and cut is good. I’ll check out that nail brand a pp suggested and try that too. I like the look of the bare minerals stuff so I’ll try that.

thanks again for your input. Even the bitchy ones made me smile x

My bra size has considerably changed these last years (smaller cup, underbust etc) so the bra I am currently wearing is a 32/34 J (I used to wear much larger).
so this is my first advice: get yourself to a professional bra fitting. It is so incredibly important. I never had luck at high street fittings or highstreet boutiques.

the smaller, niche boutiques specialised in large breast or reconstructive surgery patients are usually the best. I travel nearly 1 hour 45 (one way) to meet „mine“ and it is so worth it.

anyhow: makeup. A full face can be nice. But I‘d say that emphasising one feature is usually enough. Bold(ish) lip colour and mascara? And you’re done. And it takes less than 5 minutes.
or more dramatic eyemakeup and some tinted lip balm (but that takes longer).

If you wear glasses you can skip the mascara and just go for a bold lip imo. It’s one thing and makes such a difference.

similar with clothes: choose on thing to emphasise.

do you like your legs? Great. Opaque tight and short(ish) skirt or knitted dress.

nice waist? Maybe define it with high waisted trousers (or a skirt), a belt and a tucked in shirt. Super simply. All you need is a reasonably well fitting pair of trousers and a belt.

nice cleavage? Emphasise that.

hair: that depends so much on hairtype, face shape, preference. A blow dry brush is a life saver for me but won’t be for everyone.

people will pick up on hair, makeup and your outfit/clothes. But there’s no need to do all 3 of them. It’s usually enough to get a decent outfit and hair OR makeup.

I absolutely agree.

But I do believe that a good lip colour can be a game changer as well.

I usually wear contacts or thin / gold wire glasses.
But if I am super busy and stressed I simply put on a bolder pair of (more statement-y) glasses, a bold-ish (not bright red but definitely noticeable) lip colour and I already look quite put together.

I keep on seeing get a bra fitting, get a good bra - why ? The OP's boobs look like they are in the right place 🤷‍♀️ and they don't look as big as she says.

& bootleg high waisted pvc jeans.

Wouldn't they be rather sweaty?

How can you tell from the photo? The jumper is too shapeless to see.

Wearing the right sized underwear makes a huge difference to how clothes look. If your boobs are supported properly then it makes your waist look smaller and your clothes look better.

I am only 34 C and a bra fitting made a huge difference. Most women wear a band too big and a cup size too small? and so was I. My clothes hang a lot better.

I can see the level they are at. They're not hanging at her waist . Yes though - any steps possibly.

thank you all for your replies. im sitting here having a wee chuckle to myself because i thought this was one of my better days being dressed lol. I've only just bought the jumper so you see what a disaster I am. I will take on board all the make up advice and head into town this weekend see what i can buy. Im a size 18 can ye recommend any online people to follow to see if i can get some inspo?

You have a lot of advice to take on board here and you need to find your own way to look good. My mother always did her hair and makeup before my father came home from work. Perhaps that could be your reason for changing into something nice and doing your hair.

My advice, for what it's worth, is don't try and do it all by yourself.

Ask the women at the beauty counters - that's what they are there for.

Ask your hairdresser for advice - they are the experts.
If you have a shop with a personal shopper - use their service.
Check out your health, while you are at it.
Do it bit by bit and don't terrify your husband!
Good luck. You sound lovely.

Sorry, but are we back in the 50s? It's not enough that she has to raise 5 kids seemingly by herself and do elder care, she also has to do her hair and makeup when the sainted husband enters?

minnowonthesay · Today 11:51

That bit about your Mum @LoveMyBusPass reminded me of my Mum too! She’d do her housework in a ‘housecoat’ with rollers in her hair and transform just before my Dad got home! If I hear the song Wives & Lovers by Jack Jones (Burt Bacharach) I’m back being a toddler again and being amazed at my Cinderella Mummy!
‘Hey little girl comb your hair, fix your make up, soon he’ll be opening the door….Don’t even think as there’s a ring on your finger, you needn’t try anymore…’ Imagine writing that today???? It was 1963!

Because a well-fitting bra does wonders for how you look.
OP has been mistaken for a man in her photo despite being a 38G, so it's not a bad suggestion.

It depends on your boobs too whether they project or are wide, the shape of them
I posted a pic up thread - I am wearing a sports bra but I’m a 34L which most people don’t think exists/is the right size for me

Rockpunkdisco · Today 17:19

After having to dress smartly for work every day and lots of occasions, I've now turned into a bit of a minger too and embrace it! DH has seen me looking my best for iver 30 years, now mid 50s and working pt, how I love to wear my comfies at home.

From your photo you could choose less 'dull' colours, get some pastels, bright coloured clothes. Clog type shoes come in a lot of fun designs, jazzy boots, trainers?

Unless your DH has said something, it's just clearly how you're feeling. I know I don't look glamorous at home but I'm clean any clothes are practical but multicoloured. Xx

You look fine to me. Belive in yourself
