And I think this is the jumper you are wearing which in reality is an ok jumper, I think it’s how you are standing which has made people think it’s not so nice. If you click on each colour you will see the different style trousers they have dressed thr models in. One of the different styles might suit you better with the jumper you already own. I try to make the most of what I have by buying different things to mix in with my clothes for different looks.

www.seasaltcornwall.com/fruity-striped-merino-jumper?glCountry=GB&glCurrency=GBP&color=47422&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=23171850874&gbraid=0AAAAAD_rcomNlc0i7vz4an6HFNpCIsWa-&gclid=CjwKCAjwi-zWBhAdEiwAqlRf-MSKMBVGKXpkitRRJ2uhMNjEdBNjaScdQet4-xPbP0j9F2UusIO7lBoCxCEQAvD_BwE

Looking at the model wearing I think the OP is wearing clothes in too large a size. As a pp pointed out they look smaller than they think.

As you already own it I'd suggest a longer white shirt underneath and good quality black leggings, go for a Claudia Traitors look.

SimpleNovember · Today 09:35

You are not a minger! But I get it when you are feeling down about yourself, I’ve been there, a few years ago in fact and this is what I did (okay beware I invested ££ but it was worth it ..and you don’t have to do it all!) -

  • Teeth whitening - best investment I have ever made, changed my life.
  • Second best investment was a personal stylist for the day - she was amazing and got me out of skinny jeans! Made me look at clothes different, with more confidence. There are apps that can help with clothes these days. Colour matching makes such a difference but somewhere like John Lewis can do that for you without the need for a stylist. Look at recent trends and use ChatGPT to help. M+S are great at the moment.
  • Botox - small amount and only get it once a year.
  • Space NK girls helped with natural makeup that didn’t cling to my every line but during the day I tend to just wear concealer, tinted moisturiser, lip balm and mascara. LOVE tinted moisturiser, it’s amazing and gives you that slight tanned look. You don’t need to spend a fortune on makeup - google for reviews.
  • If you are larger go to Bravissimo for bras, they are amazing and completely change your shape.

If your skincare is good you are halfway there! The clothes you have on don’t do much for your shape or colour, stay away from the green!! Good luck x

FoldItIn · Today 09:37

Are you sure you are a size 18 @BitterHarvest ? You look slimmer than that.

You do not need to spend a fortune in some of the shops recommended on here. Just go to New Look, H&M, Zara etc. Even Primark has lovely basics that are excellent value.

If you have Pinterest, have a look on there at any outfits you like and then you have an idea before you go shopping.

Edited to add, definitely get some make up advice from a counter. I use No7 almost exclusively now, occasionally treating myself to something more luxurious. I know i can pick it up at any branch of Boots and the women on the counter are always so helpful.

The jumper looks like it could do with being in a smaller size as it’s baggier than you need. I hate that shape of trouser as it’s very ageing! Wide legged or bootcut would suit you better. You need to accentuate your shape. And chunky trainers are fashionable not flats.

Not a fan of the trousers either. Ankle grazers are a thing but I think they flatter nobody. Make legs look stubby. Flares look the most flattering or maybe baggy leg if you can get your head round them. But not barrel. They are a crime. Why folk want to look like a bow legged sailor I will never know.

Quite like a flared yoga pant thing as they are comfy but a bit stylish. A wedge platform boot for a bit of lift without feeling like you are in heels, I live in Fly of London boots. So comfy.
Funky trainers ..I like a platform trainer......theme here I am only 5'4 and like a bit of lift but can't be doing with heels.

Wordsmithery · Today 09:49

I had my colours done by a professional colour stylist years ago. I still use the colour palette she came up with for me.
Find the colours that make you pop.
Look at clothes online until you find a couple of brands you love. I have one favourite brand and buy on Vinted and eBay as more affordable that way. And look for cuts that complement your figure and feel comfortable.
Get a decent haircut too. That'll make you feel instantly great.
I'm overweight and not attractive and I never wear make up but regularly get complimented on my appearance 😊
Enjoy your glow up!

I'd just like to point you in the direction of Marie-Anne Lecoeur on YT. I've found her videos very helpful.

read the first few sentences of the OP and a glimpse of the picture and I thought this was going to be a sarcastic post about how men age well (not all do!)

I love the colours in your outfit and feel they will complement a soft summer. It’s just the fit of the jumper which lets it down, it’s way too baggy and shapeless.

I hate bright raspberry colours and white shirts underneath. I think that’s an ageing look. I’d also hate fake tan!

Lisa Eldridge seamless skin enhancing tint is perfect and I think would suit someone unused to wearing foundation or much makeup generally.

Plus you’re not a minger, don’t say that about yourself.

if you’re wanting a glow up and new look, go for a style consultant, someone running their own business and who has good reviews.

lostntranslation · Today 10:15

I will be honest I was another who initially thought it was a picture of your husband. As you take a closer look its obvious its not.

I think the chat gpt image showed how you could transform the look. I think the trousers arent good on you. Top is too big but might work tucked into wide leg trousers.

Hopefully someone your shape has commented for guidance. I am the opposite pearshaped and that comes with its own challenges.

I just wanted to say its wonderful you think your husband is getting more attractive and I bet he fancies you just as much as ever. You look to have a good figure from the picture its just hidden under the clothes. Its not unusual for a woman your age to have a tummy. Be proud of your shape. So long as you try to be active and eat well thats all that matters. If we were all the same life would be very boring.

I have never been a make up type of person but I do use a light bb cream and mascara occasionally also with a light tinted lipsalve. But in terms of skin care have started using a tret cream from skin and me. Its prescription only but you just send them a photo and fill out a very shot questionnaire. I do think it helps a bit with fine lines. I tend to just use it every other day as its expensive and to give my skin a break.

Anyway good luck and well done for being brave enough to post on here.

RampantIvy · Today 10:16

@BettyBeauty That's where wearing the right colours for you comes in. Those colours suit me and wouldn't look ageing on me.

The colours that the OP is wearing would be very ageing on me and would make me look grey and washed out.

I know some people pooh pooh the idea of colour analysys, but it has been a game changer for me. I suit jewel winter colours as I have dark hair and eyes and pale skin.

BlueFahrenheit · Today 10:21

A. Wear dresses.

B. Book a session with a professional makeup artist to learn what techniques best enhance your features.

C. Leave your hair out. Flowy hair looks youthful.

Idontpostmuch · Today 10:29

I'm sure you look better than you think. In my experience people who think they look terrible rarely do. Those who think they are stunning rarely are. My friend thinks she's ugly. She isn't. By all means have fun with some of the suggestions but please stop thinking you look so bad.

Yes! I love (loved) seasalt things trousers are white stuff. When they first came to Belfast I spent a fortune because I love their stuff but hey it’s all going on Vinted!

Definitely no white stuff or sea salt-you are much too young. And really look at your colour palate-that is doing you no favours. I also find trousers that are too short, showing socks is not a good look

The colours OP is wearing is complete opposite of soft summer, can guarantee she would look 100 times better is the soft summer pallette.

Raspberry/white would look good on me, definitely great colours for me to wear as long its the blue toned rasperry colours, my friend who is autumn would look dreadful in them.

It isnt just the colours though, the fit like you say isn't right either.

Your at home so do you need to be wafting around in something possibly glam and floaty . You look warm and relaxed .
What is it you envisage wearing at home ?
Perhaps you could try a dress with a gilet on top or a nice autumn skirt with a bright colour jumper etc . Maybe some more colour to your wardrobe .

@Iclyn

a dress with a gillet on top?! Ewww

Cherrytree86 · Today 10:38

Do you not go on date nights with your husband?
go out to catch up with friends?
you can wear makeup up then
@BitterHarvest

The jumper looks ok on the young slim model but is not becoming on the @BitterHarvest (I speak as someone similar)

And I agree no White Stuff or Seasalt, they’re fine, but not if you’re looking for a glow up

SexyFrenchDepression · Today 10:41

BitterHarvest · Today 09:09

Thank you all for the advice. I’m pleased for the negatives as well as the positives because it gives me somewhere to start. I wear a size 18 because I have a round tummy. Mt natural waist is high and is about 42in my belly is about 45 ins but my hips are 42 ins. So jeans and trousers on the whole fit at waist and are huge on legs. Tops in a smaller size fit beautifully on
shoulders but stretch over the tummy. It’s not a pleasant site and I could never ever tuck in. It would show of the fatty mound in my pubic area. (I’ve had 5 kids this is just the way I am)

This is easy though as you can say this to chat gpt and it will give you ideas for what is flattering for your shape. Sometimes its not what you expect to be flattering that is.

Cherrytree86 · Today 10:42

Sea salt is horrific. Bland and frumpy

I dont even think it looks good on the model, the outfit the model is wearing looks old and frumpy but she can get away with it as shes so slim. Paired with something else perhaps but those jeans look dreadful. Baggy stuff on tiny people doesnt look great, in particular as you get older. The oversized look is great for teens/early twenties but 40s/50s not so much (IMO).

They are shapeless and lose their shape even more in the wash. I’m convinced they only good on the very tall slim models
