Housekeeper playing music- aibu?

NoMusicPlease · 22/10/2026 16:24

I live in a large house on a farm. I have a housekeeper who comes in each day between 10-6.

Today I was in the garden and she drove up to the house and parked outside. I could hear her music which annoyed me because I moved to the country for peace and quiet. It wasn't blasting but I don't want to hear any music while I'm outside.

I told her she's not allowed to play music while she's driving on the farm and she seemed a bit upset and was much quieter than normal. I think that might have to do with her personal circumstances because she's currently getting divorced.

Was I being unreasonable?

This has to be a windup. How entitled do you have to be to make a person turn off their vehicle radio on your property?? This can't be real.

Here comes the next genius who’s insulted Op without reading anything

JulietteRoche · 22/10/2026 19:11

Wow, I was all ready to say that you weren't BU, because I have a cleaner when I work from home, and I couldn't be doing with her blasting music. But in HER OWN CAR? Get over yourself.

Vitrolinsanity · 22/10/2026 19:12

RTFT!!!!!

AgileMentor · 22/10/2026 19:13

She can do what she wants while in her car. It isn’t affecting the way she does her job and you have absolutely no right to tell her not to. If I was her you’d be receiving my notice. What an a hole.

@Greenmouldycheese

Can you please read all of my posts?

Ok op well done for having the temerity to apologise.
You're not the ogre that we thought you were.

Vitrolinsanity · 22/10/2026 19:14

How hard is it to filter OPs post and turn the thread upside down before committing to being a bit of a twit?

QuestionableMouse · 22/10/2026 19:14

Sounds like everyone was having a bad time. I'm glad you've made up and hope you're both feeling better soon.

Migraines, ear pain and tooth pain are all bloody awful.

Blades2 · 22/10/2026 19:18

You don’t sound like a
nice employer.
i hope she leaves.

If it was while she was meant to be at work then you were within your rights to say no music.

It was 2 minutes while she parked her car.

Thank you. In general I'm not a nasty or unreasonable person and genuinely don't know what came over me earlier.

You’ve apologised and she’ll be very grateful for the dental appointment, anyone would.

Emeraldforest · 22/10/2026 19:22

Gosh how snobbish, are you the Queen? No,she'd be nicer!

She had it playing for a couple of minutes while she was gathering her things.

I think she should have turned it off as soon as she stopped the car.

I assume you think she won't give notice because she needs the money.

You'd do well to remember good cleaners are like gold dust, Lady Muck.

Emeraldforest · 22/10/2026 19:25

Ok, all's well now it seems.Hope you both have a better day tomorrow.

Goldengirl123 · 22/10/2026 19:27

Yes, I doubt she'd treat people like that.

I assume you haven't read the full thread.

It would help to read all of the OP's posts. 🙄🙄🙄

My husband has just text to say the dentist (who is a family friend) is running early so she's in and being seen now.

That's convenient.
I hope she gets sorted and has a long restful weekend.

God help you if that's all you've got to worry about.

This thread was already hmmmm but chocolate for a person with a toothache? How odd.

FreyaW · 22/10/2026 19:37

Fk me 🙄

thestudio · 22/10/2026 19:39

She's not pissed off about the music, she's shocked to have discovered that you are insane.

I speak as someone who hates other people inflicting their digital music/videos/conversation partners on others.

I didn't know she had toothache when I was considering it. And she can always eat it when she feels better.
