La Croix du Vieux Pont at Easter

Got GCSEs and A levels coming up so fancied a few days in Paris in Easter holidays but hotels are so expensive. Can get a 3 bed mobile home here and just travel in each day, and has bonus of stuff to do if DCs want to stay behind a day.

Anyone been and would recommend (or not)?

We’ve been to that site many times and always loved it. To get the train into Paris I think you’d need to go to Compiegne. DLP is 90 minutes drive and Parc Asterix 60 minutes. Between Compiegne and the site there’s the Armistice Clearing, well worth visiting and many war cemeteries very close by. On the way to Soissons there’s a tree adventure place and plenty of shops, hypermarche etc in Soissons.

We visited last October half term. Used as a base for visiting Disney & Paris. We went from Villers-Cotterets to Paris on the train, free parking & cost £70 return for 6 of us took just over an hour so visited twice. Lots of interesting Ww1 stuff to do locally. Pierrefonds Chateau was good for an afternoon. The park itself was good, pool was busy, did get a little grubby in the changing rooms but slides were fab. The local village is about 15 minute walk with Boulangerie etc. Intermarche was a few minutes drive away in Soissons. The site takeaway was good, busy. My kids are under 10 but as a base it’s great, will go back.

We went and weren’t overly fussed about it. I think it’s a fair way out of Paris. You might be better with Center Parcs.

I would also look at Meininger Hostel - not been to Paris one but other ones have been decent.

City Camp is near Paris & they have wooden chalets.

Huttopia have a few sites on the outskirts too & their sites are lovely & chilled.

LCDVP was just a bit busy for us. So depends on what you enjoy.

We've been twice, both in the summer. The first year we really enjoyed it so booked to go again. The second year it was awful, so much so that we abandoned our accommodation and booked into the Raddison at Disney for the remaining 4 nights of our holiday.

Oh wow, some really differing experiences. Thanks for the other suggestions I’ll look into those.

Kids now not sure they want to go away at all, toying with it DH and I should sack it off and just do a couple of nights away on our own !

@Phunkychicken

Do you think after exams might work better in any case? You could do a couple of nights end of June for a good price.

Phunkychicken · 28/03/2025 07:44

We’ve tried That but between 2 proms, concerts and going away with friends there’s no time.

I’m 50 next month so DH and I might just go away for a night or two

We're experienced campers and found it pretty grim to be honest. Lots of drunken British families and it was miles away from Paris.

If it is something you still want to do, look at camping quatre vents near Paris. Much closer, train station there that goes to Paris and 15 min drive to Disney . Much more chilled and relaxed after a busy day in Paris.

converseandjeans · 28/03/2025 21:27

@Mapletreelane I’m glad it’s not just us. I thought we must be weird as on the Eurocamp FB chat page everyone loves the place. I think it’s Brits who would probably prefer an all inclusive in Spain but can’t quite stretch to it & so go there instead. Our accommodation was decent & plot was nice but I just didn’t love the vibe.

Luckily we had a great week at a smaller Huttopia site & this was a few night stop off en route home.

Haha, no not just you! My friend went the year after we did, and was really excited. I didn't say anything as like you say there were so many great reviews maybe we had a one off bad experience. She had an awful time and I wish I had have said something to her. It is absolutely miles from Paris as well, it's like staying in Rugby because it is convenient for London.

BareBelliedSneetch · 28/03/2025 21:41

We’ve been there once and also hated it. Also thought it was just me as everyone raves about it!

But it’s just not our sort of place I think. We’ve been to so many different French campsites, and every single one was better than that one!

I’m so pleased it’s not just us. I was wondering if we were the strange ones. I thought the pool seemed grubby & the lagoon place was absolutely packed. It is also miles from Paris isn’t it? We’ve been to loads of French campsites & it just isn’t somewhere I would want to go back to.

We went in the way home from a lovely site on the banks of a gorgeous lake. Le Croix said it had a lake too, and we turned up to this sort of man made puddle in the middle 🤣 It was so far away from the lake we’d just left!

also the bakery was awful and plastic.

converseandjeans · 29/03/2025 11:38

@BareBelliedSneetch

Yes it seemed to be a man made lake & was full of Brits drinking. I went in briefly then didn’t fancy going back in!

Oh dear. We're going this summer for a sporting event for DS. His last one was at Butlins in Skegness, which the DC loved until 9yo DD got caught in the middle of a punch-up in the rapids... I've been to Compiègne on a French exchange trip but that was about 30 years ago so I don't remember much about it. Any recommendations for things to do nearby? We'll have our car but we can't go into Paris or to Parc Asterix as we only have 5 hours between dropping off and collecting DS every day.
