Hotel Princesa Playa Menorca

Menorca is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve thanks to its largely untouched landscape of rolling hills and stunning coastline. Outside the hottest months, it's a great location for hill walking and other outdoor pursuits, while in peak summer you can relax on its stunning white sand beaches.

Menorca is also an excellent destination for families. You’ll find shallow waters that are perfect for paddling in, outdoor and water activities like horseback riding and kayaking, and resorts designed with kids in mind.

What Mumsnet users say

"We love it! I have been tempted by the holiday villages but always go back, the restaurant is great and they keep adding new things each year" - recommended by Mumsnet users, Bumblebee78

Our verdict

Zafiro - previously known as Viva Menorca - is without doubt one of the best family hotels on the island. Little ones will love the kids’ pool, complete with a pirate ship and water slides, as well as the kids' club and packed entertainment schedule (and the bouncy castle!).

For grown ups, there are indoor and outdoor pools, a fitness suite, and evening shows.

Meals are served in the buffet restaurant, and there’s the option to book on an all-inclusive, half-board, or self-catering basis. There are plenty of room options too - from apartments to suits and swim-up rooms  - so whatever your preference on holiday, you’ll be covered here.

"Don't go half-board - self catering is much better and the apartments are huge!” - DeanKoontz

If you’re after an affordable base to explore the island from, then Hamilton Court in Santo Tomas offers spacious apartments that sleep up to eight people. These are well-equipped for self-catering, with kitted out kitchens and comfy living spaces.

Located only two minutes from the beach (and just 10 minutes from the airport), guests highly rate the location of this aparthotel. This is one of the more basic choices on our list, but it still offers amenities, such as a kids' club and a swimming pool.

There's also a mini market on site to pick up some snacks and drinks, as well as a restaurant with the option to go half-board or order meals to take back to the apartment.

What Mumsnet users say

"We have just come back and had the most amazing time at Tui Grupotel Majorca Mar in Sa Coma. The accommodation was some of the best I've stayed in, grounds well kept, entertainment excellent, food excellent, directly on the coast." - Mumsnet user, Bluebellsbells

Our verdict

Between Son Xoriguer and Cala n Bosch, this TUI resort is one of the largest in the area and is a fab place to stay with your family.

With four pools, a kids' paddling pool and Son Xoriguer Beach close by, you've got your holiday basics covered. Back on dry land there are plenty of facilities and sports games for active kids.

A kitchenette is included in the one-bedroom apartments, which is convenient for families with small children. Additionally, the hotel offers baby equipment upon request.

There are multi-sports courts, playgrounds and kids’ clubs with structured activities for children aged 3-11. Even teens can make new friends at The Hangout and enjoy some independence during their stay. At the end of a fun-filled day, families can enjoy party nights and West End-style shows from the talented TUI entertainment team.

Nearest airport: Menorca Airport (35 miles)

3. Best luxury hotel: Barceló Nura, Biniancollet

Barcelo Nura luxury hotel Menorca

Check availability: TUI | Hotels.com | Booking.com

Our verdict

Menorca is beautiful, and if you want to enjoy its beauty with a full-on luxury experience, then Barceló Nura is one of the best hotels on the island.

This hotel promises stunning views, gorgeous rooms, and great food. While the hotel does permit children, facilities specifically for children are limited and it would therefore suit trips with older children (or a romantic getaway sans kids!). Room options include access to a semi-private pool.

All-inclusive is available at this hotel, with both a buffet and an a la carte restaurant available, as well as a tapas snack bar. The jewel in the hotel’s crown is its rooftop bar and lounge, with sea views and live music.

Nearest Airport:  Menorca Airport (4 miles)

4. Best hotel with a swimming pool: Sagitario Princesa Playa, Cala'n Bosch

Hotel Princesa Playa Menorca

Check availability: TUI | Booking.com

"Pools were good, had kids' clubs and play areas. Not too far of a walk from the centre which has a harbour and restaurants, bars and shops etc, some of which are in a little square around a bandstand type area with live music, wooh! We stayed in the apartments which were fine, but a little on the small side, but didn’t really spend a lot of time inside!" - recommended by Mumsnet user, Karen03

No hotel in the Balearics is complete without a pool, and Princesa Playa’s is a cracker. As well as the main large, wavy pool with different depths, there’s also a small splash pool and jacuzzi, as well as plenty of sun loungers for those who would rather enjoy the sun than the water.

The hotel is definitely family-friendly, with a kids' club catering to children aged 4 to 12. Daytime entertainment includes water sports, and in the evenings your family can enjoy karaoke, live music, kids' discos, professional shows, and quizzes.

The hotel offers both self-catering and half-board options, with meals served in the buffet restaurant. The location of this hotel is particularly good, being only a short walk from the beach and from the main Cala’n Bosch resort centre.

5. Best hotel on the beach: Sol Falco All Inclusive, Cala'n Bosch

Sol Falco hotel Menorca

Check availability: TUI | Hotels.com | Booking.com

What Mumsnet users say

"We've stayed in Club Falco three times now. One on our own, once with DD1 and once with my folks with us too. I am sooo fussy when it comes to booking a holiday and I can certainly recommend this hotel, for the accommodation and pool. The food is excellent and there's excellent entertainment every night. We love it because it's so close to Cuitadella, which is full of cobbled winding streets, squares and restaurants" - recommended by Mumsnet user, Wondermom

Our verdict

If location and facilities are equally important to you, then Sol Falco has it all.  The hotel is just 250 metres from Son Xoriguer Beach and 700 metres from the Cala'n Bosch marina.

There’s plenty to do even without leaving the grounds. You’ll find seven swimming pools, with an additional children's pool and splash park. There’s also a multi-sports court and games room. There are a few quiet areas for those who would prefer some peace.

Sol Falco is an all-inclusive hotel, with a buffet restaurant and snack bar. At lunchtime the snack bar offers a Mexican-inspired feast to tide you over until dinner. After dinner, you’ll find shows put on in the purpose-built theatre space.

Accommodation options include family rooms, rooms with pool views, and suites.

6. Best apartment hotel: Talayot Apartments, Cala'n Forcat

Talayot Apartments Menorca

Check availability: TUI | Hotels.com | Booking.com

What Mumsnet users say

"Had choice of swimming pools, mini golf, play area, kids' clubs and evening entertainment. The main beach wasn't massive but never got too busy. I wouldn't describe the area as a pretty little villages but it had lots of family friendly restaurants and everything you needed on your doorstep" - recommended by Mumsnet user, starfish4

"We really liked the Talayot Apartments in Cala 'n Forcat, in Menorca. Great pools, rooms are clean (though dated.) The resort itself has seen better days, as there are a few closed bars and restaurants. But, the places that are open are very child friendly. I have read on here that people think the resort is tacky, but personally we loved it" - recommended by Mumsnet user, TolpuddleFarterOATB

Our verdict

Apart-hotels offer a more relaxed environment, and plenty of space to chill out. Talayot offers apartments that sleep up to six, with access to great facilities as part of the package.

There are six swimming pools, including kids' water slides. Children can make friends in the kids' club, and have fun at the evening mini discos. There’s also mini golf and go-karts specifically designed for kids.

Although the apartments are equipped for self-catering, breakfast is included and there’s the option to go half-board. The restaurant also offers food to take away to your room.

Nearest airport: Menorca Airport (24 miles)

7. Best hotel for young children: Occidental Menorca, Punta Prima

Occidental Menorca family hotel

"Lovely modern hotel with family rooms which consist of two linked bedrooms. Kids' swimming pool, mini disco in the evening for the older one, and a short stroll down a hill to a nice beach. Only 20 minutes by taxi from the airport" - recommended by Mumsnet user, UnleashTheBaby

Happy children equals happy parents, and the Occidental hotel provides plenty to keep little ones happy. There’s a splash pool with water slides, as well as a kids' club with a soft play area. There’s also a teens' club for children aged 13 to 17.

For adults, there’s a large pool, tennis courts, and spa facilities. The beach is only four minutes' away.

The hotel offers options to go half board or all-inclusive, with meals served up in a buffet restaurant. Family rooms that sleep up to two adults and three children are available.

Nearest airport: Menorca Airport (4.5 miles)

8. Best hotel for teens: Minura Cala Galdana & Apartamentos d'Aljandar, Cala Galdana

Hotel Cala Galdana Menorca

Check availability: TUI | Hotels.com | Booking.com

What Mumsnet users say

"I've been to Cala Galdana 3 times, last time with DD who was 15 at the time. I love it, and so did she. We did 3 day trips out though. I've stayed in the Hotel Cala Galdana all the times I've been. Like most package tour hotels these days the meals are buffet service so no waiting around" - recommended by Mumsnet user, PAFMO

Our verdict

Family holidays with teens can be tricky, but Menorca is an excellent destination for older children thanks to safe resorts and a range of outdoor activities. Hotel Cala Galdana is only a short walk away from the coastal resort of Cala Galdana, and the bus stop outside the hotel connects to the capital Mahon and Ciutadella, ideal for a day of shopping and sightseeing for teens who want to get out and about.

Inside the hotel, you’ll find two outdoor pools, a gym, and on-site mini market. The hotel also offers daytime and evening entertainment.

The larger apartments include two bathrooms (essential when you’re travelling with mirror-hogging teenagers!), and there’s the option to stay bed and breakfast or half board.

Nearest airport: Menorca Airport (15 miles)
