Camping in the Netherlands

Considering trying camping in the Netherlands instead of our usual France. We’ll be in a tent and ideally looking for private facilities on the pitch.

Has anyone got any recommendations? So far I like the look of De Twee Bruggen, TerSpegelt and De Kleine Wolf. Don’t fancy Duinrell.

We have a 7 year old, looking for good pools but don’t need a full on water park, lake beach would be good and somewhere with stuff going on but not too manic/lively. Countryside or forest type views would be a bonus.

We went to De Twee Bruggen with Eurocamp and LOVED it. Fab place to visit in Germany an hour or so away is Irrland - it's like nowhere else we've ever been.
De Twee Bruggen has a good indoor and outdoor pool with a couple of slides, onsite cafe and lake access nearby. The camping fields for pitching your own were lovely and lots of room and wasn't busy at all last week or August (as Dutch schools have started back by then). Great laundry facilities with card payment. I took a peek in the shower block and all clean and good.
The site had some evening entertainment on too which was great, and we don't "do" entertainment! Lively and in your face is not us at all, and the entertainment was pitched perfectly. Kids loved the park and pump track - can hire bikes etc.
I think it's probably the nicest campsite we've been to and we've been to eurocamping most years for 15 years in France, Italy and Netherlands.

We did a week Eurocamo at TerSpelgt a few years ago. Lovely site (lots of tent camping) around 2 big lakes with a few slides. Nice area. Forest bike rides and lots of other stuff, perfectly suited to primary age kids. Really useful shop on site. DC were 12/15 when we went, probably a bit too old to make the most of the fun stuff on site. 7 is perfect!

Sounds just the sort of place we’re looking for!

Also sounds great… especially bike rides through the forest!

And they are such orderly well behaved campers. I love the different camping vibes of different places!

just a note about Dutch school holidays.

they stagger their holidays by region, so the south might start in June, and the middle counties at the beginning of July and the north at the end.
That then means the return to school is staggered too.

It changes every year, as to who goes early and who goes late.

So it is worth googling when the local schools are on holiday to see if August is quiet or not.

Thanks, I wasn’t aware about the school holidays so will check that out.

will also check out that site suggestion, thanks.
