Eurocamps - experiences and recommendations?

Flopsy145 · 29/07/2024 12:13

I've seen loads of videos on Instagram of Eurocamps and they look a bit too good to be true. I'm very much a look at culture/beach and chill holiday person whereas my DH and kids are very much not and want lots of activities. I feel like some of the camps are great because they have all the stuff for the kids yet still close to nice areas for the odd walk about, beach time or meal out. And they seem pretty affordable.

Are they too good to be true? Does anyone have any recommendations or experiences they could please share?

(Looking for summer 2025)

We have been on quite a few Eurocamp holidays. The sites don't belong to Eurocamp; they have some mobile homes there.

We've always gone for one with an indoor pool - in case weather is poor - and near a town or city we'd like to visit e.g. Paris, Amsterdam. As the children got older, we looked for sites with more activities going on. We also found sites in or on the edge of a town are better because you can walk to places rather then needing to drive everywhere.

All ours have been in Northern Europe but I'd definitely recommend La Croix de Vieux Pont, Domaine des Ormes and Duinrell.

We stayed at a Yelloh campsite in South of France for the first time this year and loved it. It's definitely not Butlins abroad! The site was on a gorgeous beach, had amazing swimming pools and restaurant and bar. We went term time so I think it would be a lot more expensive during school holidays.

Ooh thanks for this thread - am also looking for summer 2025. Would be for me, my 2, dp and his 2 - unless someone else wants to take 4 boys (ages13 - 16) away and he and I will find a romantic hotel 😂

Am looking at Vendee for a short drive but lots seem a bit more toddler / young kid focused or I am missing something?

We have been to Duinrell in Holland, one in Lake Garda, one in Costa Dorada in Spain and we are going to one on the south of France this summer. The accommodation is basic but comfortable. A lot of the cabins have air con which is amazing if it's hot. The beds have real sheets and there are showers in the cabins. We have never done it in a tent, I think it would be much less comfortable. The sites vary but the bigger ones have lots of amenities, shops, restaurants and bars. The pools are usually good with lots of slides. Our kids love them and I think they are quite good value - we usually spend about £3k for accommodation, flights, car hire and food which is much cheaper than a cheap all inclusive and probably not that much less comfortable. The one in Spain was amazing, it had a spa and several really nice places to eat. The one in Holland was probably the most ragged, in terms of fellow campers who were quite noisy and drinking all the time.

ToBoneOrNotToBone · 30/07/2024 09:18

We went to one in lake Garda this year and loved it. We booked direct with the site rather than Eurocamp which meant we were able to get one of the new style villas for the same price eurocamp were offering the basic lodge.

Great pools, plenty of activities and it was waking distance to a supermarket, Gardaland theme park and a train station to go to Milan, Venice or Verona for a day trip. This was ideal for us as we flew and didn't hire a car.

Pippatpip · 30/07/2024 10:34

Look at the Castels et Camping site for lovely sites in France.

La Garangoire is the top place in the Vendee. Book directly with them. Le Pin Parasol is also good.

Les Mouettes in Brittany was nice a long time ago - assume it is still nice and Carantec is lovely.

For a shorter break, Chateaux Les Eaux at Pair Sur Mer is good.

Les Ormes is a mahoosive site with tons going on.

There is another site in the Doubs at a place called Rougemont which was quiet but really lovely. Had a pool and a lake.

Be aware that the nearer you are to a coast, the smaller the pitch sizes and in a static you can hear everything next door so having some space is good. Pitch sizes on the Castels sites tend to be larger.

You don't need to pay for the Instagram page, head to the eurocamp unofficial Facebook page, loads of information and reviews - good and bad. We went to one in France but found booking direct with the campsite was cheaper, bigger accommodation, better located and more space around the cabin. They seem to have gone up loads in price to - eye watering!

@Flopsy145 We flew in and out of Pisa, 1.5 hour drive or train from airport into Pisa then Florence to Figline Valdarno. We hired a car the first time as wanted to travel around a bit in evenings once less hot but didn't bother second time as shuttle bus into Figline (small town few miles away) for trains and market/shops. Both worked out fine, it would be a long drive with at least 1 night stopover each way from ferry ports, probably 2 each way. Have recommended it to loads of friends who've all loved it too.

I'd say £3k is extortionate, I've never paid that for an all inclusive, family of 4 including airport parking and spending money. Different strokes, but I'd never pay that for a glorified caravan holiday where you need to cook and nobody comes to replace your towels or change your sheets.

Have you been on an all inclusive holiday recently because £3000 for a week AI in school holidays seems pretty standard now (flying from Scotland at least!)

Yes, we're just back from Majorca that was £2.2k and we've just booked Tenerife for next July £2.6k, both flying from Edinburgh with Jet2.

RubieChewsDay · 30/07/2024 18:22

Which site in Brittany? We went to Les Ormes last summer and it was fab, loads going on and an indoor pool for when the weather was a bit crap. Also really handy for day trips to St Malo, Normandy beaches and Mont st Michel (although that was a bit touristy for me) and I loved the Saturday market in Dol de Bretagne.

RubieChewsDay · 30/07/2024 18:24

If that is the site you’re looking at, do go to their website as there is a larger range of accommodation than is offered by Eurocamp.

Okay, I am genuinely suprised and perhaps a bit rubbish at finding good deals! Was the hotel decent?

Yes! Fergus club Europa with the Magnus upgrade, it was lovely. A wee walk from town and the beach so it's not on the centre of everything but it had water slides for kids and food was decent.

I'd like to try eurocamp but I just can't swallow those prices for something that looks like it would be hard work, self catering. I have boys 10 and 14 so it costs a fortune to eat out!

redpeachcoralcream · 30/07/2024 18:30

We had loads of these trips when kids were aged about 6-18. Lots to do for all age groups. We found Canvas Holidays cheaper than Eurocamp, for pretty much the same offering. I still feel nostalgic for those trips, we all loved them.

Yes, to be honest, I don't think eurocamp is cheaper than AI during school holidays if you need to fly (no way are we driving to France from Edinburgh, we would disown each other😂)

GoBackToPartyCity · 30/07/2024 18:54

We stayed at Terspegelt, combined with a trip to Efteling and Delft. We booked the ferry from Hull through Eurocamp too. We had an absolutely fantastic time and would recommend it. Happy to answer any questions!

Cazs818 · 30/07/2024 19:09

We stayed on the Italian lakes , lake Garda Bella Italia camp site for 2 weeks , we drove with a over night stop over in Switzerland outbound and Germany inbound, there was so many free things to do that were included lots of nearby excursions , was one of our favourite holidays

Weirdly we have also stayed at this very hotel and were slightly underwhelmed. It really depends what you want. We found it a small hotel and a nightmare to get loungers etc and we went in term time. I would pick eurocamp for space/ freedom but obviously is self catering which isn't everyone's cup of tea!

Ottervision · 30/07/2024 19:30

I will say I didn't pay close to 2 thousand and odd for eurocamp. I paid something like 500 for flights for 4 of us and like 600 odd for the accommodation and not very much to hire a car so it has never been ai prices when I went and from what I've priced up won't be for next year either unless flights are wildly more expensive than this year.

The site we have just been to was like this... loads for toddlers/younger kids in terms of water play areas, less so for older kids. Ours are 10 and 12 and had a great time in the pool, but the teens we saw there mostly just causing havoc for the lifeguards by competing to make the biggest splash jumping into the pool and terrorising the younger children. Teens being teens really 😆

Gooseysgirl · 30/07/2024 19:35

Speaking from bitter experience... book the cabins that have AC included. We won't go with Eurocamp again... the accommodation was completely inferior to others we have stayed at by booking with Yelloh or Sandaya. Definitely join the FB group - they are a hive of knowledge on there!

One thing I really enjoyed at the Yelloh site was having our own (large) decking area with a big sandpit for the kids surrounded by plants. It was a lovely area to chill out in and the kids could be inside having a break from the sun while I sunbathed!
