This was a press release from West Yorkshire police yesterday:-

It's connected to historic offences committed against a single victim from 2003 to 2010.

On the plus side, WYP do now seem to be taking these things more seriously but on the down side this is still from more than ten years ago.

Also, what really got to me about this story was that there were 29 men charged for crimes against the same, single victim.

I can't imagine what her life must have been like as a teenager when the offending was taking place.

Wow, when you read the list of them, most of them have been charged with multiple counts of rape. That poor girl, just 13 when it started.

I worked for Calderdale social services during this time period. I was support staff, not a social worker.

It was well known that grooming gangs were operating. They specifically targeted girls in foster/LA care.

Individual staff cared about it a lot but they didn't have the backing of the local authority or police to tackle it properly. Racial sensitivities was a big part of why it was shied away from.

I suspect that there are very many more than just one victim in this case, and I also suspect that there are more than twenty nine perpetrators. This is what happens when you have a mixture of political correctness, racism and misogyny at work.

Yes, absolutely, but the charge list shows the scale of what these gangs were doing on an individual level as experienced by the victims.

It is just a small, out of date snapshot of one particular time.
People get found out, things evolve.

I don't know. I wasn't privy to child protection meetings or anything of a confidential nature.

I only know there was awareness (and frustration) because of an informal conversation I had one time with a senior protection officer and as in any office you would overhear convo's from time to time.

It was a long time ago now and my memory of that time isn't brilliant so I don't want over state what I know or give the impression I have in depth knowledge.

I do remember that particular conversation though because I found it quite shocking at the time. These men were sitting outside schools in cars waiting for the girls to leave. One of the schools was the one my young sister attended which is probably why it stands out in my memory.

We are not talking about thousands of victims in these cases, we are talking about many tens of thousands. The scale is horrific.

It's tragic but not unexpected. Although the names are interesting. Another grooming gang from West Yorkshire. Nobody is prepared to do anything because of racism claims.

Poor girl and brave woman - brilliant that she feels strong enough to give evidence after all this. What a fine, gutsy woman. Thoughts and prayers as she takes this through the justice system. The men are only charged - she's got the whole trial process ahead of her. I hope she gets justice.

These men are often working - living in the victims community too, imagine seeing your abusers everywhere.

There have been about 80 similar gangs convicted, the vast majority of them in West Yorkshire, Greater Manchester and South Yorkshire. Its reported in local news on a regular basis. Some towns have had 3 or 4 gangs convicted each.

There is another large gang from Calderdale going through the courts ATM, as well as this one

The study chose certain UK towns/regions for data, supposedly to give a countrywide picture, but they chose NOWHERE within West/South Yorkshire and Greater Manchester, where most of these crimes are happening.

The scale is being covered up

Thanks for that post, maybe I should be shocked, but sadly I am not. I knew there would be some sort of cover up.
The problem is, that I struggle to think of any grooming gang composed of white under thirties males who carried out this kind of abuse. I would be only too pleased to be proved wrong.

I'm still appalled that this happened and this bias continues with the latest "report" on the red light zone in Holbeck. The betrayal of the girls and women of West Yorkshire continues.

Actually the "woke" are very into defending the Palestinians.

It's actually Israel that is being hit with lots of rockets (aimed at civilians), and that's why they are fighting back against the Islamist terror group Hamas, which is committed to Israel's destruction.

It isn't that the Palestinian side is completely innocent doing nothing, and big bad bully Israel has just decided to start a fight with them.

Israel wants all of it. They want Palestine to cease to exist.

Looking at the ages of these men, who were youths 20 years ago, or children when I knew about these gangs, I am sure that young men now are being used to lure girls in ,pretending they are boyfriends etc. So we should be looking at the next generations and telling them this not a good career for them. Horrified that this continues, but not surprised.
