Spartacus believes in biology.

Transwomen are biologically male. They are born biologically male and they remain biologically male.

I accept that it must be very hard to suffer from gender dysphoria. I wish transwomen well. I support their right not to be discriminated against in housing, employment and in life in general.

But biology matters. It is biology which means that women in Ireland and across South America and in many other parts of the world are the ones who get pregnant and are then forced to give birth against their will by political systems that deny them the right to abortion. It is biology which enables people in cultures which practice FGM to recognise which babies are female and thus decide which ones' genitals need slicing off with rusty razor blades. It is biology which dictates which foetuses are aborted simply for being female, which infants are allowed to die simply for being female. It is biology which means we are, on average, smaller and less physically strong than men and thus at higher risk of domestic violence up to and including murder (2 a week in this country, into the hundreds in Russia which has recently legalised domestic violence).

I am not prepared to lie about biology. Facts matter. The intersection of facts and political beliefs matters.

This is a hill on which I'm prepared to be banned from Mumsnet.

I am also Spartacus. Well said OP, not that I can really believe that it needs saying at all

AncientLights · 16/04/2018 21:05

I am Spartacus. I believe in biology.

SwearyG · 16/04/2018 21:06

I'm Spartacus too. I will die on this hill.

I agree with every word that @HairyBallTheorem said.

Idontdowindows · 16/04/2018 21:08

I am Spartacus.

Biology is real.

I will die on this hill.

Ritzsaltedcrackers · 16/04/2018 21:08

I agree too. I am not transphobic. I believe transwomen are equal to women, but not the same. I will not be bullied or coerced into lying and saying they are women.

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 16/04/2018 21:08

I am Spartacus Mark 2

I am Spartacus. Biology is reality.

AstraiaLiberty · 16/04/2018 21:17

I am Spartacus.

I respect the rights of individuals to live as they want and call themselves what they like, but they do not have the right to restrict my speech or my thoughts. I do not believe in gendered essences or souls. Men cannot become women. That is a simple statement of fact - one that I won't be pressured into lying about.

Material reality matters.

ReluctantCamper · 16/04/2018 21:20

yes. I am spartacus. I understand that humans cannot change sex.

picklemepopcorn · 16/04/2018 21:20

What have I missed?

picklemepopcorn · 16/04/2018 21:21

I mean, I'm Spartacus, but why are we doing it right now?

Idontdowindows · 16/04/2018 21:21

What have I missed?

Women are being threatened with banning from mumsnet if they won't toe the line and declare that men can be women.

picklemepopcorn · 16/04/2018 21:22

Where?! What?! Who?! I've been out for a couple of hours..,

Trousersdontmakemeaman · 16/04/2018 21:22

Go biology.

I am Sparticus, show me the hill.

ScarletBegonias · 16/04/2018 21:22

I am Spartacus. I recognise that human male cannot become human female and would like to book a bit of space on the hill, please.

Flopsymopsycottontailbuns · 16/04/2018 21:23

Biology is real as acknowledged by Prostate Cancer UK reminding trans women (last week) that they still need their PSA test as still at risk of Prostate Cancer because they are erm male!

HopScotchy · 16/04/2018 21:26

I wish someone would explain why biology 'doesn't matter'. It matters to women. All over these boards you see how much it matters, how much this society is not built for the female sex. How women have to battle to change society to accommodate the role our sex is expected to undertake because of our biology. Women's rights ARE biological rights. The right not to be disadvantaged by our biology and the expectations and stereotypes attached to it. To deny biology is to deny women have a need to change society.

MsMcWoodle · 16/04/2018 21:27

I am Spartacus. Science matters.

RaininSummer · 16/04/2018 21:28

Biology is real. Men cant be women. Women cant be men. Identify however you like and live free from harm but don't make me go along with denying reality. Is there a lot of room on the hill as I think it may get crowded?

Pratchet · 16/04/2018 21:30

I am Spartacus. Female-identified men are men. Male-identified women are women.

Biology is real. Gender identity is not innate.

TeamOrders · 16/04/2018 21:31

I will never call a male 'she'. Ever. I'm Spartacus again.

BakewellTarts · 16/04/2018 21:31

I am a lurker but am also Spartacus. So in awe of the awesome women who run and post on this site. I have learnt so much. Biology is real.

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 16/04/2018 21:31

I support everybody's right to live in the way that they want to and to express themselves in any way that they want to, free from the fear of attack or discrimination.

But biology is real and sex is immutable. As women we need to be able to define ourselves on the basis of our biology because the harms that occur to us occur primarily because of our biology.

tobee · 16/04/2018 21:32

I am Spartacus Smile
