Settling down to watch, and maybe to post. But wishing grand celebrations to everyone who has voted decisively.

I had a silly dream that we'd all refrain from posting tonight until 11, and THEN have a shiny new thread 😁

Report
ommmward · 31/01/2020 21:44

Oh, nb, it wasn't because I wanted to suspend non partisan optimistic political chat. It was because I was looking forward to a topical thread title.

I can cease and desist until morning, but although I voted to Leave, it wasn't emphatically totally enthusiastic. I'd like to rescue some of the good bits from the bonfire, and would chip in financially. So I can''t "celebrate" whole-heartedly. .

There is a celebratory thread over in the Brexit forum if you want it 🙂 no pressure!

Wow. We're out. I live in a remain area, it's half past 11 and I can still hear fireworks.

Amazing.

I'm really glad that Boris name checked the fishing industry in his three minute speech. One of my fears has been that the fishing industry would be left high and dry (sorry), and that would really feel like a betrayal of the coastal communities. But these new conservatives are cannier than that. I begin to have more hope that the fishing industry will be reinvigorated. I certainly didn't think it was on the cards when May was PM. And I have no faith that labour would have thought about it as a priority if they'd won the 2019 election.

Morning, all,

Glad I found you! Thank you to our Landlady, Dusty, for the shiny new thread.

It doesn’t matter what the weather is like outside. Here in the Arms, it’s a bright blue sunny day. ClassicDom, PhwoarDom, FOffDom...all are wonderful in their own way but on this historic morning, we celebrate the most important Dom of all. Freedom.

Yes, we know we are in transition until 31 December but last night, the UK legally left the EU and it’s the dawn of a new era. In the words of the Prime Minister:

“The most important thing to say tonight is that this is not an end but a beginning. This is the moment when the dawn breaks and the curtain goes up on a new act. It is a moment of real national renewal and change.”

My catering contract has been rolled over so it's business as usual. This morning it's the Arms’ special All Day Breakfast Barm. It's our sovereign remedy for hangovers so please help yourselves.

Kettle’s on ☕️☕️☕️

Morning singing... Celebrating freeDOM😂😂 too much 'Dom' confusion for me last night.

Glorious morning.

Of course tv is full of '' we are waking up to an inward looking isolationist UK 🇬🇧 ''

This experience has been an incredible teaching experience for dd.

I'm hunkered down with a stash of loo roll waiting for the zombie apocalypse.

If you can't find anything good to say about Boris at the very least he has a way with words. And he can deliver them (just).

I had unpleasant shivers when they had flash backs to theresa may on TV and corybn.

Lily thanks for breakfast! Lovely to see you, we missed you last night.

Happy Imbolc everyone! Sun is shining outside - Londoners haven’t seen it for weeks. A lovely fragrant spring must be just around the corner!

Although a quick glance at the media would put you right off your....wait, no it won’t.

Morning shiny new thread and thanks to Dusty for all the running about she had to do to move people around last night, at the same time as starting this one. Your hosting skills are exemplary.

Lily I'm very pleased that you have provided All Day Breakfast Barms as I can't really face one just yet Envy (not envy). I'll stick to a strong coffee for now.
How was your evening? Food? Did you survive the journey?
Thanks for the buffet you left for us all. I think Dusty may need to get the terrace sorted out - goodness knows what some of the regulars were doing out there.

The TV coverage was IMO just another big FO to the majority. I genuinely can't work out why the PM's speech wasn't broadcast. Was it Boris' decision or the other way round? Did any channel broadcast it? I've only seen it myself this morning from a FB link someone posted here last night.
We turned over to ch 4 for The Last Leg, for around 30 seconds, just as one of the guests was saying FO to Boris Johnson. Sad

It was a great party in the Brexit Arms, but glad to be back to our new premises in The Westminster, where I know you'll all be holding Boris et al to account as we begin the very difficult months ahead. Thanks all.

Morning All,

Breakfast looks amazing! Loving the FreeDom analogy. On the subject of teachable moments, my DS (13) breezed through last night, took one look at the TV coverage and said, “nutters! anyone would think we were leaving Europe itself, it’s just a political organisation.”

😂😂😂

That’s ma boy! 😂

Glad you asked that Dusty. Blush

And now I know, courtesy of google, that Feb 1 marks the Gaelic Imbolc Festival for the coming of Spring. I have delinquent snowdrops this year so I'm not sure what's going on.

Excellent article by John humphries in the mail.

I don't know how to link. My phone also has no screen shot functions.

Basically talking about the ever power hungry elite driving by in chauffer driven cars with windows more opaque than their accounts.

Whilst elected meps look impotently on.

The relief to be free of these shady dubious gangsters.
Our money going into the black hole of eu corruption!

It's a glorious feeling. We. Are. Liberated.

I'm very much looking forward to holding Boris et all to account, I'm not having another Blair travesty on our hands!

Report
AutumnRose1 · 01/02/2020 10:16

Howabout why are the snowdrops delinquent?

Mum has daffodils, which surprised her muchly.

All the TV was like a disaster broadcast last night, no excuse for it.

Apparently the News outlets were all offered the Boris recording but went in the huff because he wasn't going to do a press pack set piece at the No 10 Lectern - you'd have thought May had done enough of them to last them Shock

There were murmurs about accountability via the MSM but I don't remember Q&As being a thing at No 10 Lectern moments?

Also Laura K has done loads of set piece interviews with Gove and co recently and they haven't been broadcast in main news bulletins. Inconvenient for the BBC when the Govt is no longer a gaff prone leaky dingy.
