Sir Static it is then. If only playing around with his airs and graces were enough to retune him to say something sensible or at the very least engaging.

bellinisurge · 01/02/2020 22:29

I have asked him a question.
And I don't think this pub is quite warm enough yet.

EpicIndividual · 01/02/2020 22:30

I love “Sir Static” 😂

It must be time for one of dusty’s memes!

Arseaboutdarkly · 01/02/2020 22:31

EpicIndividual

Since you brought it up, can you explain why would anyone should need to hide a 'non-partisan politics pub-thread for varied political chit-chat'?

AutumnRose1 · 01/02/2020 22:35

Arse will you mind if I offer an opinion on that?

I just hide threads I find annoying. There was one earlier with a lady who seemed upset but then I found her quite rude, so I just left.

It just seems to me you have to pick what you like on such a massive forum. Some posters have entire sections hidden because the topics bug them.

DustyDiamond · 01/02/2020 22:36

Please stop trying to derail this thread.

It is tedious.

If you have a problem with the thread, then report it to MNHQ.

Epic, I had forgotten Sir Static, but, yes suits him better.
I have asked him two questions. Bet he won't respond.
There is a lot of fawning going on in the questions thread.

EpicIndividual · 01/02/2020 22:39

I haven’t even looked TBH Copper, with all the recent distractions, it’s all white noise to me! 😉😂

ommmward · 01/02/2020 22:42

Just saw that Boris is "concerned" that the EU has been moving the goal posts on the trade deal he thought they were on the way towards. Obviously, it doesn't matter whether they have or haven't, or what they all said to each other back in the autumn - I suppose it's predictable that the gamesmanship (and brinkmanship) over trade negotiations starts in earnest now. Believe nothing any of them say, and the proof of the pudding will emerge as the year winds on. I wish there was a way of lowering the temperature on it all for a bit, to give those disappointed in December some time to get their heads around Brexit actually happening, but I appreciate that that would be terrible for both the UK and the EU who need to get set up for the bit beyond the transition period. And maybe it wouldn't help, anyway.

Arseaboutdarkly · 01/02/2020 22:42

DustyDiamond
Stop falsely accusing me of derailing the thread, I am discussing the very title of the thread itself with particular respect to the claim to be Non Partisan. If you have a problem with my posts report them to MNHQ

AutumnRose1
Of course you can offer your opinion, i certainly don't mind, but it doesn't answer the question i put - ie why anyone would feel the need to hide a Non Partisan politics thread.

Here in remainerville, I still encounter constant comments from people - who naturally assume that I am ardently pro EU - that just gently signal to all around that it's all a disaster and they are still resisting it, and don't want to be associated with Brexit In Any Way. Will that just quietly peter out as the months go by and disaster doesn't strike? Maybe we have to wait a while, to be well beyond the transition period, and to give the EU time to shake down into whatever it wants to turn into next, before the new normal becomes meh just normal.

I'm still praying that the fishing industry gets protected in the negotiations.

SingingLily · 01/02/2020 22:48

I was made redundant by Derek Hatton's Militant Tendency

I'm sorry to hear that, Copper. So was my aunt and two of my cousins. To make matters worse, their redundancy notices were delivered by taxi, all at council taxpayers' expense. Don't worry too much about Degsy joining the Labour Party again. In fairness, they withdrew his membership (again) after 48 hours. Clearly there's some sort of sifting process at work now.

Xing, great news about your DS!

Epic, same here, busy day doing family stuff or I would have called in sooner. Yes, a Dusty meme would be just the thing although I did keep a copy of the Telegraph cartoon about the Labour leadership hopefuls and it's still relevant so will post it here.

Hospitality, do you think we might need a Rishi Sunak corner in the snug too? I'm telling you, that lad is on the ascendancy.

Ommmward, I've just had a sneak preview of the Telegraph article about that very matter and will post a precis tomorrow.

Dusty, great advice from MNHQ as always.

I haven't looked at the #Static questions thread yet - will have a 👀 later....

I've no questions for him tbh - I just find him so bland & boring Confused

“Just saw that Boris is "concerned" that the EU has been moving the goal posts on the trade deal he thought they were on the way towards.”

As expected! It’s going to get bumpy again folks! but, all negotiations are undertaken using power plays, so I don’t doubt this will run right up until the 11th hour, with a lot of sharp elbow tactics from either side. What fun! 😉

TBH, an extension would not surprise me, and I have felt that way for months. But we will see, as ever.

ommmward · 01/02/2020 22:52

Please do post a precis!! I'd be so grateful. I'm too mean to subscribe to any of the papers, so I glean my news in scraps 😁

ommmward · 01/02/2020 22:53

The eleventh hour, epic?? Dream on. Try the 59th second of the 59th minute of the eleventh hour (and yes, I have experience of Brussels bureaucracy, and yes, it is always always always like that)

EpicIndividual · 01/02/2020 22:53

“The eleventh hour, epic?? Dream on. Try the 59th second of the 59th minute of the eleventh hour (and yes, I have experience of Brussels bureaucracy, and yes, it is always always always like that)”

😂😂😂

bellinisurge · 01/02/2020 22:55

Johnson probably will cave in at the last minute. Like he did last time.

WeSavedSallySally · 01/02/2020 22:57

Copper, good questions.

I agree we 100 %need good opposition but right now at this point in time and for at least a year I would be rather have one strong party to get us through.

3 years of whimsical, pointless, going absolutely no where chittering in commons.. I've had enough 😂 I want clear, no nonsense decisive leadership.

Like goves plain no.

To kay burley on fishing rights

It's what we desperately need after 3 years trying to negotiate with desperate Remainers on one ankle and half hearted placating, on the the other.

The eu are as ever boxed in by continuing to make leaving painful for us.

Balanced with economy pressures, pressure from the business, and growing disappointment across the the eu...

Next year when we have lots of deals an we already set up as it were.... Roughly back on track to focus on health and education.. Then... I'd like a strong opposition.

SingingLily · 01/02/2020 22:57

I'm still of the mine there will be no extension, Epic, but I'm quite cheered by the update in the Telegraph about progress already made globally so I'm seeing the Boris/EU thing as more of an early stand-off. They still think they're dealing with Timid Theresa, albeit with a blond mop of hair.

Wrong! Boris is - to coin a popular MN phrase - getting his ducks in a row. He might even LTBs Grin

Better to have the row now, early on, than halfway through the eleven months.

Once I've marshalled my thoughts (and reread a couple of articles to make sure I've got them right), I'll post tomorrow.

We always knew this extension period would be bumpy.

SingingLily · 01/02/2020 22:58

Oops, of the mind, not of the "mine".

Flaming autocorrect!

Coppersulphate · 01/02/2020 23:01

Singing, my redundancy notice also came by taxi. The black cabs were driving around the City.i think if the trade deals are held up Boris will leave without a deal.
Then there would be a deal! 😉
Do you think I could manage another 🍷before retiring for the night. Working early tomorrow.
Night all.
Stay calm

SingingLily · 01/02/2020 23:02

🍷 Copper, and sleep well. Degsy was a complete and utter disgrace by the way.

🍷🍷🍷 or 🍸🍸🍸for anyone who needs a drink.

WeSavedSallySally · 01/02/2020 23:03

Ommmm

Have you seen the clip of gove responding to kay burly about that. AGAIN! so sorry I can't link.

I certainly feel very reassured by it.
I'm happy to march fir the fisherman if they renegade on it but he was so unequivocal I honestly feel very reassured.

Apparently every deal has been scrutinised, from eu to other countries.
