I have no idea how Dusty and Epic did it. That was a master stroke of organisation by both of them. By way of penance, though, I've swept and cleared up the terrace. What on earth was in that rucksack?
The dinner event was well attended and the food was good; most of it sourced from the West Country, I’m pleased to say. I didn’t have a glass of the English wine (designated driver and teetotal anyway) and it’s hard to say whether it met Mr Lily’s standards because he had to keep filling his glass to make further checks.
Robert Buckland is an engaging speaker - lovely Welsh lilt - but quite serious. You’ll never see him dangling from a bungee rope like his boss. He’s very keen on building a new super-prison in Wales so I had a very brief chat with him about that. He didn’t flicker when I asked him to pass a message on to Dom, just nodded and promised he would.
Oh to be a fly on that particular wall!
I did think about you when we were toasting the future at 11pm. There was a sense of “we did it” but also a real feeling of “now let’s roll up our sleeves and get to work”.
Glad to get home though. The roads are already much safer!
Here's a thought, though. Overnight, I’ve become a Remainer. After all, nearly twelve hours ago, the UK legally became an independent country once more and I want us to remain that way.
Anyone who wants us to leave our independence and sovereignty behind and join the EU, had better get used to being called a Leaver.
