Lily not as s—l—o—w as I am!

mummmy2017 · 01/02/2020 12:45

The unhappy leavers are going to lose their nuts over the next 11 months.
Some are so bitter about it all.

SilverySurfer · 01/02/2020 12:49

I agree about Boris Mary I'm pleasantly surprised. I didn't vote for him to be leader but think he's doing well.

AutumnRose1 · 01/02/2020 12:51

mummy yes, it’s not even lunchtime and I’m sick of them already.

Every bad thing that happens now will be blamed on Brexit.

I give it till the end of the month before we have Rejoiners marching.

MarySidney · 01/02/2020 13:05

I agree about Boris Mary I'm pleasantly surprised. I didn't vote for him to be leader but think he's doing well.

He may yet make some dreadful blunder. But when you look at who, or what, the alternatives were, there wasn't a great deal of choice.

There's a letter in today's Telegraph suggesting that MPs have got too used to having all the important things decided in Brussels, and have become mediocre. Now they're going to have to up their game, and we may see some politicians of real stature emerge in consequence, which can only be a good thing, the writer suggested.

I have to agree that there are few if any current or recent MPs who stand comparison with any of the great Parliamentarians of the past.

mummmy2017 · 01/02/2020 13:12

They are no longer Remainers, they are to be called unhappys. As the R word is now a swear word.

DustyDiamond · 01/02/2020 13:24

Thank you Dusty for co-ordinating dual threads.

Thank goodness for the @ function 😂😂

I unfortunately missed some people as they hadn't posted on the thread I was frantically scrolling through to find names 😩

I'm shocked that I've enough champagne left over to have with lunch today.

I have none left 😳
The kids told me this morning they'd only had a half glass each - I'd necked the rest...

The unhappy leavers are going to lose their nuts over the next 11 months.

Even more so if we point out we are the Remainers now, mummmy. I've just told Mr Lily that's what he became when the clock struck eleven last night. He's now wandering round, clutching his head and wailing, "How much did I actually drink last night".

Mary, absolutely agree. The days of ministers and MPs stealing a living and blaming the EU for not allowing them to get things done are all gone now.

I'm keeping my eye on Rishi Sunak, Alok Sharma and Therese Coffey, simply because they seem to have consistent values, think on their feet and deal politely and firmly with everyday nonsense.

I once watched Kay Burley ask Rishi Sunak over and over to explain Sajid Javid's decision to defer reducing the deficit in favour of more investment in infrastructure. She kept talking over him and insisting, with her usual brand of charm, that she didn't understand his answer. At one stage, the camera pulled back to show her busily scrolling through her phone while Rishi Sunak calmly and politely explained over and over. He must have been as irritated as hell but he didn't show it. The man has the patience of a saint. I think he's got a lot of potential.

Think you deserved it, Dusty! If I think of any more, I'll @ them to come over here.

SingingLily · 01/02/2020 13:41

In no particular order...

Here we are...the Landlady has lined up welcome drinks for you.

BoswellSolver · 01/02/2020 13:44

Thanks Singing! Can I have a large pot of tea? Got lots of catching up to do, what with the UK still here and not floating off across the pond, or evaporating into a fog of bitter tears...I forget the exact predictions from project fear 😅

MarySidney · 01/02/2020 13:57

I don't think I've heard of the first two. I will look out for them.

One thing I think Boris could do is stop, or limit, the practice of announcing things to the media before they're announced in the Commons. It really makes the Commons irrelevant when everyone knows what the Minister's going to say before s/he has said it, and it's already been thrashed out on Breakfast TV.

That, and insisting on good standards of behaviour in the Commons from his own side, I think would help to focus attention on the Commons for the right reasons and repair some of the damage that was done to its reputation last year.

SingingLily · 01/02/2020 14:04

Well that's old news, Boswell. Project Fear Mk II starts today. Apparently, Michael Gove is planning to arbitrarily recall all burgundy passports and replace them with blue ones at a cost to the passport holders of £

Much wailing and gnashing of teeth on FB.

Forgot to mention, Autumn - Rejoin started at 11am this morning with a big rally in Chester. I've just looked at the photo and I counted 18, although to be fair, it's hard to tell. Some looked like passers-by with shopping bags. I do hope they wrapped up warm. They looked so miserable.

I agree, Mary. I think ClassicDom is already on to it. In any case, there is already an indication of the firm smack of Cabinet discipline. The Saj apparently got pulled sharply back into line over HS2.

hospitalityinspector · 01/02/2020 17:00

We've expressed our like for Rishi Sunak a few times Lily. He comes across very well.

Therese Coffey didn't get much approval for her remarks about food banks in response to Zarah Sultana. TC described food banks as the perfect way to support vulnerable people.

Not sure who Alok Sharma is. Was he on with Alaister Campbell (who?Grin ) and Rachel Johnson last night? I'd had a few by then. I'll watch out for him.

Totally agree there Mary. We know the contents of every speech or announcement hours in advance. Why on earth do they do that?

time4chocolate · 01/02/2020 17:32

Love the shiny new thread Dusty thanks.

Hope everyone enjoyed yesterday evening and are taking it a bit easy today. Onwards and upwards now but plenty to keep our beady eyes on as things progress - ClassicDom is certainly going to ruffle some rather large feathers.

I’m not up to speed with Alok Sharma either, if he was on the panel I have to confess as soon as I saw Alastair Campbell in the line up I switched over.

Arseaboutdarkly · 01/02/2020 18:31

They are no longer Remainers, they are to be called unhappys. As the R word is now a swear word.

Is that the order from above? We'll see...

Why do you need two threads of this stuff?? Confused

howabout · 01/02/2020 18:46

Anyone fed up with continual negativity should head over to No10's UK Prime Minister twitter feed. They followed people's PMQs with children's PMQs - the kids asked great questions about schools and the green revolution etc and Boris did a fab job on proper engaging answers (I was doing a bit of this with teens last week - it's not easy).

The best bit though is afterwards when no10 interview the children about what they think about the UK. Made me very proud of them and their positive outlook on our country - I'm guessing they don't watch much MSM or they're having a massive anti-establishment rebellion. Grin

WeSavedSallySally · 01/02/2020 19:04

Time and time and time aging history teaches us, you can't pull the wool over people's eyes.

So much for the youth quake. Teenagers I've heard discussing brexit have been no different to anywhere else.

Some leavers, different reasons (one spouted pensions 😂) Remainers, different reasons (because holidays will be more expensive ).

I see #thick is trending on twitter and that poor lady I saw interviewed is being vilified by the so called intellectuals.

SilverySurfer · 01/02/2020 19:06

Arseaboutdarkly

Why do you need two threads of this stuff??

We couldn't fit all the champagne and food into just one Grin

I've noticed a few posters complaining because they wanted to remain European. Unless we have been cast adrift from the continental shelf surely we have always been and will always be European which has nothing to do with the EU.

WeSavedSallySally · 01/02/2020 19:10

Silvery it's crazy.

I had neighbours catch me coming home, first thing they said '' so... How will you be commiserating tonight? We're having an eu inspired dinner and playing ode to joy ''

I have lost count the times I've been spoken at with the assumption I'm a remainer!

No wonder it's all been such a shock to these people.

WeSavedSallySally · 01/02/2020 19:12

Fabulous vibes coming from Gove on fishing.

Clip of him responding to sky woman is classic.

SilverySurfer · 01/02/2020 19:16

Ode to Joy? Sounds more like they need a nice dirge lol.

The other thing that's made me laugh are several posters who are inconsolable because they need a new passport and they are having the vapours at the thought of it being blue instead of red. You couldn't make this stuff up Grin

WeSavedSallySally · 01/02/2020 19:19

Tbh I'd grab the op to redesign the passport altogether.

Coppersulphate · 01/02/2020 19:32

A very good evening everyone.
Just got back.
Still hasn't fully sunk in.
I was with a Bulgarian friend at work today and some asked him how he felt
"Great" he said. " I voted Leave, don't make assumptions"
He is a UK citizen.
Brilliant.

Thank you Dusty and Epic for managing all manoeuvres last night. It was a really good lock in.
The security on the door needs a special mention. They did a sterling job.

And, of course to Singing for the amazing buffet she left for us and for the all day breakfast today.

I am off to tuck in and have a 🍷
Anyone else need topping up?

XingMing · 01/02/2020 20:03

might as well have more Wine I suppose. We are just thrilled that DS has got his first choice of uni... it's rather eclipsed everything else this week TBH.

WeSavedSallySally · 01/02/2020 20:06

Same here copper!!!

Hasn't sunk in yet.
Unfortunately the vitriol I've seen on here and twitter is worse than ever!!

I can't get my head round it.
