It's driving me crazy grin

Here's a link to the John Lewis advert- take a look at the old movie showing on the television at 1 minute in, please.

Everybody thinks it's from It's A Wonderful Life, the embrace you can see at 3:21 in this clip:

But it really really isn't.

Its a wonderful life ?

BOFster Fri 07-Nov-14 19:34:38

Nooooooooooo grin

<chucks Stuff unceremoniously off thread>

Look! Look at the link. It's not Donna Reed, and it's not from that film.

Incidentally, I just watched the whole YouTube clip from IAWL and cried my eyes out for the hundredth time grin

Ha ha, great first answer!
I've no idea, but maybe you could tweet john Lewis and ask them?

I thought it was It's A Wonderful Life too. I'll have to look again now.

The Bishop's Wife?

Annunziata Fri 07-Nov-14 19:37:42

Is it the one with the plane and the bar and We'll always have Paris?

Girlwhowearsglasses Fri 07-Nov-14 19:37:43

Maybe it's faked up and they could to get clearance?

HearMyRoar Fri 07-Nov-14 19:41:13

You mean Gone With the Wind Ann?

Gremlingirl Fri 07-Nov-14 19:42:19

I don't they had planes in Gone With The Wind! You mean Casablanca, I think.

BOFster Fri 07-Nov-14 19:43:45

Ooh, I'll have to look up The Bishop's Wife now.

Interesting that it might be made up, I hadn't thought of that...

I have tweeted, but to no avail sad

She looks far too happy for a start, Donna Reed is overcome by a mixture of anger, relief and the raging horn at that point surely. gringringrin

Xiomara Fri 07-Nov-14 19:44:31

I don't think it's Casablanca because the man isn't wearing a coat.

BOFster Fri 07-Nov-14 19:45:37

It's not Casablanca either- that was Ingrid Bergman, and I know I'd recognise her.

I can't say I recognise the actress, but mini on another thread suggested Barbara Stanwyk, and she does look pretty similar. Hmm.

Trapper Fri 07-Nov-14 19:48:04

Looks like Cary Grant and Ingrid Bergman kissing on the balcony to me.

Girlwhowearsglasses Fri 07-Nov-14 19:52:51

It's not that I don't think - I'd have to see proper screen shots but the version of IAWL he's got a child hanging off him in shot. They could have cropped the shot for be as though. Pretty sure you're meant to think it's that film

TheWoollybacksWife Fri 07-Nov-14 19:54:12

It doesn't look like Loretta Young so I don't think it is the Bishop's wife.

BOFster Fri 07-Nov-14 19:55:12

It isn't Bergman though, and the man's neck isn't thickset enough to be Cary Grant.

Trapper Fri 07-Nov-14 19:55:57

Maybe not then. The plot thickens!

DoughnutSelfie Fri 07-Nov-14 19:56:56

I thought The Bishops Wife but nope

Still wracking brains

Xiomara Fri 07-Nov-14 19:57:12

The clothes the man is wearing are wrong for Cary Grant too.

BOFster Fri 07-Nov-14 20:08:16

Trapper, I think this is the kiss you mean! and it isn't it. But my word it's fantastic grin

wingcommandergallic Fri 07-Nov-14 20:08:47

Miracle on 34th Street. Sure of it.

My autocorrect seems to delight in inserting random exclamation marks. I think it's trying to tell me I've used them too often angry
