It's driving me crazy Grin

Here's a link to the John Lewis advert- take a look at the old movie showing on the television at 1 minute in, please.

Everybody thinks it's from It's A Wonderful Life, the embrace you can see at 3:21 in this clip:

But it really really isn't.

I'll have 50p on it being a mock up.

I did snigger a bit at "Is it the Lion King?" Grin

BOFster · 07/11/2014 22:29

It's the obvious choice, yep. But it's still wrong Grin

Okay, I do vaguely recognise the face but don't know who she is. I'm more of a pre-war film fan

OttiliaVonBCup · 07/11/2014 22:30

No, look at those eyebrow arches.

OttiliaVonBCup · 07/11/2014 22:31

It's niggling on me.

jimmybim · 07/11/2014 22:35

Could it be Margaret Lockwood? She was in Love Story with Stewart Granger

Girlwhowearsglasses · 07/11/2014 22:36

Yes but they may have been refused the clip.

Or - as we've found, they might have found it difficult to find the right clip of a film with such a simple and uncomplicated shot. Looking at some of these films its actually quite difficult to find something comparable even with the wrong people

WhenDoISleep · 07/11/2014 22:47

There is a similar looking kiss at 2.39 in compilation, shot from the opposite angle.

BOFster · 07/11/2014 22:52

Margaret Lockwood had quite a noticeable mole on her upper cheek though. Possibly...

It's none of those, When. But I stand corrected on From Here To Eternity being in colour.

Young Barbara Stanwyck?

ZingOfSeven · 07/11/2014 23:04

oh ok I'll put you out of your misery - it's me. and DH.
Grin

BOFster · 07/11/2014 23:11

Zing Grin

cerealqueen, she's definitely a contender, but we haven't located a plausible film or found the clip to test the theory. The jury's out.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 07/11/2014 23:17

Ok folks here is the moment you have been waiting for. The definitive answer from DH:

"If it isn't a mock up of the IAWL scene, then I'd say the male actor looks like Ronald Reagan or Tyrone Power. He looks to be wearing pyjamas or an unstructured shirt like that so I wonder if it's a scene from King's Row with Ronald Reagan and Ann Sheridan. Alternatively, a scene from Knute Rockne, All American. Less likely to be that, but Reagan spent a lot of screen time in pyjamas there playing "the Gipper"."

So that clears that up then. Hmm

BOFster · 07/11/2014 23:20

I like his King's Row hypothesis- I may watch it again just to see the "Where's the rest of me?!" scene Grin

OP posts:
LouiseBrooks · 07/11/2014 23:22

I've seen King's Row but it doesn't look anything like Anne Sheridan to me.

Gale Page was in the other one (never head of her but just googled) - it does look a bit more like her.

BOFster · 07/11/2014 23:23

Yes, Ann Sheridan is all wrong. I did try that Christmas film with Gale Storm (they are blurring into one now), but I couldn't see a scene that would fit.

OP posts:
BOFster · 07/11/2014 23:24

Gale Storm? This is exhausting me, clearly...

I just imagine some poor intern at the ad agency JL use:

"We need that kissing scene from IAWL. But not that scene itself. One with a better close up. And lose thr kid. But the actress has to look like Donna Reed. But less famous. We only have £3.89 to pay for the rights. Now get cracking".

LouiseBrooks · 07/11/2014 23:27

It does look a bit like Ty Power but I can't see enough of him to be sure. I've tried googling his leading ladies but found no one who looks like the girl in the clip.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 07/11/2014 23:28

*the kid

Awks · 07/11/2014 23:37

That's def her porn name Grin

Halsall · 07/11/2014 23:48

Hmm. I agree with snice upthread - Montgomery Clift and Donna Reed in From Here to Eternity. If not an actual still from the film (copyright restrictions?), it could be a mock-up of a shot from it with look-alikes. I notice that they don't really show the man. But the angle of his face and jaw looks mighty like Montgomery Clift to me, that was my first thought before I saw that snice had beaten me to it!

Halsall · 07/11/2014 23:49

Oh, and definitely not It's a Wonderful Life. That's just silly.

ZingOfSeven · 07/11/2014 23:54

where is bloody Sherlock in BOF's time of need?
