From back in Decemeber:

'This shouldn’t get lost in the avalanche of crazy. The wall we need is between DOJ and the White House. The foundation of our democracy- the rule of law- depends on it.' Sally Q. Yates.

This tweet aged like a wonderful bottle of whiskey🥃, or 🍷.

The tweet’s dated 10/22/2012:

“Don’t let Obama play the Iran card in order to start a war in order to get elected - -be careful Republicans”.
-Donald J. Trump

Trump says that the “J” in his name is for genius

Across, I hadn't realised Elaine Chao was Mrs Mitch McConnell. Don't know how I missed that, but there's such a whirl of nepotistic appointees with their hands in the cookie jar I guess she was just one among many.

Guess the Orange Menace is coming to Calif today to 'fundraise'. Thank God, none of his ridiculous 'rallies'. His itinerary is so hush hush that you can't find specific details other than the cities he's visiting. If you look at events it says 'details provided with RSVP' (and payment). That's how terrified he is of protesters.

I thought I'd read that he was coming to Sacramento and we were getting all geared up.....but I can't see anywhere that Sac will be on his list.

I really feel for the LA commuters. They won't even say what freeways his motorcade is going to impact so the LAPD can put out 'avoid these areas' notices.

Flowers Across.

Did I mention I passed the Trump motorcade when he visited here for the D-Day commemorations? I was heading down the opposite side of the motorway and could only manage a small gesture of appreciation for the great things he's done to the US and the planet.

Radioactive Spicer:

'In order to compensate for [his] major deficiencies, Spicer relied on the same tactics he used during his unsuccessful stint as White House press secretary: distraction and obfuscation. Dressed ridiculously in baggy white pants and a shirt the color of Willy Wonka’s industrial waste, Spicer first appears slapping excitedly at some bongo drums as the tune from “Spice Up Your Life” revs up, marking the first time in the ordeal to follow that I would pray quietly for death.

Yeah. I was going to catch the afternoon ferry to Sweden from Helsinki on 16th July last year. They had closed Helsinki for the Orange One, and we couldn't get to the port; we had to sit in the car in the sun for four hours (not knowing whether we would be allowed to get to the boat at all) until he had been cleared out of the way. The only people who looked more fed up than the other car-occupiers were the Helsinki police, who were embarrassed as well as annoyed.

I have never heard so much anti-Trump sentiment voiced by so many ordinary people trying to get on with their ordinary lives as we did that day. Most Finns speak English, and they were not stinting their opinions, especially when they knew we were British by the numberplates, and therefore needed to be Told.

Trump Cringingly Courts Latino Vote: “Who Do You Like More, the Country or the Hispanics?”

At one point, Trump called out Steve Cortes, who serves as a member of Trump’s Hispanic Advisory Council, from the podium. “He happens to be Hispanic, but I’ve never quite figured it out, because he looks more like a WASP than I do,” Trump said. “But I tell you what, there is nobody that loves his country more or is Hispanic more than Steve Cortes.” Oof, Trump talks about race like a tanked grandpa at Thanksgiving.

Sounds familiar:

www.theguardian.com/world/2019/sep/17/benjamin-netanyahu-in-close-fight-for-survival-in-israeli-election

'The 69-year-old leader is fighting not only for his political life but also his freedom. Pre-trial hearings for three corruption cases against him are just weeks away and a majority in the 120-seat parliament could help grant him immunity from prosecution.'

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia seems slightly less keen than President Trump and his merry men to blame Iran for the drone-strike on them last week; there was an interview today on the World Service with the Saudi ambassador to London, and he was clearly not favouring retaliation against Iran.

The Houthis have claimed and continue to claim that they did it, and that it is a continuation of a campaign that has been going on for a while. "According to the data compiled by FDD’s Long War Journal, the Houthis have launched 58 drone strikes in Saudi Arabia and a further eight inside Yemen. A disputed strike has also been claimed inside the United Arab Emirates. " according to www.longwarjournal.org/archives/2019/08/analysis-houthi-drone-strikes-in-saudi-arabia-and-yemen.php

When Saudi nationals destroyed the twin towers, America invaded Iraq. I really hope that on this occasion they don't similarly attack a third party which has nothing to do with an act of aggression, using that act as their pretext for their own aggression and interference in other peoples' countries. Trump and co have been looking for an excuse to attack Iran for a while now. But it's interesting that the Saudis might not be as keen as America at this time.
