From back in Decemeber:

'This shouldn’t get lost in the avalanche of crazy. The wall we need is between DOJ and the White House. The foundation of our democracy- the rule of law- depends on it.' Sally Q. Yates.

I guess it's his way of trying replace those hideous comments about the death of bhagdadi with a jokey dog theme.

I was referring, of course, to General J..N.. Mattis. 45 really should not have called him 'overrated'.

AcrossthePond55 · 31/10/2019 00:07

What the HELL is that picture all about? OMG, that's something a 13 year old would do!

Oh yeah, guess it's the only way to get himself into a picture with an American Hero.

Today is the vote in the full House on impeachment. This vote is on procedures for impeachment and public hearings. Proceedings start at 9am EDT with debate for one hour, followed by the vote around 10am EDT.

cozietoesie · 31/10/2019 13:06

Thanks for the 'heads up '.

PerkingFaintly · 31/10/2019 14:03

I shall do very very cautious optimism...

AcrossthePond55 · 31/10/2019 15:31

Vote appears has gone along party lines. It has passed.

Dems 232 yea, 2, nay 1 no vote
GOP 0 aye, 196 nay, 3 no vote
Indep yea 1

No idea who the 2 Dem nays are

AcrossthePond55 · 31/10/2019 15:34

Vote HAS gone....that should read.

Also per CNN "Democratic Rep. Collin Peterson from Minnesota and Rep. Jeff Van Drew from New Jersey voted against moving forward", but nothing about why.

AcrossthePond55 · 31/10/2019 15:36

Also per CNN:

"The working theory among Democrats is there will be another week or two of closed depositions — and that public hearings before the House Intelligence Committee could begin as soon as the second week in November."

Bolding mine.

cozietoesie · 31/10/2019 16:01

.........second week in November?

AcrossthePond55 · 31/10/2019 16:36

Yep. What remains to be seen is whether or not the hearings will be televised.

Nixon's impeachment never got this far as he resigned before the articles were voted on. I honestly don't remember if Clinton's House hearings were televised (probably because I was working) but I do remember the Senate deliberated in private. I remember the Senate vote being televised and watching it at work.

If they do televise, it will be 'must see TV', I'm sure.

We are going to need another thread if anyone has something up a sleeve. Smile

I'm not sure how this part is decided.

Oh my.

www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/trump-lawrence-jc-van-dyke-senate-judiciary-committee-lgbt-aba-a9179611.html

'A Trump administration nominee for a federal appeals court broke down in tears during his confirmation hearing with the Senate Judiciary Committee after being eviscerated in a letter from the American Bar Association.

Lawrence JC VanDyke reacted strongly to the American Bar Association’s (ABA) assessment of his fitness for office, which said that many people who had worked with him described him as “arrogant, lazy, an ideologue, and lacking in knowledge of the day-today practice including procedural rules.”'

I thought that was pretty much a proof of suitability under the current administration. The sine qua non. The wailing and gnashing of teeth seems to be fairly popular these days too. Wot no rending of garments, or are they building up to that?

AcrossthePond55 · 31/10/2019 18:19

Thanks for the info lion!! The Wa-Po is behind a paywall for me, but I appreciate you posting the relevant quote from the article. I'm going to have to try the Wa-Po in 'private' mode.

I expect the hearings will be televised on C-SPAN at the very least.

If no one minds, I'll start a new thread. Going to check now to see if one's already been started.
