AIBU?

To buy my DS a dress?

I've one DS, he is my first & last (traumatic birth).

He's only 10 weeks so is still quite neutral I.E you can't necessarily tell he's a boy yet!

I think dresses are lovely & as I don't follow this gender society crap of girls wear dresses & pink & boys wear blue & trousers.....I don't see the issue in putting my DS in a dress.

However, everyone else thinks it's wrong!

Is it??

If he was 3 and asking for a dress I would.
Newborn, no, I wouldn't.

Sounds to me like you're just doing it to make some sort of point, so I think YABU.

YABU. You're making a decision that he has no say over. Quite an important one actually.

I didn't put my daughters in dresses until they were walking as they just get bunched up when they're laying or crawling and if you're buying for the pattern/ prettinness it gets lost being all scrunched up.

It sounds to me like you wanted a daughter.

If he was asking for a dress, that's one thing. But that's not what this is.

Dresses are pointless for tinies.

Knock yourself out but don't get all annoyed and huffy if people will assume he's a girl,or comment on it.

YABU. Dresses are impractical for babies anyway. He's tiny - put him in a sleepsuit so he's comfortable.

Oh and pp is right fussy clothes on boys or girls at that age are pretty pointless.

10 weeks? Just babygros. Why would you bother with any other clothes. Dresses are horribly impractical and uncomfortable. Until they are walking.

Yes, stick him in a dress if you want. Additional benefit is that it'll make nappy changing easier!

When I started work - about 25 years ago - people brought in baby photos for a "guess who?" game and a man who retired shortly after I started brought in a picture of himself as a young toddler with gorgeous ringlets and a lacy dress! Apparently that was the way little boys were dressed then

He won the game because no one guessed it was him!

I'm not sure why you would want to and if you don't give a crap why are you asking?

phoenixtherabbit · 10/06/2017 21:36

I don't get why you want to put him in a dress?

As much as you don't buy into the gender crap, by putting him in a dress you're sort of taking that decision of whether to follow it away from him?

If you want to dress him gender neutral then dress him in white baby grows.

You don't put babies in dresses, ffs! You're just trying to make a point and sounding a bit daft.

A woman in my home town dressed up her son as a little girl from him being small, and the man ended up with a lifetime of MH issues.

Yes people might be now challenging gender stereotypes and dress, but that's for them to decide.
Plus, if you did that everyone would just think you were suffering gender disappointment and so trying to make your Son into the Daughter you actually wanted.
Is this the case?

For a 10 week old, dresses are incredibly impractical soon can only assume you'd be doing to make a point in which case YABU. But yaknow, your bubs; your rules so crack on.
