DH should be 42 today

It’s not that old, is it? He died of cancer aged 37.

I’ve tried to mark it well. But my word, I miss him.

My eldest is struggling in various ways and takes it all out on me of course. This evening was no exception.

I try so hard. I’m very tired.

I wish I could’ve taken DH out for tea like we did in the olden days.

He was a slight man, not greedy, but loved good food. So he’d always debate over having steak or fish as main “because I love steak but I do really want fish, but the problem with having fish is they think you want a lighter meal, but I don’t!”

I would suggest a fish starter then steak main, which was usually what happened

I'm so sorry. That was way way too young for him to die.

Right now I’d be having pudding and he’d be chatting and looking at me lovingly because he wouldn’t have room, whereas I can’t fit three courses in either but always prioritise pudding over starter

That made me chuckle - nobody wants someone to think you want a light meal, especially on your birthday! He sounds like a lovely man. I’m sorry, it’s really unfair. Must be hard to have to be the calm and understanding parent to your DC when you’re hurting too.

So many years ahead without him. And not the childhood I hoped for for our children.
