Have just googled how the changes were received. Domestically, supportive; Internationally, criticized. No surprises there.

It’s a shame it marred what was ( mostly ) a good tournament. Only one team can win at the end of the day.

i remember England being sore losers in a game some years ago, some of them very ungracious when receiving their medals

I would like to say thank you for this thread, it has by far the most sensible comments on this World Cup I have come across. As a sixty eight year old bloke, the first World Cup I watched, was the 1966 victory for England, but it was also the first time I witnessed the Argentine brand of football, including their foul play and the subsequent sending off for their captain Rattin, who received a caution (now a yellow card) for trying to trip Bobby Charlton, then a sending off for dissent. At the time, the Argentine team threatened to leave the pitch, but of course backed down.

Was it the Euro's final? I remember that. However, none of them grabbed an opposition player by the throat, punched a sub or stood with their backs turned to the winners. They just looked sulky and didn't put their medals round their necks. The behaviour of the Argentinians, despite them being deservedly beaten does stink of some kind of bribe/promise by someone Infantino that it would be fixed for them to win, and the ref didn't play ball at the end and started booking them. Interesting that it was his last game.

Have seen Bellingham clouting the other Argentinian player round the head. After hearing something not nice said in Spanish. I don’t condone violence but in that case yes I do. Bet that’s why a lot of the Argentinian players were silent in the match yesterday, because they knew the Spanish players could understand them.
