in the local shop offering an ironing service . Only costs 50p per week, so I've started off with just one week, to see if I get any interest, if I only get one call (even if they decide they don't want to use my services) I'll pay to keep it up there for longer.

Browsed some of the other threads on ironing here on MN, and looked at the (very few) ads I could find for local people doing it and have set what I feel is quite reasonable prices.......even offering slightly lower prices for pensioners and people with disabilities.....

Now I just have to wait and see if there's any takers.

People have to justify spending money, so might read it one week, think about it the next, talk to friend/dp the third week and only then ring you, give it a chance

Single Bedding ? 1.00 per item
Double bedding ? 1.30 per item
King Size bedding ? 1.60 per item

Concessions

Children?s clothes ? 20p
Adult?s clothes ? 40p
Small items ? 20p
Single Bedding ? 70p
Double Bedding ? 1.00 per item
King Size Bedding ? 1.30 per item

Obviously haven't had any calls yet - so if anyone has any comments/suggestions for these figures just shout

Prices sound okay to me, better to have individual prices rather than set price per bag. If it was a set price per bag, I'd stuff as much as I could fit into it!

Most of the ones I found in this area charge per hour - but I (personally) wouldn't trust someone to charge by the hour - easy to "lie" about how long it took/deliberately take longer - and if someone (especially eldery) only want a few little bits done that will only take me 20 minutes much fairer IMO

ainsmum - no min/max amounts - we've got quite a high proportion of eldery people in this area - and I'd like them to be able to use me (if they want) for their few little bits, and if someone wants to give me £40 worth of ironing - that's their problem not mine LOL (and DH has already said he'd help if there was LOADS of stuff to do)

What about fiddly stuff, you know puffed sleeves on little girl dresses, nightmare linen trousers etc

katy - I figured that it doesn't really cost 25p to iron 'standard' kids clothes, so if there's some fiddly awkward stuff in there it should balance out.

As for do people really iron tea towels.....a friend of mine irons EVERYTHING - including socks and bra's

DH is excited about it in a "strange" way.......I've NEVER ironed his work trousers, always thought they were too difficult to get right - but he's going to teach me how to do them properly so I can iron other peoples...........which of course then means he won't have to iron his own trousers

(I do his shirts and put them away with his underwear and socks.....but then he finds he's got no trousers - only to be told "they're in the basket waiting to be ironed".........usually about 20 minutes before he needs to leave for work )

well when we first started living together just before we got married I didn't iron his shirts either - he said I did it wrong.

Then we had a maid who came and did the washing and ironing - so I didn't need to bother......then we moved back to the UK and lived with my parents.....and my mum insisted on doing all the ironing.

We'd already been married for nearly 2yrs before I finally started doing his shirts..........we've been married 5 1/2yrs now - and I'm finally about to start ironing his work trouser LOL.

ainsmum - she irons the back strap out so it's flat - not quite sure why, by the time you've pulled it round and done it up looks no different..........mine all just get shoved in the drawer LOL

Hi QoQ - sounds great, if you're targeting the elderly are you offering a delivery & collection service too? Try a leaflet drop as well in your area.

I mentioned this on another ironing thread a while ago, but we bought one of THESE for the Hotel laundry and it is fantastic - no arm ache you can sit down in front of the TV and whizz through it all, we think it's our best investment yet!

bubble - I'm not particularly targetting the eldery - just happen to know there's a reasonable number in this area - so wanted to make it slightly more affordable for them.

At the moment it's going to have to be them dropping of and picking up at my house as I've got no means to tranport them. Although if they're "very" local I could probably walk to pick them up and drop them off (depending on amount).

DH is only excited about the trousers being ironed - not sure I could persaude him to join me in the 'venture' (besides he's "hopefully" starting a new job soon, and I'll be doing it while he's out) - and he'd probably demand to be payed for it too LOL.
