in the local shop offering an ironing service . Only costs 50p per week, so I've started off with just one week, to see if I get any interest, if I only get one call (even if they decide they don't want to use my services) I'll pay to keep it up there for longer.

Browsed some of the other threads on ironing here on MN, and looked at the (very few) ads I could find for local people doing it and have set what I feel is quite reasonable prices.......even offering slightly lower prices for pensioners and people with disabilities.....

Now I just have to wait and see if there's any takers.

I have to persuade DH to let us holiday in blackpool and we'll have to stay with you

Bubblerock, what will he do in Winter...dp does taxis...

QueenOfQuotes · 04/08/2005 21:04

BTW - back to the topic in question - I've carried my phone round with me ALL day today, except for about 20 minutes when I left it upstairs by accident when I started dinner.

Of course I picked it up and discovered I'd had a "missed call" - no voicemail message and not a number I recognise (no-one ever calls me on it as it's DH's old one - and everyone knows his new one - infact since he gave it to me last October the only person who's rung me on it has been him LOL).

Now I just have to hope they call back again

Sorry, QOQ, forgot there was a subject...I am brilliant at ironing but don't now indulge...but might for cash...

lemonice · 04/08/2005 21:08

Hope they ring back, how annoying is that...

bubblerock · 04/08/2005 21:10

I'd love you to come and stay, I've had quite a few Mnetters + kids already which has been good fun I put rooms on Ebay too

I think DH is going to go to a temping agency, he still wants to be flexible, I think once you've worked for yourselves for a while it's quite hard to go and work for someone. Plus he wants Xmas off. He can drive a forklift truck and has worked for dairycrest, wincanton logistics etc...

My Mum's already been offered a job sorting out an office for really good money over the winter. I will keep house and hibernate

QueenOfQuotes · 04/08/2005 21:11

lol lemon - I'd forgotten there was a subject too

bubblerock · 04/08/2005 21:12

Ring them QoQ - I do if I miss a call

QueenOfQuotes · 04/08/2005 21:14

looks like a nice place........but I'm not sure DS1 would cope with those high bunks in the family rooms

So how much do you charge for under 5's?

OP posts:
QueenOfQuotes · 04/08/2005 21:15

I guess I could ring them in the morning (wouldn't like to ring this late as some people I know are in bed at 9pm).

OP posts:
bubblerock · 04/08/2005 21:17

Nothing We lurve under 5's! The triple bunk has a pull out guest bed underneath too and room for a cot.

QueenOfQuotes · 04/08/2005 21:18

wow - never been to Blackpool - definitely have to try and talk DH into a trip up there as your prices seem really good (although I'm comparing them to "South" prices so what would I know LOL.

OP posts:
bubblerock · 04/08/2005 21:18

Yeah, just ring them and apologise in the morning, fingers crossed it will be your first Job!!

bubblerock · 04/08/2005 21:20

Bit of a difference up North isn't it !! - We only paid £88,000 for this place (13 bedrooms!) It's crazy up here.

QueenOfQuotes · 04/08/2005 21:21

What sort of stuff is there to do in Blackpool, in winter, with a nearly 2yr old and a 5yr old???

Perhaps you could have a page on your website with "places to visit" (and distance from you) - including some 'family' places to show why people should come to you

OP posts:
lemonice · 04/08/2005 21:24

there's Southport...

runs to spend a few minutes with dp before he goes to work...

bubblerock · 04/08/2005 21:25

QoQ why don't you put your African things on Froogle, it's free and if you type in African furniture (or similar) there aren't many shops on there surprisingly could generate a bit of traffic. Heres a link

bubblerock · 04/08/2005 21:31

The illuminations start on 2nd September and finish on 7th November it was really busy last illumination time and we're nearly full for opening weekend. There's loads to do though, have a look Here

I've got a 7 year old and a 21m old and It's really easy to keep them entertained around here, there's always something to see so it doesn't have to cost a lot.

QueenOfQuotes · 04/08/2005 21:32

ooo thanks for that - just trying to figure it out now - we did have google ads, but have had to stop due to money issues LOL

OP posts:
bubblerock · 04/08/2005 21:43

I had a go with adwords on google - it cost a fortune!! Compared to Ebay where I can put a room on with a link to my site for 10 days which costs peanuts yet gets nearly 400 hits!! Also add yourself (both businesses) to all the free sites, touch local etc... basically anywhere that will let you put your details online!
It's tough being self employed isn't it? I think you've just got to get your name around as much as poss! Right, I'm off for a shower before Big brother

lemonice · 04/08/2005 21:51

I use the google ads, which works out about 10% to gross sale but I think it was the ebay thing I was curious about Bubblerock..where you said you used it as a loss leader (or that's how I read it)was what i wanted to ask you about...

I lived in Southport aged 9 to 18 and only went to Blackpool once, before we moved there!

QueenOfQuotes · 04/08/2005 21:53

we've had plenty of 'hits' from the google ads, but no interest not even phone calls or emails - and with money so tight just wasn't worth it.

I'm now in the (what will be a very lengthy) process of creating a 'feed' for the froogle - thanks bubble

OP posts:
lemonice · 04/08/2005 22:05

As far as I cam make out all my sales come from my Google ads, so I spend around £350 month on them...hopefully I will start earning money in the next few months, oddly my cheapest product is 8p...I used to sell French furniture, or tried, but I couldn't sell furniture and hope to make anything! If i hadn't spent three years having a shop I would be much better off, but I wouldn't have learnt as much ouch!

QueenOfQuotes · 04/08/2005 22:07

It's funny you shoiuld say that, as once we've got our finances (personal ones) back in order, we're hoping to open a small shop LOL
