How long for enhanced DBS?

Dottydoodoo · 14/06/2022 21:10

Has anyone had an enhanced DBS recently, and if so how long did it take? It was only received by them five days ago so I’m probably being impatient, however my friend who has got the exact same job just got hers back after three days!

I have been googling (I know!) and am reading stories of people waiting 6-8 weeks plus! If anyone can reassure me of recent quick turnaround times I would be very grateful! I have dreamt of this job for a long time and am keen to get started!

thank you 😊

@3girlsandapooch sorry just noticed your update! Pleased you were not waiting too long. Was yours with the nhs

WhyNott · 08/07/2022 22:02

Mine is STILL not done, I can only laugh and drink wine 😂🍷

Reelin · 09/07/2022 07:28

Still waiting to! Wine sounds good!!

Register for the DBS update service then you will pay annually to keep it on there as it will be easier for new employers to see - always keep the paper copies as well. You need to register your DBS on there within a small time frame and cannot do it after this date unfortunately. This is for enhanced DBS.

ChangingFaces39 · 11/07/2022 14:26

I’ve just started a thread like this. Mine currently says “awaiting countersigning”

ChangingFaces39 · 14/07/2022 07:24

Anyone still waiting.
mines only been a week but still at stage 2

Reelin · 14/07/2022 10:15

Yep I am still waiting, 3 weeks nearly but I have no access to what stage it is at as company doing it for me! Very annoying!!

WhyNott · 14/07/2022 16:35

Still waiting, been stuck at stage 4 for at least 3 weeks. Company have tracking number, not me. I'm now up to 6 weeks of waiting!

ChangingFaces39 · 14/07/2022 18:31

Oh no! These waiting times are worrying me. Mine has only been a week but I was hoping it would be done soon so I could start my new job

Reelin · 15/07/2022 12:54

Yes I was hopeful to have received it by this weekend but looks like that wasn't realistic! Quite Pee'd off really😥

ChangingFaces39 · 18/07/2022 13:16

I’ve been lingering on this post. So far mine has only took 1 week but I’m waiting on last stage, printing certificate, does anyone know how long this takes, I would have thought this would be quite fast but desperate to get a start date

Reelin · 18/07/2022 16:23

Sorry cannot help you on that one as I have no idea what stage mine is at! Obviously seems to depend on what area you are from as to how quickly the whole process is completed.
I know they state 5-7 days to print and receive but how accurate that is I have no idea!
Do let us know when you get it, fingers crossed it's very soon 🤞

ChangingFaces39 · 19/07/2022 16:53

Mine is back…took 9 days. A lot quicker than I thought. @Reelin i hope your not waiting much longer

Reelin · 19/07/2022 17:16

Brilliant news, so pleased for you, hopefully you will be able to start ASAP! Going to try and put it out of my mind as have a feeling I may have a long wait - crazy!!

ChangingFaces39 · 19/07/2022 18:29

Thanks @Reelin
i was the same, constantly refreshing the page for an update, then I just checked and the last 4 stages were all done on the same day

WhyNott · 19/07/2022 21:51

If it makes you feel any better, I'm still waiting @Reelin no rhyme or reason to the process obviously. Pleased it's coming through for some but why others are waiting ages is a mystery?

Reelin · 20/07/2022 11:36

Yep finally been able to get my number to track it and has been stuck at stage 4 for 21 days, so 3 weeks! Crazy really and quite disheartening 😥. Hope we both dont have to wait much longer!!!

Cookies436 · 21/07/2022 22:50

My dbs was submitted 11th July, stage 1-3 completed that day. Been in progress with police on stage 4 since 13th. I am in Derbyshire what areas are you guys from for the police force as I’m hearing horror stories of months and months wait for a dbs. I’m worried to put my notice in for a job starting September without my dbs check back.

Reelin · 22/07/2022 07:25

Yep same here, I am in Kent but cannot find any up to date info on time scales down here at this time, so frustrating. I dont know about @WhyNott, who has been waiting longer than me?

Ricardothesnowman · 22/07/2022 18:44

Make sure you register for the update service as soon as you get your certificate.

It costs £13 /year.
It means that anyone can check your dbs status, with your permission, at any time. It is kept up to date if you have anything that needs to go on there.

This makes it quicker and cheaper if your employer likes to update them, or if you change jobs, do volunteering etc.

You will not have to wait in the future, it can be checked immediately.

gogohmm · 22/07/2022 18:48

Took 3 days last week, I'm a safeguarding officer. They take longer if you have lived overseas

Cookies436 · 23/07/2022 13:12

My brother had a dbs on 16th June and is still waiting that’s an enhanced. His will need to go to 3 police forces tho so his will be delayed. Mine is very simple one police force for the last 5 years and I feel it’s taking ages.

Cookies436 · 23/07/2022 13:13

I’ve never lived overseas. It’s crazy how each police force varies. I’ve emailed my local police force to ask their current turn around time for dbs. It maybe worth others doing this the man at dbs told me to do this

Reelin · 24/07/2022 17:07

@Cookies436 that is a good idea let us know if you get a response!?
Such a shame people's job offers are resting on this, sounds like a few more people could get jobs with the police force in the relevant dbs departments!

Cookies436 · 25/07/2022 12:36

I’ve received an email they are looking at my request and will be in touch in due course. Any news on yours?
