Hi all, has anyone else started a new thread yet?

What happens if you don’t reach the 500 letters? Just wondering how do able it would be for me as I can only commit to evenings but there’s nothing on dict8 for me again 😔

joewe41 · 10/10/2022 20:37

Question about Tpro - I'm supposed to do 500,000 characters a month. If you don't hit this target do they pull you? Wondering how I'm going to do this especially when you pick someone up that is very difficult to make out. Dict8 have had nothing on for me other than 1 letter now and again over the last month, so really need this to work.

Thanks. Worrying all round for everyone with Dict8.

Gally123 · 10/10/2022 20:58

@Raisingboys22 My contract I signed is for 150 letters a week, roughly 30 a day. Sometimes I do very short letters of 20 seconds or so, these easily mount up if you only have 30 mins or so. Also you state have only evenings but the other day I logged on at the weekend and there is always plenty and I did 20mins work in between housework, shopping etc. You can always fit in some checking at odd times. 500 letters a month is about 125 a week, not a problem I would say. Sometimes I type 60 or 70 letters a day.
@joewe41 I hit my 1,000,000 target for the bonus pay after about three weeks so I would think half that is quite possible, Don't worry about it, it takes time to get used to the system and their layout but is fine after a while.

Whitestar55 · 11/10/2022 11:27

Regarding Tpro, I suppose they stipulate that you do a certain amount, but as you are a self-employed freelance contractor they can't hold you to it like they could with an employee, but would just possibly close your account if you do too little? I think they take their chances so that they can run these companies with a low cost SE workforce that frees them from paying employer's NI and pension contributions, sick and holiday pay.

My cheque has arrived - only 14 day L8!! Yippee

joewe41 · 12/10/2022 00:17

@Raisingboys22 Thanks, I have been bit worried about it as found some of the dictators hard to understand. Think I might be getting slightly better but just feels like I've been thrown into the typing pool all over again LOL. Will try some at weekend and see how I go.

Chrissols · 12/10/2022 15:53

I have been away for a while again - have I missed something, or has work dried up again? There isn't a single task showing and I have several specialties

nomadchild · 12/10/2022 17:32

@Chrissols I think there is defo something going on. I have 5 specialties and every day for the last month the task numbers are very low. I think they may have lost a lot of contracts. Other companies use much more advanced systems for transcribing in and I think Dict8 may have fallen behind re their tech. It is very worrying.

Gally123 · 12/10/2022 18:42

@nomadchild @Chrissols - it often goes like this after DICT8 have been on a big recruitment drive. There are now a lot more people chasing the same number of tasks.

danblack87 · 12/10/2022 18:48

@Gally123 and @Whitestar55 The amount of work available has gone down considerably ... I am struggling to make £30-£40. per week; so, it would seem that either the contracts are not there OR there is an over-recruiting drive.

deewu · 12/10/2022 18:56

Its fastest finger first time again, what fun. Just remember not to refresh at the speed of light 🚀

danblack87 · 12/10/2022 18:58

The over-recruiting drive may because many have decided to work for T-pro which I have no wish to do as I cannot commit to the hours or amount of letters they wish to be typed in a week. I am sure Dict8 know that many have left (or are working less than they did for Dict8) and, of course, they need to keep the needs of their contractors in line with deadlines. Good luck to all in what you do. Just saying.

Gally123 · 12/10/2022 19:02

@danblack87 - also there are now many NHS secretaries etc who do not want to return to the hospital setting after COVID and would rather work from home.

SJAvirtual · 12/10/2022 22:01

Hi I have been working for DICT8 for several months now constantly getting critical responses for the most ridiculous things now I have received email saying due to feedback they may suspend my account, I rely on this to make up my money, peed me off given amount they pay, its a ball-ache, has anyone else received such a threatening email?

Gally123 · 12/10/2022 22:06

@SJAvirtual - I understood as with most companies that they state they give people three warnings before terminating their contract. The information should be in the details when you signed on. Perhaps this was just a first warning and as with their feedback they have not phrased it very well.

SJAvirtual · 12/10/2022 22:09

Thank you I will certainly check the terms and conditions, I wouldn't mind but hardly had any work the last 2 weeks 🤔

Cherryblossom114 · 12/10/2022 23:56

@SJAvirtual Are you referring to the A4 page email "youre band 4 secretary etc etc We ve all been there.

joewe41 · 13/10/2022 00:29

@danblack87 I like the way you can pick how much to do with Dict8, but for about 4 weeks now there has been virtually nothing on. Think I've done 4 letters in that time. I feel like I have no other option but to type for another company especially if I want to complete my course of study. The other thing is that Dict8 wouldn't let me pick up Orthopaedics because my experience was so long ago. Tpro are letting me type whatever specialities are on the system and other than having difficulties making out some of the doctors it hasn't been a problem. With a bit of typing on Sunday and some this week have practically hit my target for the week, but maybe I'll feel differently when exams and coursework get more hectic. Hope things pick up for you all again though, it's not easy for anyone at the moment.

danblack87 · 13/10/2022 09:36

@Gally123 : It is true regarding the NHS secretaries working from home during and since COVID - perhaps many have applied and recruited to Dict8. I keep going but it is slim pickings.

Whitestar55 · 13/10/2022 11:21

Is anyone else having problems with their internet connection? Mine keeps disconnecting and I keep losing work that won't save, so annoying when you are earning peanuts to start with.

Whitestar55 · 13/10/2022 15:00

There's a lot of work on DICT8 at the moment (rubbish dictation). I think most of the new recruits have ditched it already!

My work has trickled in this week, i've gone to typing to quota and leaving for the day to typing over and above quota ready for a "famine" day. Getting ahead is a priority for me now which is doing my head in, my exercise has gone down hill as i'm not wanting to leave the desk in case i miss anything, not so bad now i'm ahead, two days worth would be better. I wasn't planning on but managed to snag a few last night. I'm now looking at side hustles to make up for time spent with no work. I'm not in a position to go to work personally. I'll say this much for the need of just a bit of "pocket money" on a casual basis to just aiming for £350 pm to stay above water is getting a joke. Its been a year this month since i quit my full time position as med sec, no regrets but I didn't see this crock of xxxx comng with the current climate either. I doubt i'd be better off if i opted to go back as the commute would take £££ off me too.

What a world we are living in today.

Australia25 · 14/10/2022 20:56

Its all very difficult not to overwork for not very much money especially when you suddenly see lots of tasks but you can’t get past first base as the dictation is absolutely dire and you take the risk of just editing with numerous notes to Secretary as you really can’t decipher much - so frustrating.

Gally123 · 17/10/2022 13:15

does anyone understand the IR35 tax rules? Possible @Whitestar55? Would these apply to us - in that it regards people as more "employees" than "self-employed" and thus are likely to be taxed more in future in line with proper employees. In that case I may well be getting a different job....(one local pub was advertising £10 per hour bar staff and £11 per hour kitchen staff)

Frazzledbynature · 17/10/2022 14:35

www.gov.uk/guidance/understanding-off-payroll-working-ir35

the current rules

inews.co.uk/inews-lifestyle/money/ir35-scrapped-is-being-changes-tax-rules-reversed-jeremy-hunt-statement-1915708

what is speculated to happen, personally I was going to see what tax i had to pay at the end of the tax year, i don't earn enough to pay national insurance but its all new to me anyway so this would be my first year at declaring my income..
