Hi all, has anyone else started a new thread yet?

OP posts:
deflatedbirthday · 09/08/2022 18:23

@danblack87 it was me who said it looked shoddy. I've always been told to capitalise (similar to drugs but that's a different story!) and it has appeared as capitalised in the three terminology guides I've been given for three different departments at three different hospitals.

Chrissols · 09/08/2022 20:00

I did my AMSPAR many many moons ago, and it was lower case then, but rules change and hospitals all have their own ways, no set rule book.

nomadchild · 09/08/2022 21:08

I did Amspar diploma with RSA medical typing exams and always lower case also did a lot of research typing of academic papers and dosages always lower case for publications. Maybe things have changed ? I was also taught capitalise drugs but that is wrong now. So who knows ?

Chrissols · 10/08/2022 09:31

I am skipping Dict8 for the rest of the week, and possibly next, to see if anything changes - still the same five blocking that have been there since weekend - I really do not understand how this is being allowed to happen - surely the services need their dictations back??

bluebell8329 · 10/08/2022 10:00

Just a quick question, when addressing letters, does anyone else put Letter to GP? I've been doing this for the last few months unless stated otherwise and only yesterday and some feedback saying "please do not guess the addressee. Thank you.". Has anyone else had this?

Gally123 · 10/08/2022 11:12

@bluebell8329 I have only ever put "Letter to GP" if it is dictated, otherwise I leave it blank and just have "Dear Dr".

deflatedbirthday · 10/08/2022 11:13

@bluebell8329 this is one where I've had mixed feedback. I was initially told to type letter to Gp unless it was specified as other. So I did for ages... and then was told not to guess so 🤷‍♀️

I only typed what i was instructed to type, I began as a clinical typist in 2015 and i have to say i was gobsmacked on how very little in way of instruction i got. It was so busy the secretary's above me just monitored my letters and all drugs were listed as OD, BDS etc and capitalised drug names too.

@bluebell8329 I was the same with that, and told to only type what is dictated but i was typing to GP as per the "mousemat" which to me was the way they wanted it. Can't win now I just do as dictated in all avenues and get little back unless i've overstepped my carriage return too much!

danblack87 · 10/08/2022 14:01

@bluebell8329 : I only type 'GP' if it is stated ... otherwise it is Dear Dr.. Mind you, you get those dictations where clearly they are to the patient and not the GP 'even if they dictate letter to GP copy to the patient SO I switch it around and CC the Dr!!!

Chrissols · 10/08/2022 15:59

Is anyone else getting stuck with five that aren't moving or is it just my combination of specialties?

EmilyJ23 · 10/08/2022 16:35

Unsure if I should sign up to Dict8 or not, especially reading the last few pages here. Has anyone typed for or any reviews/Information on typing for Transcription City? Xx

Chrissols · 10/08/2022 17:40

@EmilyJ23 I have to say, at the moment Dict8 is pretty rubbish - very difficult to even get up to minimum wage. Haven't heard of Transcription City, but NJC were advertising recently

Meha5a · 10/08/2022 17:42

My word that company sounds really uptight !!!

Lindsaychad123 · 10/08/2022 17:44

@Chrissols what is the reason it is blocking it, i have had audio that I have totally been unable to hear/make out and i usually type in the box a note to dict8 that it is unable to be typed and submit it and they have never came back and said anything to me i have done this 2-3 times as I have one consultant that has what i think is a dodgy machine for transcribing and it glitches so i cannot hear it at all, that might free it up for new stuff to come in? obviously not ideal but maybe will clear it for u and flag up to Dict8 there is a problem

deflatedbirthday · 10/08/2022 17:45

@Lindsaychad123 @Chrissols I have also done this. I just type audio too poor and submit. It's never come back to me

Lindsaychad123 · 10/08/2022 17:52

@deflatedbirthday i just thought if i was working in an office setting i would say to the consultant i am unable to type this can you redo and it wold get done like that so just going through dict8 they will either need to try and do it themselves or send it back to whichever Trust/Hospital

deflatedbirthday · 10/08/2022 17:53

@Lindsaychad123 absolutely I agree!

Lindsaychad123 · 10/08/2022 18:04

even bad audio that i can partially make out i type as much as i can and i just query the bits i cant especially if its results or drug doses least then most of the letter is done and they just need to check it i guess.

Chrissols · 11/08/2022 09:34

@Lindsaychad123 they are blocking as they are inaudible! When they are 20 minute long dictations I really do not want to spend my time picking out the odd bit I can understand, and I am guessing the other transcribers don't want to either as they are still there!

Lindsaychad123 · 11/08/2022 10:43

@Chrissols I would then put in saying it’s inaudible and submit it that should clear it for u cause if it’s inaudible for u it should go back to consultant to redo

Chrissols · 11/08/2022 10:55

@Lindsaychad123 fortunately I have other work to do so am just doing more and more of this instead. I have been a med sec for 30 years, as I think a lot of the transcribers on here have been and am not prepared to waste time with deciphering atrocious dictation which, as said earlier, other transcribers do not seem to be prepared to do either or they would not still be sat there. I am of the impression that Dict8 will know how long tasks have been hanging around so it should be down to them to sort out - at least they are on a set amount per hour - if I was to start picking my way through the tasks that have been blocking things lately I would be lucky to clear £5 an hour - this I am not prepared to do!

Lindsaychad123 · 11/08/2022 11:15

@Chrissols thats fair enough I’m in the same boat I have been in for 15 years and I am very picky I’m what I do but I just usually listen to a bit and then send back.

Meha5a · 11/08/2022 11:19

I'm surprised people are getting away with that, I thought DICT8 wanted us to go to them if it was inaudible, they would decide if it was inaudible, then they would come back to tell you it was inaudible in order for you to add a note saying that it was inaudible - Jesus I am exhausted typing that !!!!! 😂

Raisingboys22 · 11/08/2022 13:14

Literally cannot be ar*sed with this terrible dictation this afternoon

danblack87 · 11/08/2022 14:43

@meha5a: I agree with you (following that video received) and I would just do that (inaudible on the note). You run the risk of cause of them saying it is perfectly audible at their end!!! If you not in the mood for feedback then you are not going to type them .... if they keep getting 'inaudible' then surely the task(s) should be be removed by Dict8; hence, if multiple transcribers type 'inaudible in the notes box' on a particular task then it has to be typed by someone at Dict8 if they can hear it or return to sender.
