Someone who is cleverer than me (that's all of you then) - please explain "pro rata" to me.

What exactly does that mean???

it means in proportion

so that wage is for a full year's work (I would assume based on 35 hours a week x 48 weeks)

if you work half the time you get half the pay

it means that if you worked ft that is the wage you would get but you only get it proportionally as a pecrentage of 16/the full time hours

It means that the wage stated is for a full time job

So if the full time hours are for eg 40 hours a week you will get 16/40 of the full time wage ie two fifths

ermm - ok - so based on 16hrs a week how much would that actually be (roughly?)

or maybe the 48 weeks should be 52 weeks (sorry I took 4 weeks holiday off to get a weekly rate but think that might be wrong)

You take that figure

divide it by 52 = weekly wage for full time
divide THAT figure by 40 = approximate hourly rate.

I don't know - I do still "have" a job - working nights as a Care Assistant - but I've only got until the end of January before I'm due back - and I HATED the place (not the work - I enjoyed that - but the manager...and owner.) so I'm trying to find something else. Don't know what though - can't really do nights again - no with the 3 DS's, I want something mornings only (as DH works afternoons/evenings) so we still don't have to worry about childcare arrangements - except for one day once a month when he has a team meeting.

This particular job is for a "Domestic Assistant"

Why, when you are so literate (as you demonstrate so frequently on MN), are you going for jobs as a care assistant / domestic assistant?

Couldn't you do an office job - something where you sit down all morning at a computer / telephone? Wouldn't that be better paid / less tiring (with all those boys to look after)?

rather odd 2 week shift pattern

The hours of work are on a 2-week shift:

Week 1: Monday to Friday - 9am ? 1pm.
Week 2: Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday ? 9am - 1pm

so it's not really 16 hours every week

oh and the pro rata is based on 37.5hrs...

anyhow - the hours seem to be rather specific - and not don't really fit in with what I'd ideally like - as DH can leave at 1.30 a few days a week, but not everyday - or he'll end up working most of his weekends to make up the hours.

ok based on my new information - where I (in theory) would be working 12hrs one week, 16hrs the next.....how much would that be - with the pro rata mentioned in the OP =- where it's based on 37.5 hours??

oh - and what would 27 days holiday - pro rata - actually work out at??
