How many hours a week do you work?

As the title says really

I'm currently on 34.5 hour week and feeling really guilty as I want to reduce my hours due to the stress of the job. It's beginning to make me unhappy even thinking about going into work.
I've emailed HR to find out what the reduction in salary would be.

How many hours do you work - and would/have you reduced hours? Has this made for a happier work/life balance?

About 12-16 hours a week. I bring home around 1400 a month.

PurBal · 09/08/2020 08:04

37.5. Previous jobs were 48 and 42.5. I consider my current hours a walk in the park. Although stressful at times.

BeBraveAndBeKind · 09/08/2020 08:17

Between 35 - 40, sometimes more, sometimes less. I'm contracted to 35 but work flow varies depending on what we have on. My boss is very relaxed and says that as long as everything is getting done on time , he's not bothered how/when it's done. I love my job and work in a great team so am happy at full time at the moment.

I work 10-15 hours a week. I’ve got my own business and it’s basically running itself with a small amount of input from me.

chocolatespiders · 09/08/2020 08:23

I work 44 hours (NHS) but this is two contracts one full time and one 7 hours a week (2 evenings)
Luckily I love both jobs although has been tiring during covid but I wouldnt have a choice of giving either up as single parent and need the income to survive.

Tartan333 · 09/08/2020 08:25

15 hours per week over 2 days, term time only.

CherryPavlova · 09/08/2020 08:32

About 45 at the moment. More before lockdown.

ReefTeeth · 09/08/2020 09:20

I've always worked FT and have just started a perm part time role, 24 hours over 4 days.

It's amazing 🤯

Think I'm just at that point in life where I really could benefit from PT. Homeschooling (Melbourne) for the foreseeable so it's really helped.

I imagine when DC get older I'll go back to FT but I'd struggle with motivation at the moment.

I do feel bad for my colleagues working FT and homeschooling although there's only one who's desperate for PT and it won't get approved because management aren't being helpful.

In Feb I dropped my hours to 30 a week over 4 days so I could have every Monday off with DD (2). We could definitely have done with the extra money but my own wellbeing was worth more than anything else at that point. I don't think I could ever go back to 5 days a week now, but I would increase my hours over 4 days if I got the chance.

JaJaDingDong · 09/08/2020 09:34

Contractually, 35 hours (which is full time at our place). In reality anything up to 50, possibly more when we're mid project.
I've started condensed hours this year, so 10 days in 9. I get every other Weds off and it's fab.

Management couldn't really refuse when I showed them the hours I was working for them for free. They wouldn't pay overtime.

Bargebill19 · 09/08/2020 20:25

Up until this week I was doing 6o+ hours over 7 days a week. Just changed contracts and will now be doing 35 hours mom- fri. The relief is immense. Same take home pay.

JStarlight · 09/08/2020 21:31

@Bargebill19 what job does this involve where you have halved your hours and getting the same pay? Did you change job roles or have you just stopped doing overtime for free?

JStarlight · 09/08/2020 21:35

@vanillandhoney if you don’t mind me asking what job role is this where you bring that home for 12-14 hours a week.. I get that on 37hours a week! Is that £?

Yes, it's in pounds.

I'm a dog walker and pet-sitter 😊 I work about 3-4 hours per day on average.

Bargebill19 · 09/08/2020 22:03

@JSt

Bargebill19 · 09/08/2020 22:04

Try again! @JStarlight

I’m a cleaner. Now doing infection control cleaning.

howlathebees · 09/08/2020 22:05

15 hours over 5 days, term time only. I’m much happier this way, I’m on less than I was when I worked full time but because of childcare savings it’s left is in a better position

SimonJT · 09/08/2020 22:09

I’m contracted to do 32, but as long as my hours average out I can do slightly more one week, less the next etc.

LaurieFairyCake · 09/08/2020 22:12

20 contact time, about 10 thinking time and about 10 related to work

I LOVE my job (work from home, very fulfilling, get paid really well)

thismeansnothing · 09/08/2020 22:12

22.5 hours a week over three night shifts start at midnight finish at 8am

C33P0 · 09/08/2020 22:17

28 over 4 days. It's better for work-life balance, but life is still hectic with 2 young children when you factor in the school/nursery drop offs and pick ups and commute. I also get 6 weeks annual leave per year. Sometimes I find it difficult to use all my annual leave with already being part time, as most others around me are full time.

I would like to get a new job but it feels like it would be impossible to find anything with hours as good as this - everything is advertised as full time. On the other hand, I feel like I've already stayed in this job a couple of years too long.

Bluebellpainting · 09/08/2020 22:17

Prior to maternity leave I did 48 hours a week officially but as it is shift work some weeks I would do 71.5 hours officially (but often more due to finishing off etc.) and other weeks very few hours so it balances out to 48 hours officially but often more like 52 when you include the unpaid bit. I’m returning on a 60% rota but yet to see what it looks like.

Chickydoo · 09/08/2020 22:18

50-60 (self employed)

CleanandJerk · 09/08/2020 22:35

I work 36 hours per week. I've always worked full time, as a lone parent I didnt have any choice (prior to marriage break up I was the one supporting ex's prolonged study, then he walks off into the better future all by himself).
If I can work from home I can manage.
However if it's back to the office I'll see if I can cut down one day. I realised five days of commuting and juggling is killing me.
When I was offered this job I was told flexible working applies, up to a day can be worked up and taken per month. This helped sway me to take the job. When I started I was told not in our section, but can be done in other areas of the company. It's not worth it for me taking a few hours now and then due to commuting and if you start later the place is so crowded it's often impossible to find a parking space. Still annoys me.
I regret taking this job now as I had more flexibility in my old job!

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 09/08/2020 22:38

I dropped down to four days last year - 28 hours - which is great, but unfortunately DP has been made redundant so money is tight.
