How many hours a week do you work?

As the title says really

I'm currently on 34.5 hour week and feeling really guilty as I want to reduce my hours due to the stress of the job. It's beginning to make me unhappy even thinking about going into work.
I've emailed HR to find out what the reduction in salary would be.

How many hours do you work - and would/have you reduced hours? Has this made for a happier work/life balance?

Officially 37, realistically more like 55. I'd love to reduce or at least work my official hours, but it's not going to happen.

MissCalamity · 09/07/2020 20:55

28 hours - reduced from 38 after mat leave 10 years ago with no intention of ever going back to full time.

Babytalkobsession · 09/07/2020 21:11

I've worked crazy hours in the past, 60-70pw plus phone calls whenever.

I'm now on a 28 hours contract, currently over 3 days but changing to 4 shorter days in Sept for school pick up. I hope to never be full time again! Although it makes career development almost impossible in my job.

Hoppinggreen · 09/07/2020 21:13

20 hours
It’s quite well paid and I’ve got a really good life/work balance as I can choose my own hours within reason

Themostwonderfultimeoftheyear · 09/07/2020 21:15

37 but term time only.

Everypony · 09/07/2020 21:21

45-55
I think I work the least out of everyone I know
Where is everyone based and what do that is 20, 30 hours a week??

unicornparty · 09/07/2020 21:21

26 hours

thenewaveragebear1983 · 09/07/2020 21:22

I was working 6 hours (sessional) as a college teacher, but honestly I was doing 6+ hours unpaid at least, not including anxiety time. I've just taken a post that's 25 hours a week, term time, non teaching. My hourly rate will be around a third what I was in as a teacher but it's more money overall, and I can't wait.

SauvignonBlanketyBlank · 09/07/2020 21:23

7.5 hours a week Smile

Themostwonderfultimeoftheyear · 09/07/2020 21:30

I am support staff in a school pony. I took a significant pay cut to be able to fit around my DS. I work 7-3 term time only. In September he starts school and DH will do drop offs and I will do pick ups. I will have all the holidays off with him. For the pay I am on I am not doing over my contracted hours!

mummytooneprincess · 09/07/2020 21:33

I currently do 22.5 but am increasing to 28.5 next month but still over three days

SallyWD · 09/07/2020 21:42

17.5 over 3 days. I earn a pittance but I love it.

Trumpetpants · 09/07/2020 21:53

Between 50 and 60 hours but I absolutely love it. Previous job worked 30 hours a week and hated it. This is only a temporary contract but I love it, am very blessed.

Someaddedsugar · 09/07/2020 21:54

Officially 37 but the reality is somewhere around 43 each week.

healthylifestylee · 09/07/2020 21:58

37.5 paid

Thanks to COVID I eat my lunch at my desk and continue working so 40+ a week

Snailsetssail · 09/07/2020 22:00

Was full time before going on mat leave. Now only work 2 days a week. I’m
in school 7:45-3:45 but I do another 5/6 hours a week planning and marking on top on another day when DH is here
to watch the kids.

choli · 09/07/2020 22:09

I'm surprised so many can afford to work part time.

IzziC · 09/07/2020 22:18

I LOVE my job! Even so I reduced my hours to 31.5
Just enough that I don't start burning out without taking too much of a pay hit.

MondeoFan · 09/07/2020 22:32

I work about 26 hours I'm happy with that. It's a good wage for the amount of hours. I have 2 DC and a dog so these hours give me a good work/life balance

CorianderLord · 09/07/2020 22:33
  1. Would love to condense into 4 days but alas. Not allowed.

Zisforstripyoss · 09/07/2020 22:59

22.5 over 3 days. I reduced after maternity after DC2 and it works really well. I wanted to do 30 hours over 3 days, but, same as CorianderLord posted, I wasn't allowed either.

missingmum · 09/07/2020 23:18

21.5 over 3 days for the last 7 years, since Covid I've done 25 over 5 days. Definitely prefer 3 longer days than the 5 days, feel I'm on a hamster wheel and weekends are just spent doing things I don't have time for I'm the week.

BackforGood · 10/07/2020 00:05

I'm surprised so many can afford to work part time.

Some may be in very well paid roles
Some may be in a family unit with a partner who is in a well padi role
Some may have had income from elsewhere (maybe an inheritance or a lottery win to pay of the mortgage?)

But many. many people cut their cloth to match the income they have. For may of us, the time (and therefor our health) is more important than what some folk spend money on every year.

WhatKatyDidNxt · 10/07/2020 00:12

40 hours a week. Looking to cut them back in a couple of years. My partner and l both want a better work life balance. We don’t seem able to have children so l think more work life balance and fun are the easy forward for us
