Pay with Dict8

juju1507 · 09/03/2015 09:19

I have been working s/e with Dict8 for 3 years now and my payment by cheques are arriving later and later. My last cheque arrived 8 days after it was issued and I noticed they are now sending cheques second class. Does anyone else work for Dict8 on here and, if so, are you finding that your cheque is arriving much later than it used to? I have direct debits set up deliberately for the middle of the month in order that my cheque would have cleared in time but now I am worrying that even by 15th of each month the cheque will not have cleared. Sorry for the ramble but just curious if others have noticed this.

I take mine to the post office as well, they send it first class in the special envelopes and give you a receipt, just need a paying in form, but more convenient as post office is closer and the banks are closed on Saturdays at the moment.

ElleBee56 · 12/05/2020 09:59

@Chrissols can you put your banks banking app on your phone? Before I put mine on I was taking my cheque to the post office which took between 5 and 7 days to appear in my account. With the banking app it's in my account in 2 days. Cheques have to be under £500 which is not difficult these days!

Chrissols · 12/05/2020 10:02

@ElleBee56 my bank do not have a banking app, it's more of a building society so a bit behind the times. Had to post the cheque to them on Saturday which means they won't have received it till today and then five days to clear. @Gally123 @danblack87 I might give the post office a try next time as there is one practically on my doorstep so would be very handy.

Gally123 · 12/05/2020 10:08

@Chrissols - I get a few envelopes from the post office so always have one handy, so can fill in the details at home rather than at the counter. Normally I pay in Saturday and it is credited to my account on Thursday.

danblack87 · 12/05/2020 10:22

My post office is also practically on my doorstep as well as being a convenience store so it very, very handy. You don't have to pay the postage and the envelope is free. Like Chrissols my cheque usually clears within 5 working days (+ the cheque can be as small (as is the case right now) or, in the good old days (no limit on the sum of the cheque to be cashed)). I don't have a mobile so App is no good to me!

I just wished to let you all know that I have just been advised that I am entitled to a self employed grant which will now be paid in six days. This means that as self employed transcribers we do meet the eligibility criteria for this. This was great news - I wish you all well with your claims and do make sure you put your claim in as it is well worth it.

Gally123 · 13/05/2020 12:52

I did the checker and was told I was entitled to claim but the system then crashed...

Chrissols · 13/05/2020 12:52

@Lucylizzy123 what happens with that, does it mean you cannot still work during the time you get the grant? Sorry if I sound very naive, but seems too good to be true if you can do both?

Lucylizzy123 · 13/05/2020 12:58

No you definitely can still work, in fact it is a stipulation that you do actually continue to "trade" in the current tax year. The grant is paid but obviously you will need to declare it on your tax return and you will be taxed on it, but it is a grant and does not need to be paid back. They average your self employed earnings over the last three years and divide that by three, and then pay you 80% in a lump sum. You can have other employment through PAYE also but your earnings have to be less than your self employed income. There is no catch.

Lucylizzy123 · 13/05/2020 13:00

It is nice actually because it will certainly take the pressure off chasing tasks all day, which are very few as we know.

Gally123 · 13/05/2020 13:44

@Lucylizzy123 - when it asked for the address associated with the bank account - did you put the banks address or your address? Thanks. (having a senior moment)

Lucylizzy123 · 13/05/2020 13:51

Yes I struggled with that - quite unclear. They actually want your address, just put in postcode and do not enter the address manually, just press "find" and that should go through.

deewu · 13/05/2020 14:21

That was very straightforward apart from the address associated with the bank account. :)

Lucylizzy123 · 13/05/2020 14:34

I am so glad it wasn't only me that was confused with the bank bit.

Gally123 · 13/05/2020 14:36

@Lucylizzy123 - oops - I put the bank's address in the end! I put the bank's, then changed it to mine as it said address associated with the bank account, then did their "help" and was told they would get back to me in 2 days! So I phoned my sister who said it was the bank's address as they already know my address and it is the branch associated with your account! So I changed it back to the bank's address! I did fill in their feedback to say how vague it was. After struggling to get through and being in a queue and have it crash on me two or three times, once I got to the claim bit I wanted to fill the form in as quickly as possible. Phew!

Lucylizzy123 · 13/05/2020 14:41

Yes it was really confusing. I tried a couple of times and it finally accepted my home address. I did get a confirmation saying that it would be paid in six days, so hopefully that will be okay. Although I bank with Nat West everything is done via telephone or on line now, so I do not really know what branch I am with - my original one has closed. Anyway, all should be okay in the end hopefully.

ElleBee56 · 13/05/2020 16:24

The payment covers the period March to May so should be a nice amount and will certainly help tide me over. I can make my claim from 8 am on Saturday 16th May.

Chrissols · 14/05/2020 11:57

Gosh, how slow is today......hardly seen any tasks

danblack87 · 14/05/2020 13:47

Chrissols: same here Sad

Chrissols · 14/05/2020 13:49

@danblack87 just when things seem to be picking up it goes flat again. Although the few that I have done mention starting up clinics again soon so fingers crossed.

homeworkmum · 14/05/2020 14:29

I hardly had anything yesterday but better today 😁

Gally123 · 14/05/2020 14:45

To anyone filling in their self-employed income support form - I have just had the reply from HMRC regarding the form I filled in yesterday when I entered 'help' regarding the address query - it is YOUR address or business address and not the bank's. So I am now waiting to see if I can amend my form, which will probably take another day or so until I get the answer! Must remember not to ask my sister's advice in future!

Chrissols · 15/05/2020 09:15

Does anyone have an easy site they know of to differentiate which drugs are brand names and vice versa please? My BNF is a few years out of date and I keep getting picked up on it?

Gally123 · 15/05/2020 09:18

@Chrissols - I just use google - they normally use capitol letters for brand names plus will say in the description if it is a brand name. Sometimes there is also a trade mark stamp.

Chrissols · 15/05/2020 09:21

@Gally123 thanks will keep googling then. The hospital I worked 20 years at and also the GP Surgery I worked at insisted all drugs were put in capitals so a hard habit to break.....
