Just devastating. DrLouiseJMoody’s wife has died very suddenly and out of the blue. There are no words really, we send so much love to her, their families and all who love and miss her. Her thread is here… Bless her, just so shocking and dreadful for her loved ones, we keep them in our thoughts..

We are so glad DrLouiseJMoody accepted our offer of a Woolly Hug. We want to make it a real tribute and celebration of their lives filled with love. Will you join us?

We shall need crocheters, knitters and donors. If you would like to donate wool or funds, we can match you up. If you would like to join in but need donated wool, we can help there too. Please message with your offer of help.

We have some wonderful ideas for personalisations from Louise we would really like help with…
Initials please -
J (her, obviously),
L (me),
S (Scrabble, our Border Terrier),
M (Matilda, our Staffordshire Bull Terrier),
D (Dexter, for our deceased pygmy hedgehog!).

She was a huge Star Wars fan (the plaque we are getting where part of her ashes will be interred is Star Wars themed in black and gold!). So really as much as possible please

We are wondering if it would be nice to try and create scrabble tiles for the initials? if anyone would like to try.

Looking at colours for Louise...

Main colours please to be blues, silvers, purples (not too pale please)
Then for embellishes and accents, but not whole squares…
Black, gold,
Red (one of these two please, Drops Merino Extra Fine 11 Red, or Jenny Watson Pure Merino DK WM6 ‘Ruby’ please)
Greens
Cream, one of the following - Debbie Bliss Rialto DK 02 ecru or Jenny Watson Pure Merino DK WM4 cream
and taupe - Jenny Watson Pure Merino DK WM7 Taupe

The Yarn we are Using….
Artesano Superwash Merino DK
Debbie Bliss Rialto DK
Drops Merino Extra Fine DK
Jenny Watson Pure Merino DK
Katia Merino 100% DK
King Cole Luxury Merino DK
Sublime Extra Fine Merino Wool
Patons Merino Extrafine DK

Just from the brands listed please because we know they combine for wash and wear. If you still have any of our wools that have been discontinued - Rowan Cashsoft DK, Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK or James C. Brett Pure Merino DK in your stash, please do use them.

Our listed yarns are all easily available online - Try Wool Warehouse, Wise Badger, Laughing Hens

Simple or complex, made by beginner or expert, we genuinely welcome them all. It really is the love and thought that counts.*

Squares to be six inches, using 4mm needles or hook. Please knot off VERY carefully when finishing or changing colour and sew your ends in, thank you! The last thing any of us want are squares collapsing once the blanket is with Louise.

When posting, it will be the Teddington address, please make sure you add your name and who the squares are for, and if you would like to include a card for Louise please do, we will pass it on.

We will confirm last posting as soon as we are confident folk are underway

Sending so much love Thanks

I just saw @bookbook's NYC square and burst into years like an idiot. The attached pic of our fridge (which has been like it for months) might explain why! NYC was where she splurged for fancy opera tickets, suited up, bought me shoes, and I was too polite to say why me feet were killing all night until I realized she'd put them on the wrong feet! She wouldn't actually be seen with me on the trip home as I wore a slanket all the way (look it's acceptable travelling attire, ok!).

I'm so very grateful to everyone on this thread, more than you can possibly know.

DrLouise - I am happy that anything I can do in a small way helps with the grief , ( and is worth the tussle of skill versus ambition ) .
Tears will be plentiful , I have no doubt over the coming times , but know that all these squares come with love and hugs

Bookbook - that is a fantastic square - well done.

As soon as my wool arrives I will be making bobble squares with initials "J" and "L" along with a couple of other ideas I'm working on.

In the true spirit of Woolly Hugs there will be a lot of love and support sewn in with every stitch. These are things that may not be outwardly visible but they are definitely there - in very large amounts!!!

Wool from lovely donors is now on order from Wool Warehouse for all crafters who have asked. Do bear with, on their website it says to allow an extra 2 - 3 days on top of their normal delivery time frame. So hoping by the weekend possibly, maybe early next week.

Huge thanks again to everyone xxx

Advice please! It's been ages since I made anything that had to be a precise size, and I'm struggling to get it exactly 6". Which is more acceptable, a smidgin under or a smidgin over?

Report
Bearfrills · 24/07/2020 10:04

A smidge under as it's easier to slightly stretch a smidge-too-small square or add a border than squish down a too-large one.

I don't do WH construction though so if I'm wrong please someone correct me! Smile

bookbook · 24/07/2020 10:18

Jelly - a constructor here . Definitely a smidge under as Bear says - there is always a bit of 'give' which is easier to deal with :)

@knottyandpistey I follow Dr L on twitter and have only just seen the WH thread. Am I too late? I'm a duff knitter and also abroad for two weeks
with no wool or needles but would love to do a square on my return. Could order some colours while I'm away of course. The NYC square has set the bar vair high but Dr L deserves nothing less.
