Wow those blankets are lush 😍

viccat · 16/02/2019 16:16

Beautiful blankets!

Does anyone else have a problem with getting their crochet squares to be the right size? I'm finishing a 12 inch solid granny square and seems like one more row will make it too big but without it, it's too small... Help?

PurpleFrog · 16/02/2019 16:33

@vicat - try a round of half trebles for the final round, otherwise it is better if it is slightly too small rather than too big.

Okki · 16/02/2019 20:13

@viccat - I'm construction crew. Purple frog is right - Much better to be a bit small than too big.

I've got mid tension. A round of trebles adds an inch for me. So round of half trebles adds half inch etc.

bookbook · 17/02/2019 09:27

Right, home form hols - time to get my sleeves rolled up, and get joining my blanket :)
Ditto Okki8 and Purple - also a construction crew here - definitely a bit smaller than bigger viccat*
I find I rarely end up at exactly 6 or 12" , so now I measure at about 10`' and change size of stitches accordingly IYSWIM

Have got 20 twelve inch squares here, all beautifully crocheted and the crafter has run out of time to hook them together, so I'm going to do this one, and watch the rugby this afternoon!

OP posts:
bookbook · 23/02/2019 19:26

K&P - yes - she is a fab crafter !
I am plodding on - have joined my blanket and am now bordering - should be finished tomorrow night , so will be in the post shortly - I just have to finish sewing some bits for the craft fair to pop in the same parcel :)
So am thinking I may get time to do another Chernobyl , or if not, at least a good few squares . Going to be looking for inspiration on Mr Google

Spindelina · 24/02/2019 13:20

My progress has been interrupted by chickenpox, but I'm getting there! I'm on the border, but not quite sure how much border there's going to be. And most of the ends are done this time! I've got a few 12" squares done too - will do a few more before the final posting.

TheWoollybacksWife · 24/02/2019 14:12

Hope the pox has gone Spin

I know I'm needy Grin but can I have some reassurance please. I'm doing a hydrangea stripe blanket - does it look ok with a wide stripe of Pomegranate in the centre? My plan is to work the second half in the reverse stripe pattern to mirror the first half. Border will be worked in Pomegranate.

Yeah, pox is gone now (well, the scabs haven't, but hey). DD had a week off school, then toddler DS got it just in time for half term... fun...

Woolly I think the pomegranate looks great and if it's anything like the blanket I did for snugs, it'll make it striking from a distance (which is a good thing!)

Spindelina · 24/02/2019 16:26

You know those times when you know, objectively, that no-one else will ever notice... but you just can't unsee it...
