We are delighted to be introducing a new project we are calling Snugs.

We are aiming to make blankets for children ( 0-16 years) who are being looked after within the Children's Family Trust. The Children's Family Trust work with these children aiming to give them stability and security through to adulthood, helping them achieve their full potential, with the ideal being fostered within a family for life. We would like to make these children something permanent, that they can take with them wherever they are.

Initially we will be working with the group based in the 'South Central' area, so Southampton, Portsmouth, Hampshire, Surrey and Dorset.

We would love for you to help us. We have funds to help if you need yarn, many thanks to the super generous donation from Ruth in memory of her beautiful "Little Mum' Joan.

There will be extra love in the Snugs from them both.

Crafting Info

  • Yarn is Stylecraft Special DK just this please, inc for any embellishments.
  • Squares to be 12 inch ideally, or 6 inch if that is too much.
  • Knit and crochet equally welcome.
  • Beginner or more experienced crafters also equally welcomed.
  • Please use a 4mm hook or needles.
  • No blocking please, and please ensure you are knotting off very thoroughly when colour changing or finishing, leave a 6cm end and use a needle to sew it in.
  • We are asking folk to avoid using a magic ring (crochet) to start as find that these don't seem to always stand up to the pressures of wash and wear.
  • Please read the list of colours in our palette carefully, the list is below.
  • Squares to be single colour, multi colour, textured, whatever you like, they will be wonderful, thank you.
  • If you'd like to make a whole blanket, please use these colours too, makes thing easier at the giving stage! Whole blankets to be 48 by 60 inches, we would like them all to be single bed size no matter what age the child.

The colours are a twist on a rainbow theme...

Aspen

Aster

Bluebell

Cloud Blue

Cypress

Duck egg

Lapis

Lavender

Lincoln

Lipstick

Lobelia

Magenta

Meadow

Pistachio

Plum

Please message us if you need the postal address, but it will be the South Coast one

The last posting date for this first round will be March 3rd.

Thank you so much, these blankets will be very special indeed for these children and young people.

Thanks

I'm jealous of your dots. I didn't know they existed!

JaimesGoldenHand · 19/01/2018 18:24

I can't PM via the app either Sad

Maybe that explains the lack of dots - I'm on the app. It would be interesting to see if all mobile apps are the same

I would love to join in if someone can send me some wool. Got my mum's old knitting needle box in the loft...will hunt for some 4mm.

evening - Witch -, hope you are okay, saw you were not good?
Stitch - hope that you can keep some food down ( oh, and forgot - yes I am away on my holidays on Sunday - 3 weeks away in Tenerife . I have squeezed in as much yarn as is feasible in the luggage ! Doing Little Hugs from yarn cakes whilst there ) .
Just about to sit down and do another square for this tonight
Living - pm K&P and they will sort some for you - :)

SoyUnPerdedor2 · 19/01/2018 20:17

I found Dots!

I think I managed a message...

WitchDancer · 19/01/2018 20:36

Evening Book. Sadly not too good at the moment, but plenty of pills keep me going. It just sends me unable to count stitches or follow a pattern 😔 Thank goodness for granny squares 😁

KnottyAndPistey · 19/01/2018 21:36

Evening all.
Just catching up. The pm inbox is alight with loads of messages as we’ve got a few projects on the go.

We can certainly send yarn if needed and have a supply of needles and hooks too.

Thanks to all those helping new Woolly folk with explanations- truly grateful Flowers

take care Witch - is it ongoing , or is there an end in sight? I do like grannies when the brain doesn't want to work. That is my job sat on the plane on Saturday :)

bookbook · 19/01/2018 21:40

erm actually Sunday - I'm a bit previous!

It's a lifetime illness Book, but it peaks and troughs. Unfortunately I'm in a bad one at the moment but I'm coping. Crochet at least makes me feel useful when I can't do anything but sit. I'm only slightly jealous of your holiday - we went to the canaries last year and did nothing but crochet. I had many admirers, including a very sweet child who didn't speak a word of English or any other language I know but we understood each other without too many problems

KnottyAndPistey · 20/01/2018 09:40

Hope things improve soon lovely witchdancer xxx

Morning all - have lovely hollibobs bookbook!

Not at all jealous!

Morning Knotty 😁

HelloCanYouHearMe · 22/01/2018 22:06

Oooh... I actually have some of the colours on the list and am feeling motivated to grab a hook and get cracking this time.

I'm still new to the world of crochet so will make a few 6" squares if that is ok?

KatieMoragsMum · 25/01/2018 17:18

Hi I am new to these projects but have started some squares today. Am I right in thinking that some plainish granny squares are ok? As they can be put alongside fancier more detailed ones during blanket assembly?

I’m just having an insecure moment, looking at my incredibly basic crochet!

I’ve done my feature middle. Going to put this aside for a while, finish some other stuff (including a bit of stash busting) and then get in some more yarn to make it into a whole blanket. This may take some time!

Thanks! Tomorrow is my crochet anniversary - I posted on 27th Jan about wielding a crochet hook for the first time - so it’s been a year of learning a new skill!

Sasbel · 26/01/2018 22:13

Spin that is beautiful!
Posting to the south coast address tomorrow!
