Welcome to our second thread, may it be as vibrantly riotous as the first!

Anyone reading this thinking Shall I? Can I? Yes you can! :) We would love to have you on board, from someone who is keen to learn crochet or knitting to the more experienced, ALL are welcome here. And a lack of funds is no barrier, we have wonderful donors who want to take part and need a crafter, so we can send you yarn, needles and hooks if necessary. It is all about being inclusive and team work.

So let's crack on!

This then a C&P of the crafting info from thread one.

Our lovely Zombie (who has said she doesn’t mind being outed as Candy) has long been a supporter of Woolly Hugs, bless her for it! Recently she made a very kind donation to us, and we would love to start an Ongoing project to honour this remarkable woman, who we have both had the privilege of meeting, dancing and drinking with. wine wine She is utterly fab-u-lous. :)

After a chat with Zombie we have made a plan which she loves. We would like to make comforting cosy blankets with love in every stitch for women going through treatment for breast and other cancers, and at times these may form part of palliative care. They will be called Candy’s Hugs.

Zombie is a bright and beautiful woman so we have chosen a palette to reflect this which we call Vibrant Riot; it is inspired too by a blanket that was made for her to give big hugs as she goes through treatments.

Will you join with us? If you would like to be involved in any way, we’d love to have you on board. Please post on this thread and PM with your offers: crafting, donating, need wool, etc, we can help you with all of it.

The yarn is Stylecraft Special DK. Just this please for consistency, and in these colours...

Vibrant Riot Palette
Boysenberry
Claret
Empire
Fuchsia
Grass
Kelly green
Lavender
Lime
Lipstick
Magenta
Meadow
Petrol
Plum
Pomegranate
Saffron
Sherbet
Shrimp
Spice
Turquoise
Tomato
Violet

Squares to be 12 inch or 6 inch, crochet or knitted equally welcome, please use 4mm hook or needles. No blocking necessary and please sew in ends, and make sure any colour changes are firmly knotted.

All crafting abilities genuinely welcome, squares made by beginner or expert will be equally cherished. Simple, complex, single colour, mixed colour. It really is the love and thought that counts.

If you would like to learn how to knit or crochet in 2017, let's do it! We have help for the complete beginner here…. And are on hand to help talk you through as well. YouTube has lots of tutorials, you WILL find one that suits! smile

If you feel ambitious and would like to make a whole blanket, then that is wonderful, we are aiming for blankets approx 48 inches by 60 inches, certainly no smaller.

Candy’s Hugs will be an ongoing project, our first posting date is to be January 28th. Do message for posting info when ready.

We are on Facebook - Woolly Hugs and Twitter too @Woolly_Hugs both are good ways to keep in touch.

Thank you so much xx

Thanks

Chipping you never fail to cheer me up! 😁😁😁

PopGoesTheFuckingWeasel · 17/01/2017 13:37

RAINBOW!!!!!!!

And yup...the photos are crap! 😁

(mine, not yours)

Also, I was having a complete bird on another thread earlier- my blood was boiling. I came back onto this one and was deep-breathing while looking at everyone's squares! Cheap therapy! 😁

WhoKn0wsWhereTheTimeG0es · 17/01/2017 13:44

Firefly - I made it harder for myself by using variegated wool, weirdly the colour changes all happened pretty well at the end of rows, but it made it harder to see where I was going wrong with the decreasing.

PopGoesTheFuckingWeasel · 17/01/2017 13:46

Whoknows if you think varigated wool is bad, try crocheting with pompom wool.

KnottyAndPistey · 17/01/2017 16:27

Afternoon!

CesareBorgiasUnicornMask Yes yes yes! Love single colour squares too, definitely need a mix of both, but talk to Five she has just mastered colour change knitting!

Such beautiful squares on this thread, it is such a glorious place to be :)

Evening all. I've discovered it's much easier to crochet and watch TV at the same time if it's just treble stitch. Anything else takes too much concentration. The last rows in this square were completed much quicker than I was expecting.

Pop, hope all goes well tomorrow.

Evening!
A day with DGS, everyone for tea, then a committee meeting.
I can start to knit now, but before I do
some lovely crotchet on here ( did you see I had bought myself a new hook? I am going to give it a go next week,)
WhoKnows - that variegated wool looks lovely in that pattern. Which wool did you use ? some of the variegated ones are too many colours for my taste , but that looks stunning.
Right , off to click and relax :)

Fairyfellowsmasterstroke · 17/01/2017 21:20

Evening Ladies (and Gentlemen??)

There are some lovely squares appearing on here - a credit to Zombie, after all, we're all on board because of her inspiration posts.

I'm attaching a photo of last night's and tonight's progress. Output has slowed up a wee bit as work and life gets in the way!!!

If when I win the lottery my ideal home will have a dedicated crochet room with floor to ceiling yarn stashes complete with it's own mini kitchen and ensuite so I can stay ensconced in a wonderful woolly haze for days on end.

Mr Fairyfellow can pop in occasionally to make sure I haven't disappeared under an ever growing mound of woolly loveliness!!!

Erm... is this too catastrophically 'unique' to be useable? I've tried about four times and I simply cannot get this pattern to work for me. I've tweaked and adjusted and fettled to the best of my ability but to no avail...

Flutter, I remember that pattern- it's a mare! Well done you! 😁

KnottyAndPistey · 18/01/2017 07:24

Morning !
Pop - hope all goes well today, take it easy, and don't lift TheZombie :)
I am out today a bit later, but am going to do a few rows of my rainbow square before I go. With a bit of determination, I can get it finished tonight.
Fairy - those are lovely colour combinations. I am looking at all of the colourful mixtures , and will be starting a whole new bunch of colours next.

SaladDressing · 18/01/2017 08:57

Hope all goes well today Pop and you manage a few hours of woolly recovery time. Smile

MadisonAvenue · 18/01/2017 11:31

Hope all goes well today Pop!

Lucienandjean · 18/01/2017 11:51

My first ever crochet square! I've knitted a few already, but this is my very first attempt at crochet. There are plenty of mistakes, but the next one will be better.

Well done Lucien! Far straighter than my first effort was Blush

How high do we think Pop is at present? Grin

Hope all is well.

Hello you lovely crafters! Just to say I've received my Huggy Wool and now can commence to making bits of Wooly Hug out of it! Thank you, whoever donated my wool, for making this possible. Flowers

BaggyCheeks · 18/01/2017 16:29

That is amazing!

WhoKn0wsWhereTheTimeG0es · 18/01/2017 16:50

Wow! Just beautiful.

Book - the variegated wool was sent to me by WH to make refugee squares with, it's some sort of acrylic DK, I've enjoyed working with it.
