Welcome to our second thread, may it be as vibrantly riotous as the first!

Anyone reading this thinking Shall I? Can I? Yes you can! :) We would love to have you on board, from someone who is keen to learn crochet or knitting to the more experienced, ALL are welcome here. And a lack of funds is no barrier, we have wonderful donors who want to take part and need a crafter, so we can send you yarn, needles and hooks if necessary. It is all about being inclusive and team work.

So let's crack on!

This then a C&P of the crafting info from thread one.

Our lovely Zombie (who has said she doesn’t mind being outed as Candy) has long been a supporter of Woolly Hugs, bless her for it! Recently she made a very kind donation to us, and we would love to start an Ongoing project to honour this remarkable woman, who we have both had the privilege of meeting, dancing and drinking with. wine wine She is utterly fab-u-lous. :)

After a chat with Zombie we have made a plan which she loves. We would like to make comforting cosy blankets with love in every stitch for women going through treatment for breast and other cancers, and at times these may form part of palliative care. They will be called Candy’s Hugs.

Zombie is a bright and beautiful woman so we have chosen a palette to reflect this which we call Vibrant Riot; it is inspired too by a blanket that was made for her to give big hugs as she goes through treatments.

Will you join with us? If you would like to be involved in any way, we’d love to have you on board. Please post on this thread and PM with your offers: crafting, donating, need wool, etc, we can help you with all of it.

The yarn is Stylecraft Special DK. Just this please for consistency, and in these colours...

Vibrant Riot Palette
Boysenberry
Claret
Empire
Fuchsia
Grass
Kelly green
Lavender
Lime
Lipstick
Magenta
Meadow
Petrol
Plum
Pomegranate
Saffron
Sherbet
Shrimp
Spice
Turquoise
Tomato
Violet

Squares to be 12 inch or 6 inch, crochet or knitted equally welcome, please use 4mm hook or needles. No blocking necessary and please sew in ends, and make sure any colour changes are firmly knotted.

All crafting abilities genuinely welcome, squares made by beginner or expert will be equally cherished. Simple, complex, single colour, mixed colour. It really is the love and thought that counts.

If you would like to learn how to knit or crochet in 2017, let's do it! We have help for the complete beginner here…. And are on hand to help talk you through as well. YouTube has lots of tutorials, you WILL find one that suits! smile

If you feel ambitious and would like to make a whole blanket, then that is wonderful, we are aiming for blankets approx 48 inches by 60 inches, certainly no smaller.

Candy’s Hugs will be an ongoing project, our first posting date is to be January 28th. Do message for posting info when ready.

We are on Facebook - Woolly Hugs and Twitter too @Woolly_Hugs both are good ways to keep in touch.

Thank you so much xx

Thanks

Cesare K&P say "All crafting abilities genuinely welcome, squares made by beginner or expert will be equally cherished. Simple, complex, single colour, mixed colour. It really is the love and thought that counts." so your single colour squares will be as welcome as anyone else's.
I've done two so far, both single colour - one in moss stitch and one in a check effect.

Piebald I love yours, great colour combo's.

Today I surprised myself by learning single cast on using the thumb method - the one that doesn't use the tail end. Much quicker than my usual method and neater.

2017couldbegood · 16/01/2017 21:43

All the squares look amazing!

bookbook · 16/01/2017 22:13

Evening!
Well, I managed to finish off my last plain rainbow colour square. I have just cast on the stripey one at last :) But tomorrow is a bit busy and little chance, of knitting so may it be a bit slow going over the next couple of days

Book, that's quite like one I've done in Boysenberry today! It knitted up very quickly.

bookbook · 16/01/2017 22:30

yes! - only a 4 row pattern , and 3 of those knit and purl . I got sidetracked this afternoon trying to knit another square for Tunnock, off the top off my head , but I ended up pulling it out, it just didn't work . Ah well , nothing ventured .
Hopefully a reasonable bundle to send off in the post this week :)

ChippingInLovesWoollyHugs · 16/01/2017 22:56

bookbook 😬. Good shopping!

MrsH ...oh crochet...I know nothing about crochet, other than it's witchcraft! I'll bet the stern look sorts it out though!

K&P. Don't they look amazing together! Zombie posted a photo, ohnher blanket actually on her bed today, it looked lovely & bright, but cosy.

Cesare. Of course they are! You can just do plain knitting or try a texture if you want a little bit of a challenge. Changing colours is actually very easy, when you feel ready to give it a go. But single colours are lovely 😊

Piebald. They look great, you've almost got a whole blanket there! I need to post less & knit more Blush.

POP are you, by chance, on strong pain meds for your argument with a motorised vehicle? That's one odd dream... Well done on the lbs!

Tamsworth 😂

LostPangolin. Hmm...gigolo sounds good, then at least when people ask what I did last night i can say I spent it with a gigolo, it'll sound far more interesting 😂

Imnota. There are so many ways to cast on aren't there! I knit into the previous stitch and twist it before putting it on the needle, for me I find that the neatest.

flutterworc · 16/01/2017 23:10

First dozen DONE - all ready for delivery to resident posrmistress-childminder-haute cuisine chef bookbook tomorrow! Don't worry - pesky end threads have been spirited away since this pict!

bookbook · 16/01/2017 23:10

I have tried most methods of cast on, depending on what I am knitting ( though I don't truly get on with the long tail thumb method , I am always sure that I will run out of wool, and then waste loads ,and I tend to get an uneven tension for some reason. I prefer the cable cast on myself, it seems to be a bit neater for me personally.

bookbook · 16/01/2017 23:13

a dozen ? busy busy :)

PopGoesTheFuckingWeasel · 16/01/2017 23:18

You lot put me to shame! I've only done two rows of The Zombie today- and one of those I had to frog!

They all look fab!!

ChippingInLovesWoollyHugs · 17/01/2017 07:20
Brew

Starbucks have a new flavour - Butterscotch brûlée (latte) I can't decide if I'm intrigued or appalled 😁 But I'd try it if someone delivered it to me right now!

bookbook · 17/01/2017 07:25

mm, that sounds a bit weird, and I love brulee and butterscotch
I am drinking tea while DGS is eating breakfast, then it will be all go....

bookbook · 17/01/2017 07:26

Pop - 2 rounds of your Zombie must be the equivalent of many squares !

PopGoesTheFuckingWeasel · 17/01/2017 07:38

Morning!

DH laughed his ass off this morning...he's having to buy me a rucksack to take to hospital tomorrow, just so I can fit my crochet in there!

However...

He has refused to let me take a cat in with me, so he's not all that!

WhoKn0wsWhereTheTimeG0es · 17/01/2017 09:50

Was it this thread (well, it's predecessor) that was talking about C2C crochet? I lose track of which WH thread is which atvthe moment.

Anyway thought I'd give it a try. The first half was really easy, took half an hour, the second half (decreasing) took about 5 attempts and 2 hours! Got there in the end and very pleased with it. It's for refugee not Zombie blankets hence the colours but wanted to show it off. Grin

Zombie and Woolly Hugs. Our second thread! Come and find out about Candy's Hugs, all very welcome.
ChippingInLovesWoollyHugs · 17/01/2017 10:28

POP hmm...you'll have to outbhim 'on notice', tell him the jury is out! How long will you be at/in hospital for? And importantly, will you still be able to chat?😁

bookbook. I can't stand brûlée, so that's not helping, but it's the texture more than the taste...so maybe. Have fun with DGS you'll well deserve a 'sit & knit' later on!

whoknows. Well done you!! I'm going to have to give crochet a go. Someone has done a lovely green square with an appliqué (crochet) flower on it, it's lovely.

PopGoesTheFuckingWeasel · 17/01/2017 12:17

Chipping it's just an in-and-out, small op. But it involves four hours of recovery time- and you may have worked out by now I'll spend 3.5 of those hours climbing the walls unable to keep still! I pack a bag just in case, as they had to keep me in once, and I didn't have my phone charger with me!

And since you ask, yup, will still be able to chat- however, I've been known to chat absolute shite when I'm on the pain meds they give me! So can you please disregard anything I may ping between, say, 11am and 3pm tomorrow? 😁😁😁

PopGoesTheFuckingWeasel · 17/01/2017 12:20

Oh, and...it's not grown much, but I may not be able to post an update for a few days.

ChippingInLovesWoollyHugs · 17/01/2017 12:28

POP 'I've been known to chat absolute shite when I'm on the pain meds'

Will we notice the difference?

😂

I hope it goes well and of course we will disregard any nonsense. My Dad brought me home after I'd had my wisdom teeth out (under GA & I was 20). Apparently I would not shut up and it was 'far too much information' - my Dad would not tell me what I'd said, now he's gone, I'll never know. Perhaphs just as well, it must have been bad though, because if he'd been able to take the mickey he would have! Blush.

Your blanket really is stunning.

MadisonAvenue · 17/01/2017 12:29

WhoKnows that is really lovely, I intend having a go at crochet.

MadisonAvenue · 17/01/2017 12:31

Pop hope all goes well tomorrow. The blanket is gorgeous!

aknittingnamechange · 17/01/2017 12:34

Hi Ladies

I am unable to knit or crochet, but my lovely sister can so I have bought the wool and needles and she is knitting away😄

It's a lovely idea and we are both glad to be part of it

ChippingInLovesWoollyHugs · 17/01/2017 13:12

aknittingnamechange. That's lovely 😊💐

But if you stay around for a little while, you won't be able to resist having a go 😬

FireflyGirl · 17/01/2017 13:19

We'll convert you yet, aknitting Grin

Well done whoknows - I was the same as you, really struggled with decreasing, but have done it a few times without changing colour and I think I've cracked it!

You lot are a bad influence - I was wandering around the shops yesterday and found some yarn in Wilkinsons and was eyeing it up to make my own blanket... if they'd had Stylecraft I'd have stood no chance Grin

FireflyGirl · 17/01/2017 13:21

This is what I imagine pop's The Zombie blanket looks like in real life Grin

please ignore the blasphemy of the knitting needles when I know you're actually a hooker
