Welcome to our second thread, may it be as vibrantly riotous as the first!

Anyone reading this thinking Shall I? Can I? Yes you can! :) We would love to have you on board, from someone who is keen to learn crochet or knitting to the more experienced, ALL are welcome here. And a lack of funds is no barrier, we have wonderful donors who want to take part and need a crafter, so we can send you yarn, needles and hooks if necessary. It is all about being inclusive and team work.

So let's crack on!

This then a C&P of the crafting info from thread one.

Our lovely Zombie (who has said she doesn’t mind being outed as Candy) has long been a supporter of Woolly Hugs, bless her for it! Recently she made a very kind donation to us, and we would love to start an Ongoing project to honour this remarkable woman, who we have both had the privilege of meeting, dancing and drinking with. wine wine She is utterly fab-u-lous. :)

After a chat with Zombie we have made a plan which she loves. We would like to make comforting cosy blankets with love in every stitch for women going through treatment for breast and other cancers, and at times these may form part of palliative care. They will be called Candy’s Hugs.

Zombie is a bright and beautiful woman so we have chosen a palette to reflect this which we call Vibrant Riot; it is inspired too by a blanket that was made for her to give big hugs as she goes through treatments.

Will you join with us? If you would like to be involved in any way, we’d love to have you on board. Please post on this thread and PM with your offers: crafting, donating, need wool, etc, we can help you with all of it.

The yarn is Stylecraft Special DK. Just this please for consistency, and in these colours...

Vibrant Riot Palette
Boysenberry
Claret
Empire
Fuchsia
Grass
Kelly green
Lavender
Lime
Lipstick
Magenta
Meadow
Petrol
Plum
Pomegranate
Saffron
Sherbet
Shrimp
Spice
Turquoise
Tomato
Violet

Squares to be 12 inch or 6 inch, crochet or knitted equally welcome, please use 4mm hook or needles. No blocking necessary and please sew in ends, and make sure any colour changes are firmly knotted.

All crafting abilities genuinely welcome, squares made by beginner or expert will be equally cherished. Simple, complex, single colour, mixed colour. It really is the love and thought that counts.

If you would like to learn how to knit or crochet in 2017, let's do it! We have help for the complete beginner here…. And are on hand to help talk you through as well. YouTube has lots of tutorials, you WILL find one that suits! smile

If you feel ambitious and would like to make a whole blanket, then that is wonderful, we are aiming for blankets approx 48 inches by 60 inches, certainly no smaller.

Candy’s Hugs will be an ongoing project, our first posting date is to be January 28th. Do message for posting info when ready.

We are on Facebook - Woolly Hugs and Twitter too @Woolly_Hugs both are good ways to keep in touch.

Thank you so much xx

Thanks

FrenchDucks it's perfectly fine to have a right side & a wrong side.

It's also perfectly fine to keep asking questions, if you're asking it, others will be at least thinking it! It makes for a much more interesting thread too!

With the squares, it is (according to K&P) better to be slightly under, than slightly over. (They can 'fill the gap' but it's hard to 'shrink' them 😁)

startingtheengine · 26/01/2017 21:08

French a whole week just to learn how to crotchet Envy that just ain't fair!
I shall keep practicing as the only place that does classes local to me isn't doing one until April, I missed the one this month unfortunately.

Will FB message POP - she is on our Construction Crew, just check in with her xx

We have such emotional and moving requests arriving for a Candy's Hug, so many women needing woolly love and support. Please do keep going with squares. Really can make such a difference here. Thank you. xx

Sending so much love to our Zombie and to her family, she had taken a turn for the worse last night but not in pain, the morphine was doing its thing. We hope her night was peaceful and gentle. Thanks

My wool finally arrived this afternoon! Now I just have to figure out how to knit or crochet, think I'll be busy this weekend.Grin

K&P. Thanks for FB messaging POP.

It's sad that we have so many 'of our own' who 'fit the criteria' of getting Woolly Hugs, but it's lovely to be able to do a tiny something for them, that brings a little bit of comfort.

Chur Have fun! Personally, I think knitting is easy & crochet is the work of the devil 😬 Either, done in sun, at Lake Tekapo, sounds good to me. We didn't get above freezing here yesterday & have a thick carpet of frost today. I'm not complaining though, one thing I love about being back here is actual seasons!

glenthebattleostrich · 27/01/2017 09:21

Some gorgeous colours here and brilliant patterns, I'm in awe at how talented you all are.

Am i odd in that I have crochet in my bag wherever I go and knit at home? I love both, though prefer to make toys when knitting if I'm honest :)

Off to the yarn shop for some black yarn (to make a sheeps face) any bets on how much wool I end up with? Posting some squares while I'm out.

I also need some suggestions - I'm starting a crafting group and need a name. Lots of people interested in learning so will be loaning kneedles and yarn in exchange for some 6" squares which I'll split between hugs and Chernobyl project if that's ok.

CraftyGirly90 · 27/01/2017 10:38

I just received a very generous donation of wool from a fellow WHer. Thank you so very much, it is very much appreciated and will be used with so much love and good wishes xx

lookingforbaubles · 27/01/2017 11:28

i have long forgotten how to knit, its on my to-do list for this year but in the mean time how do i donate wool?

ChippingInLovesWoollyHugs · 27/01/2017 11:47

Glen. Not exactly the same, as I don't crochet, but I have a 6" basic knit in the car & 12" or more complicated 6" squares at home. If you run out of homes for your Woolly Animals I'm sure there are some poorly little MNkids in hospital who would love one 😊 Your crafting group sounds fab & a bonus for the ongoing Woolly Hugs projects! A name...Glen's Woolly Crafters, Glen's Hookers, 😂 all the usual with your name in front .... I'm pretty sure there cannot be anything 'obvious but original' left, so I'd go with something identifying - with name or location.

CraftyGirl. Oooh lovely! What colours?

Lookingforbaubles. I bet if you just buy some wool & make a start, it'll all come back to you! BUT wool donors are just as essential! The best thing to do is send a PM to KnottyandPistey (the OP) (along the name bar is MessagePoster, just go to one of their posts and do that).

KnottyAndPistey · 27/01/2017 14:14

Have spoken to Pop just now on Woolly Hugs FB, bless her, things went a bit tits up and she landed back in hospital, but hopefully things are improving, she misses everyone and will be back here herself tomorrow. Good news Thanks

PopGoesTheFuckingWeasel · 27/01/2017 14:52

Fuck me running, have I missed you guys!

Some beautiful, veautiful squares on here! I've just opened a package they tried to deliver in the week- I was attatched to a drip, and DH doesn't know how to work the postman 😅. It's my Construction Crew kit! Bit deep, I know, but after this week, a reminder that I was useful was beond welcoming! It's an honor to work with everyone's beautiful squares. I can't wait to get started!

The Zombie has grown about an inch, and is now more of a tuc biscuit shape!

PopGoesTheFuckingWeasel · 27/01/2017 14:56

Oh and Wooly hugs is a perfect name...I felt a huge Wooly Hug from this thread!

Sorry to hear people have bileen sick over the past week. Getting sick sucks. Sad

Ohb0llocks · 27/01/2017 15:05

Off to learn how to do this!

Never thought that would be something I'd be saying at 24! Grin

PopGoesTheFuckingWeasel · 27/01/2017 15:09

0hb0llocks I was 31! Incidentally, I'm off to learn to type without typos...so you're never too old Mcdonald

PopGoesTheFuckingWeasel · 27/01/2017 15:10

FFS...DAMN YOU PREDICTIVE TEXT! A brand new phone and no brains patience 😅😅

Coffeeandcrochet · 27/01/2017 15:10

Faaaabulous squares BigApple!

Pop - sorry to hear you've not been well, welcome back!

My week has been pretty crazy with work so I think I'll only have 3 squares ready by this deadline, but will post the rest just as soon as I can. Why does work have to take up so much crochet time?

stephiehelen · 27/01/2017 15:20

I am now out of wool, and as it is all used up I shall post the squares off to you tomorrow morning.
May I have some more wool please?
Thanks :)

ChippingInLovesWoollyHugs · 27/01/2017 15:42

POP. it's SO good to hear from you. I was reallyworried when you posted from a darkened room, then didn't post again. I tend to panic a bit these days when someone just doesn't come back. So so so good to hear from you.

It's lovely that you're one of the hookers & you've received a pack.

You're definitely useful - you cheer me up no end!! xx

Armi · 27/01/2017 16:03

I'm ashamed of the paltry effort (4 wobbly beginner's attempts) I've just posted off, especially having just seen BigApple's fabulous squares!

BigApple11 · 27/01/2017 16:28

We were all beginners once armi !! Some of my early attempts were ridiculous interesting... my top tip is practice till you can practice no more, and once you've got the hang of it stick to simple patterns till you can almost do them with your eyes shut. Remember wonky is still made with love and that's the most important thing!

PurpleDaisies · 27/01/2017 16:30

I've got a fair bit of free time at the moment...how would I become a hooker? If I need to post a cv I can send some pictures of my past work. Grin

PicardsCombOver · 27/01/2017 16:36

Hello all Brew Cake I'm awfully sorry but I'm after advice on how to unroll this Tunisian stitch thingy I've made Hmm

PurpleDaisies · 27/01/2017 16:37

My only foray into Tunisian crochet ended up as felt when I couldn't unpick it. Blush
