Zombie and Woolly Hugs. Come and find out about Candy's Hugs, we need your help.

Our lovely Zombie (who has said she doesn’t mind being outed as Candy) has long been a supporter of Woolly Hugs, bless her for it! Recently she made a very kind donation to us, and we would love to start an Ongoing project to honour this remarkable woman, who we have both had the privilege of meeting, dancing and drinking with. She is utterly fab-u-lous. :)

After a chat with Zombie we have made a plan which she loves. We would like to make comforting cosy blankets with love in every stitch for women going through treatment for breast and other cancers, and at times these may form part of palliative care. They will be called Candy’s Hugs.

Zombie is a bright and beautiful woman so we have chosen a palette to reflect this which we call Vibrant Riot; it is inspired too by a blanket that was made for her to give big hugs as she goes through treatments.

Will you join with us? If you would like to be involved in any way, we’d love to have you on board. Please post on this thread and PM with your offers: crafting, donating, need wool, etc, we can help you with all of it.

Squares to be 12 inch or 6 inch, crochet or knitted equally welcome, please use 4mm hook or needles. No blocking necessary and please sew in ends, and make sure any colour changes are firmly knotted.

All crafting abilities genuinely welcome, squares made by beginner or expert will be equally cherished. Simple, complex, single colour, mixed colour. It really is the love and thought that counts.

If you would like to learn how to knit or crochet in 2017, crack on! We have help for the complete beginner here…. And are on hand to help talk you through as well. YouTube has lots of tutorials, you WILL find one that suits! :)

If you feel ambitious and would like to make a whole blanket, then that is wonderful, we are aiming for blankets approx 48 inches by 60 inches, certainly no smaller.

Candy’s Hugs will be an ongoing project, our first posting date is to be January 28th. Do message for posting info when ready.

I mostly stick to my 4mm, starting, but you can get sets of them pretty cheaply on ebay and Amazon.

I've been trying corner to corner - more practice is needed!

4mm hook (which tbh is a very, very standard size so you should have no trouble finding one even probably in a pound shop!)

Very best of luck. I would say YouTube tutorials are best for absolute beginners, but I just adore my book now I know vaguely what I'm doing.

Anyone who would like a 4mm hook, I'll happily post. I've got loads for some reason.

I tried cornercto corner. It didn't go well.
Even that attic24 grannie square requires A LOT of concentration!
But when I do plain treble stitch squares i get holes at either end where you do the turning chain, which is irritating:-/

Hi, Just to let you know the wool came through today. So I went zooming down to my local Hobbycraft to pick up some knitting needles, only to find they hadn't got any 4mm needles and wouldn't be getting any anytime soon So, there will be a delay while I get some needles somewhere - Sorry

stephie wool warehouse might have some, they're really good for yarny things.
Or maybe try a loca charity shop, or if you're on faceache ask in a local selling group?

Well I was clipped by a car on the way home...I now have NO CHOICE but to rest up for a few days...and crochet! Every cloud and all that!

stephie definitely ask in charity shops. They usually get loads in as donations but generally don't display them. One of the charities local to me gets so many in, and other similar stuff, that they have a shop specifically for craft stuff

C2C is driving me mad - that is all

3 squares knitted to go with the ones already sent . I will crack on with some more .
I went to Gaelic knit and chat last night but found I can do one or the other but not both at the same time . Dis-arst-er !

Vittys I've just been trying c2c for the first time this evening. Tried two different free patterns but couldn't get them right. Then found a BellaCocoa YouTube video and I think it's now clicked. Have finished the increases on a 6" square and attempt the decreases tomorrow. Seeing the method really helped me and made much more sense.

That's the tutorial I used Thursday and I have had success! I preferred the decreasing as I struggle crocheting into a chain stitch.
