Angel Ted project for Yorkhill Hospital. Calling all knitters. Can you help us?

We were very pleased Yorkhill came to us for help with this project. It is certainly a sad one, and yet this is something very positive we can do to help families at this time.

The idea is to make two identical teddies for babies who pass away in Yorkhill's Special Care Baby Unit. The family can then give an Angel Ted to their baby and keep an identical one in their very precious keepsake box provided by the hospital.

Apologies to the hookers, at the moment we only have a pattern for Team Knit, but we will see if there is a crochet pattern to fit their requirements. Yorkhill ask that teddies are made in white or soft pastel shades of pink and blue to match the blankets and pillow sets that also go into the boxes.

Please use either
3ply wool with 2.5mm needles (14s)
4ply wool with 2.00mm needles (12s)

Construction
The pattern is on our website, see here...

Very kindly Ruby trialled this pattern and made the matching pair pictured. She used Sirdar snuggly 4ply and size 2mm needles. Huge thanks to her Thanks

If you prefer you can send teddies unstuffed and minus ribbons. We can do that, but PLEASE still sew up, just leave a hole and a long piece of wool to finish sewing after stuffing.

If you would like to join in but costs are prohibitive, please message us and we will try to help you. Equally if you aren't able to craft but would like to contribute we will happily accept donations to fund others. Thanks

Please PM us for posting information. The hope is to send the first Angel Teds with the next collection of Little Hugs, so last posting for that batch is to be FRIDAY 28th MARCH 2014. Thank you.

Heartfelt thanks to all for your support. Thanks

Aww lovely little teds!

Any news on a crochet pattern?

RatherBeOnThePiste · 29/03/2014 13:39

Not yet Anya, the woman came back from holiday on Tuesday and has probably been flat out, we thought we'd wait and chivvy them on Monday.

Morning :) Brew Brew Brew

PurpleFrog · 15/04/2014 12:57

Any news on the crochet pattern now that the Easter Sale has finished?
BTW - is the prototype crochet ted done in rounds, or flat?

I don't want to start another knitted pair if the crochet ones will avoid the ghastly sewing-up! Grin

KnottyLocks · 15/04/2014 21:33

Hello lovely.

Crochet Ted's are go.

They will be done flat like the knitted version, then stitched together.

The pattern is based on the one linked way back near the top of the thread, but with a couple of amendments; using 4ply , with a 3 mm hook.

Am bombed at the moment, but will aim to get a better version of the pattern done asap

PurpleFrog · 15/04/2014 23:06

OK - shame about the sewing up, but at least they will be quicker! Wink

I'll hang off starting knitted ones for now...

The crochet pattern for the Angel Teds is here.

Huge thanks to lovely Ninja for devising it, and to those who tested it for us. Thanks

Ninja has added it as a free download on Ravelry, see below, which you can access and download even if not on there. We have also added a link to the pattern on our website.

Next deadline for Angel Teds (and Little Hugs) to be Wednesday 1st October which is the same as for Angel Hugs, we know putting dates together helps folk.

If you would like to join in this project but need donated yarn to do so, please do message us. Thank you. Thanks

Ravelry link is here.........

and the link is also on our website page along with the pattern for knitters.....

Thank you everyone Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks

I have just popped a pair of Teds in the post. Sorry they are slightly late, but I couldn't motivate myself to sew them up until the deadline! Blush

I tried the crochet pattern, but, although it was quicker to do, the final teddies are very stiff compared to the knitted version. I'm not sure which version I will do next time.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 03/10/2014 08:10

Ah, interesting re the Teds, thank you so much for those, they will mean the world to a family xx

RatherBeOnThePiste · 03/10/2014 15:25
