Angel Ted project for Yorkhill Hospital. Calling all knitters. Can you help us?

We were very pleased Yorkhill came to us for help with this project. It is certainly a sad one, and yet this is something very positive we can do to help families at this time.

The idea is to make two identical teddies for babies who pass away in Yorkhill's Special Care Baby Unit. The family can then give an Angel Ted to their baby and keep an identical one in their very precious keepsake box provided by the hospital.

Apologies to the hookers, at the moment we only have a pattern for Team Knit, but we will see if there is a crochet pattern to fit their requirements. Yorkhill ask that teddies are made in white or soft pastel shades of pink and blue to match the blankets and pillow sets that also go into the boxes.

Please use either
3ply wool with 2.5mm needles (14s)
4ply wool with 2.00mm needles (12s)

Construction
The pattern is on our website, see here...

Very kindly Ruby trialled this pattern and made the matching pair pictured. She used Sirdar snuggly 4ply and size 2mm needles. Huge thanks to her Thanks

If you prefer you can send teddies unstuffed and minus ribbons. We can do that, but PLEASE still sew up, just leave a hole and a long piece of wool to finish sewing after stuffing.

If you would like to join in but costs are prohibitive, please message us and we will try to help you. Equally if you aren't able to craft but would like to contribute we will happily accept donations to fund others. Thanks

Please PM us for posting information. The hope is to send the first Angel Teds with the next collection of Little Hugs, so last posting for that batch is to be FRIDAY 28th MARCH 2014. Thank you.

Heartfelt thanks to all for your support. Thanks

RatherBeOnThePiste · 03/03/2014 19:22

Couldn't find the thread for a mo there, we seem to have a lot of projects going on.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 03/03/2014 19:23

Fab news Ninja, Knotty has nearly finished the prototype hooky ted, so hopefully we can sort this soon.

Thanks
RatherBeOnThePiste · 03/03/2014 19:24

We have a lovely donor to thank, such generosity really will make a big difference to us, and a crafter will make Angel Teds from you both.

TheNinjaGooseIsHooking · 04/03/2014 08:21

fab!! The 2mm needles are a killer for my hands Smile

ThePigOfHappiness · 04/03/2014 08:53

Hmmm I don't have enough blue to do another ted. I shall have to go and buy some (maybe white and pink too) and start again. One of the girls can have this one since I know they need to come in pairs. This shopping trip will be too secret due to moving, stash busting and ban on spending from dp Grin

ThePigOfHappiness · 04/03/2014 08:54

Or maybe ted might be part of the spring fling for MIND?

RatherBeOnThePiste · 04/03/2014 09:39

We'd love it Pig if you are sure?

Thanks
PurpleFrog · 04/03/2014 09:50

What make of yarn is your blue? Maybe someone will have some spare that you can use...

ThePigOfHappiness · 04/03/2014 13:52

Yes definitely if he's not too wobbly full of character?
I found the wool in a box in work with no band on it, have no clue what type it is, but snuggly :) but thank you for the offer. Excuse to go to my lys Shock

RatherBeOnThePiste · 04/03/2014 18:20

Awwwww, he sounds perfect :)

KnottyLocks · 05/03/2014 07:30

Will def be 4ply as tried a dk one too but too stiff.

ThePigOfHappiness · 06/03/2014 16:11

Pig, he's gorgeous!

I've started one - it's taking me ages, I'm such a slow knitter!

ThePigOfHappiness · 06/03/2014 17:30

Thanks Mh Blush
I have bought some lovely snugly sidar in pale pink and blue, will get going on an actual pair.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 06/03/2014 18:29

Awwww. Little Ted. Thanks

Thanks both. You stars. X

JulesJules · 06/03/2014 18:46

Fab ted Pig!

Mhw02 · 06/03/2014 21:19

First Ted finished, now perhaps in another week I can have the second one done! Ribbon may need retied, by the way - I have never mastered the art of tying bows. People have in the past actually laughed at my bow tying efforts!

ThePigOfHappiness · 07/03/2014 01:37

Mh how did you get Ted's ears like that? Think I need to find thicker ribbon too

ThePigOfHappiness · 07/03/2014 01:37

Because I am jealous of how nice your Ted looks, not just general musing!

Mhw02 · 07/03/2014 07:13

Haha, I was actually wondering if the ribbon I used was too thick and thinner might be better! You've got much more shape to the neck with yours.

For the ears on each side I just sewed along the top for about a centimetre, then from there down in a diagonal, front and back separately. I did each stitch down three rows and back up two rows so that I could pull it tight. Does that all make sense? Not sure I'm explaining it very well!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 07/03/2014 07:50

Oh just lovely, thanks Mhw

Your bow tying is smashing, what do they know??!!

HoggyTruffle · 07/03/2014 13:55

They are super teddies. Smile

I need a few bow tying lessons too. There must be a way to do it without being wonky.

KnottyAndPistey · 07/03/2014 15:21

In this mode now :)
