Angel Ted project for Yorkhill Hospital. Calling all knitters. Can you help us?

We were very pleased Yorkhill came to us for help with this project. It is certainly a sad one, and yet this is something very positive we can do to help families at this time.

The idea is to make two identical teddies for babies who pass away in Yorkhill's Special Care Baby Unit. The family can then give an Angel Ted to their baby and keep an identical one in their very precious keepsake box provided by the hospital.

Apologies to the hookers, at the moment we only have a pattern for Team Knit, but we will see if there is a crochet pattern to fit their requirements. Yorkhill ask that teddies are made in white or soft pastel shades of pink and blue to match the blankets and pillow sets that also go into the boxes.

Please use either
3ply wool with 2.5mm needles (14s)
4ply wool with 2.00mm needles (12s)

Construction
The pattern is on our website, see here...

Very kindly Ruby trialled this pattern and made the matching pair pictured. She used Sirdar snuggly 4ply and size 2mm needles. Huge thanks to her Thanks

If you prefer you can send teddies unstuffed and minus ribbons. We can do that, but PLEASE still sew up, just leave a hole and a long piece of wool to finish sewing after stuffing.

If you would like to join in but costs are prohibitive, please message us and we will try to help you. Equally if you aren't able to craft but would like to contribute we will happily accept donations to fund others. Thanks

Please PM us for posting information. The hope is to send the first Angel Teds with the next collection of Little Hugs, so last posting for that batch is to be FRIDAY 28th MARCH 2014. Thank you.

Heartfelt thanks to all for your support. Thanks

Marking my place :)

KnottyLocks · 25/02/2014 16:49

Here too.

TheNinjaGooseIsHooking · 25/02/2014 17:12

marking my place, not sure I'll manage the march deadline but if this is ongoing, I'm in. Any idea how much yarn to make 2 bears?

Pistey do you have an image of what the teds look like flag with dimensions? Does that make sense?
Can work out crochet that way?

ThePigOfHappiness · 25/02/2014 17:37

*flat

ThePigOfHappiness · 25/02/2014 17:39

What about this pattern? If done in 4ply and 2nm hook it would be lots smaller?

HoggyTruffle · 25/02/2014 17:43

I'll dig out my smaller needles and visit the LYS. Would one 50g ball do one or two teddies?

TheWoollybacksWife · 25/02/2014 17:44

Knotty and Pistey are those needle sizes the right way round? Or do you use thinner needles with the thicker yarn to get teddies of the same size, whatever yarn is used?

KnottyLocks · 25/02/2014 17:46

Just having a look, Piggy my lovely. The shape is certainly similar to the knit pattern.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 25/02/2014 17:49

Lovely Woolly Have copied their pattern exactly and that is what it says, have just double checked. I think that might be it - about sizing

JulesJules · 25/02/2014 17:49

I was wondering about the needle size/ply too, WW

RatherBeOnThePiste · 25/02/2014 17:50

Lovely Hoggy Ruby (lovely too obvs) said she thought you'd get three teds out of a 50g ball.

TheWoollybacksWife · 25/02/2014 17:51

Thanks for checking. I have both 4ply and 3ply in white so I shall give them a go. It will make a change to be doing something other than my DK project which is taking ages.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 25/02/2014 17:51

Ah that's for lovely Ninja too :)

RatherBeOnThePiste · 25/02/2014 17:53

This is where the pattern originates from We were just sent a photocopy of that.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 25/02/2014 17:57

The ted is 15cm tall, and across the arms is 14cm.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 25/02/2014 17:57

Thanks everyone, you are all stars Thanks

JulesJules · 25/02/2014 18:01

Ah, sizing!

Do ribbons have to be same colour as the bear?

RatherBeOnThePiste · 25/02/2014 18:05

Hello Jules :)

That's not specified, it just says tie a bow round the bear's neck. The key is to make a matching pair, so I would say as long as they match each other, all is well.

I was thinking about buying some white to use for those who need, but only because it would go with every bear.

MNPinto2014 · 25/02/2014 18:31

Hoping for a hooking pattern soon.

TheNinjaGooseIsHooking · 25/02/2014 18:46

RatherBeOnThePiste · 25/02/2014 18:49

We have a lovely donor to thank, huge thanks for joining with us and for your support, bless your heart. We will send resources to a crafter who will make Angel Teds to send to families from you both.

Thanks KristinaM
