I am afraid we bring very sad news. We heard recently that our SupermansBigRedBottleOfSpirits’ third child, beautiful baby Summer has died at nearly twelve weeks of age. Bless them all, such a devastating loss, we are so very sorry. Superman’s thread is here.

She and her family are in our hearts and thoughts, and we send them love. We are so pleased that they have accepted our offer of a Woolly Hug, there will be love for them all in every stitch. We hope it may give whatever comfort it can.

So lovely donors, knitters and crocheters, we will need help to make this happen, and will be so grateful if you can join with us. Thanks

All crafting abilities genuinely welcome, squares made by beginner or expert are equally welcomed. It really is the love and thought that counts.

Thanks

Superman and her family have been thinking about their blanket and have come up with some lovely ideas for baby Summer. Bless them all.

Ideas for squares or separate embellishments :

Summery flowers - inc chrysanthemums
Butterflies.
Ladybirds
Lions

If you are able to offer initials, please PM.

Just from the brands listed below please because we know they combine for wash and wear.

  • Drops Merino Extra Fine DK (new this time)
  • Jenny Watson Pure Merino DK (new this time)
  • Debbie Bliss Rialto DK
  • Sublime Extra Fine Merino Wool DK ?* Artesano Superwash Merino DK
  • Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK (is being discontinued but some still around)
  • James Brett Pure Merino DK (also being discontinued but some still around)

Superman’s family have requested bright and vibrant colours as they say these best reflect their beautiful daughter so....

  • Pinks (not pale)
  • Warm purples
  • Brighter greens
  • Creams - if using please use Jenny Watson Pure Merino DK WM4 ‘cream’ or Debbie Bliss Rialto 02 ‘ecru’

For accents/embellishments on squares, not whole squares pls :

  • Red but please only use Jenny Watson Pure Merino DK WM06 “Ruby”
  • Yellow for flower centres only
  • Turquoise.

?Do use the crafting guide on the website to help you with lots of practical info such as help with buying colours, recommended online retailers and if interested there are a lot of linked suggestions for patterns.

Previous blankets can be seen on the Woolly Hugs website and we are on Facebook and Twitter at MNWoollyHugs which are good ways to keep in touch.

This means so much to the family, thank you so much for joining with us

Thanks

Pistey and Knotty

That was speedy work by the post office!

Let me know if there's anything else I can do. x

JollySeriousGiant · 05/12/2013 11:11

Gorgeous lime green woolly wool arrived this morning. I shall get going tonight :)

Kveta · 05/12/2013 11:52

0ooooh!!

I have just found a ball of Sublime extra fine merino wool DK, in shade 0229 (blueberry pie?), in the depths of my stash - it's a slightly darker purple than the clematis Jenny Watson I was sent. Could I use it for a square then?! It has been sitting there looking pretty for months, and I wasn't sure what to do with it!

roguepixie · 05/12/2013 11:54

What devastating news. I am so very sorry for their terrible loss.

I'll do some squares.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 05/12/2013 12:24

Thanks everyone Thanks

We have another lovely donor to thank, just marvellous, you really do make the difference, we [heart] the donors!

Thanks twofalls

I posted my parcel this lunchtime second class (stingy Wink) but it might get there tomorrow anyway. Forgot to put my name in though, but there are two crocheted squares and done left overs, many thanks to my donor for the wool, it was a lovely claret red :)

KnottyLocks · 06/12/2013 16:18

Thank you Smile

Second class makes sense! Postage is hideous at the moment.

Dutchoma · 06/12/2013 16:41

But I sent mine first class last week and it still hasn't come [wail]

RatherBeOnThePiste · 06/12/2013 17:47

Have finished two squares, will post them tomorrow. I have used Rialto in claret for a flower in the centre of one of them - is this okay? I bought it thinking it was a deep, bright, pink, but I'm worried it's a bit too red.

Dutchoma · 06/12/2013 19:22

There's only one. If it isn't there tomorrow I will do you another one.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 09/12/2013 08:21

Morning Brew

Lovely Oma, maybe wait a couple of more days? And lovely MHw02, sounds lovely, send it! X

I haven't forgotten about this, honest :)

TwoJackRussellsandababy · 10/12/2013 11:12

Yay, the plum/claret colours were mine, hope they come in useful

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 10/12/2013 13:39

Two squares on their way now, Pistey - one burgundy, with a cream flower, and one cream with a pale blue flower.

I'm going to make some more, with the donor wool you sent me, and I will have them set aside for the sad point when more are needed.

BellaVita · 10/12/2013 21:29

I am on my third square.

Two are in the gorgeous purple colour that Pistey recommended and my third is the Debbie Bliss ecru. Whilst out in town on Sunday, I found a little independent wool shop, they only had the above, but it was better than coming away with nothing. I am aiming to post them out early next week.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 10/12/2013 21:53

Thank you everyone, you are just marvellous Thanks

And TwoJacks - they are beautiful, thank you Thanks

I have some squares ready for pesky end sewing, just have to find where I put needles in the epic pre-Christmas clean up!
