Woolly Hugs' Knitted Knockers!

This is a small project to help our friends out at the Octavia Appeal and the Royal Brompton Hospital.
We have been asked by the Octavia Appeal to help make some Knitted Knockers for the Breastfeeding and Expressing team at the Royal Brompton Hospital.

Babies born with heart conditions often find breastfeeding more difficult as they do not have the energy required for it. With so many newborn babies being transferred to the Brompton, it is vital that they help support mothers with this.

Knitted Knockers help the teams teach mothers how to express and also about latching.

So, can you help us?

The knitting pattern is here on our Woolly Hugs' site

The lovely Rubycon has tested it for us and says that it takes approximately 50g (one ball) of yarn plus a little bit for the nipple.

We're suggesting any DK wool that can be machine washed.
The hospital are happy to accept any colours of your choice.

We have a small amount of donor wool available.
PM Pistey if you need donor wool and we'll get some sent to you.

Please send your Knockers flat and Pistey will happily stuff them. Smile

We could do with a handful. Grin

As ever, many thanks. Bless you... and your knockers. Thanks

I've finished the top part, just working on the base. My brother has a new facebook profile picture wearing it as a hat Hmm

droitwichmummy · 09/01/2013 23:03

No knockers here tonight, I've been stuffing mushrooms!

ThePigOfHappiness · 09/01/2013 23:34

Started mine tonight. Slight customisation to the pattern but sure boobs are sisters not twins :o

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 10/01/2013 02:37

I had to frog mine back 10 rows because I'd somehow picked up an extra stitch. It's coming out rather large - is it meant to Grin Confused Blush?

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 10/01/2013 03:18

My knocker is now flashing away on Ravelry droitwich Wink

Grin @ hats and mushrooms

Size wise, well we all come in different shapes and sizes, so it's all good I'm thinking.

PurpleKittyKnitting · 10/01/2013 06:38

I have found some white and pink! Will take it to work to knit on breaks!! I nearly always get asked what I am kntting, will be fun!!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 10/01/2013 06:43

You going on the bus today PKK? Start there, just a thought. Smile

And thank you ThanksThanks

PurpleKittyKnitting · 10/01/2013 06:50

I have only occasionally knitted on the bus, I am always afraid of the bus stopping and stabbing myself with a needle!

Not sure it will be done for the deadline but I will do my best, need to get some stuffing!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 10/01/2013 06:59

Lovely PKK - I have stuffing here, I had to buy a huge bag for something very tiny when we did the Christmas project. So send flat, I will stuff your knocker here, cheaper on postage too. And if you miss the deadline, no worries we can take it along another time.

Thanks
PurpleKittyKnitting · 10/01/2013 07:02

Oooo ta! Do you just want the unstuffed knocker then by 31 Jan? Should be able to get at least one done! Perhaps a novelty coloured one!! Grin

RatherBeOnThePiste · 10/01/2013 07:07

YY PKK

Smile

Unstuffed knockers are the way to go, we're looking at a deadline towards the end of January. Will confirm asap.

PurpleKittyKnitting · 10/01/2013 07:11

Magic, I have done 4 rows so far! I will text my mum, see if I can dictate the pattern to her as I won't be seeing her for until next Sunday now

HaveToWearHeels · 10/01/2013 15:23

I think I might give this one a miss for now, although this thread has made me laugh out loud today.
Have been looking through Ravelry for patterns for Lemontruflles and look what I found
www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/felt-cervix
maybe we could knit all the female anatomy lol

Mandy2003 · 10/01/2013 15:33

Whittington Hospital Highgate had the Knitted Uterus and Cervix in their AnteNatal classes Grin Sorry I can't help with this one (can't knit and no wool shop).

PurpleKittyKnitting · 10/01/2013 16:57

My nork has now grown! When I pick it up tonight, I will be changing colour!

KnottyLocks · 10/01/2013 17:31

My knitted nork is at the areola stage! Grin

I will phone my mum later to give her the pattern.

I went in to work today announcing to my colleagues that I am knitting a knocker!

PurpleKittyKnitting · 10/01/2013 20:15

Do you want a long end left for sewing on the base?

RatherBeOnThePiste · 10/01/2013 20:34

Um, yes, I think so. I have never sewn up someone's knocker before Grin

PurpleKittyKnitting · 10/01/2013 20:38

OK! I am working on the base bit just now, I have uploaded a photo for you on fb!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 10/01/2013 20:58

Just seen, smashing knocker PKK Smile
